Wouldn't be the Tour of Qatar without a windy stage to make things interesting. I'm just happy that Dillier made the lead group!

At least Ford is a reliable force... Poor TT from Durbridge though: no GC result and U25 ranking given away. Instead, Li delivered, not yet a GC threat.
Overall a shocking bad race from Goss and Durbridge.. Ford, Ma and Ligthart doing fine. Well, season is opening really poor, what else can I say?
Thanks for the quality reports! Enjoyable read if Oz had delivered in a way

That's actually an amazing finish for Yatsevich. Second in the stage and also winning the Youth rankings. A bit of a shame he gets the lower end of the shared 9th place, but 10th overall is still great!
Viviani with a more or less disappointing TT though. He was my highest finisher in every stage, so he looked strong, but did kinda disappoint in the TT.
Thanks for the reports, The Rider. Although flat stages aren't really my thing, i still enjoyed reading them!
Still also interested in how the GC would look with the old bonification system. I guess Van Stayen & Lo Cicero would be out of it, but besides that, it doesn't look like the that much difference.

Suprised to see Van Stayen lose as much as 39 seconds on 3,5 kilometers despite having a bad prologue stat. Also annoying that he would have gotten 6th had he gone two seconds faster.
Oh well, didn't get a whole lot of points from this race, but I guess it could have been worse as well!
Thanks for the reports and congrats to SN for the GC win!

Had honestly hoped for a bit more by Keizer here.
But I take 12th as also a good and actually better than expected result by Schädlich here.
Finally a decent stage for my team after all those sprint results.
Congrats to SN for the close battle. Still good 2nd for Bewley. Then again this sprint train should have done more I feel. Same for Pokerstars. At least top 3 on the podium.
And as said, the chrono riders will go similar strong as last year no matter the bonifications.
Well written The Rider. |

35th place overall was admittedly less than I hoped for before the race, Kristoff's epilogue wasn't great, loosing seven seconds to Holst Enger, who is only slightly better, but we were never going to get the big points here anyway.
In terms of point scoring, it has been a bad start to the season for us, but so it was last year, which only makes me look more forward to the coming races
Congratulations to SN, a brilliant start in the hunt for the title. SotD must also be satisfied with Coppel's win and sixth overall. The points are coming for the big teams with also Becherovka scoring well.
Thanks for all the reports, The Rider!

Zabel really can't TT... Sucks for this race, but atleast he got a podium, not all of the sprinters here can say that.

We came for a stagewin and a GC top 10, so I guess we can write off the race as a success, as also Tzortzakis scored 40 points or so, with Coquard, and Vlatos also scoring a bit. Bernaudeau and Paillot was poor on the final TT though.
I managed to limit the pointsloss to Vesuvio and Becherovka the Best possible.

Awesome 5th place Dillier! 15th in the GC is excellent for us as well.

Very deserving podium-wieners here. Fancied Pokerstars before the race with their to-headet monster leaders and what they previously have done here. But Bewley and Swift proved to be a notch above the rest here and a very deserved 1-2 for them in the end. Also a good ending for Festina as Coppel were the only TT-ist in the top 10, if I'm not mistaken. Kinda expected Oz to score a bit more in the end aswell, with that awful TT-setup.
Dont usually enjoy flat stages as much, but Qatar is always a quality race!

Yeah very disappointing chrono from Fab, he was teed up pretty well for that hit out but he fell very flat.
The margins are minute but I really was hopeful he would have crept in top 10 there. Early hopes of Vesuvio making a hash are dashed the old Schleck is still strong and Swift wins Qatar, already the volcano is spewing out the red stuff.
Quite a good result for Oz cycling too, pleased about that. Jim Bowen take big lead of ice cream boys also in other big PT battle.

Great to see plenty of people enjoying the racing.
The race really needed that windy stage 5, after those predictable sprint finishes.
Plenty of teams won't be taking too many points away from the race but, I have to say I don't think I have ever seen a team as anonymous in a stage race as Tinkoff was in this one, sorry Oleg! Had to check the rankings after stage 5 to make sure they were still here! |
