I agree with most of this... except the part about Perriero. I think most people won't remember him as the tour winner. They'll remember Landis winning and getting stripped... but they'll have a lot of trouble coming up with Perreiro's name. Kind of unfair to the guy, but it is what it is. Not crossing the line in Paris wearing yellow takes a lot away.
So much so that you can't even spell his name right. This is not a jab at you, it's my point about his lack of notoriety.

They remember things that happen during the Tour, not months before.
And does Bruyneel saying "we changed the team structure" and how much Astana has changed remind you of a certain team last year that had some people caught doping...

Good...
He's a young and talented ridder and it would be a shame for him to spend a year without racing...

As with Davis, reputation played a big part in finding a team. Teams are running from any riders named in Puerto like they have the plague. I can't remember it being late march and riders still looking for teams in any other season.

He was so desperate he actually thought of accepting an offer Barbot-Siper made him a month ago...

that's really quite desperate for a guy who did so well at the Vuelta last year. Barbot sucks.

Changed it a little...
But I don't think that a move to Caisse is a good idea seeing as how the season plans have already been made... I don't how many races he will in fact race in a team like Caisse...

I find it strange that they invite the same teams to both Paris Roubaix and the hilly classics. I mean does Topsport Vlaanderen have any good hilly riders? Or have I've got it all wrong.
From cyclingnews.com
ASO names teams for Classics
The Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO) announced the teams for the upcoming Spring Classics Paris-Roubaix, La Fléche Wallonne and Liège - Bastogne - Liège, and as expected the list does not include Astana. The team of the 2007 Tour de France winner Alberto Contador was disinvited to all of the ASO's events in February, and it was recently announced that this would indeed extend to the Tour de France.
All 17 of the other ProTour teams made the cut on the list of 25 teams.
Professional Continental teams Slipstream, Skil-Shimano, Barloworld, Agritubel, Tinkoff Credit Systems, Topsport Vlaanderen, Landbouwkrediet - Tönissteiner and the Cycle Collstrop team, formerly known as Unibet.com round out the squads for the Classics. Notably absent was the Mitsubishi-Jartazi team of Frank Vandenbroucke and Allan Davis.
Teams: AG2R La Mondiale, Agritubel, Barloworld, Bouygues Telecom, Caisse d'Epargne, Cofidis, Crédit Agricole, Cycle Collstrop, Euskaltel-Euskadi, Française des Jeux, Gerolsteiner, Team High Road, Lampre, Landbouwkrediet - Tönissteiner, Liquigas, Quick Step, Rabobank, Saunier Duval-Scott, Skil-Shimano, Slipstream-Chipotle, Silence-Lotto, Team CSC, Team Milram, Tinkoff Credit Systems, Topsport Vlaanderen.

Di Luca has reacted to the "exclusion" of his team by saying that he will take revenge by winning Tour de France...
(right .. keep in mind that you're banned from cycling for two years at that time - and that your team isn't invited )

Bettini won't be riding on the cobbles. I guess that's the end of his dream of winning de Ronde one day.
also, check this lovely bit by cyclingnews:
Spaniard Juan Manuel Garate, who wore the white young rider's jersey twice during last year's Giro

Valentino Fois, former Mercatone Uno-guy, has died from a coronary, probably due to all the dope he took. |

To be honest, it sounds exactly like all the sportsmen in all sports that die every year of a coronary. Meaning: yes, quite like Pantani.
Most likely from all the dope.
Just the other day I heard a rumour (albeit unconfirmed) that Bugno had a heart attack. another one. If that's true it was, what? the eight or so?
There's a reason drugs are banned.

Hey don't get me wrong, I think it is rampant in all sports. And I love cycling too much to contiously beat it up!!
It was a bit tongue in cheek because he actually rode with Pantani on Mercatore-Uno.
As an American let me say this" It pisses me off that in America the only (almost only) time Cycling makes news or is covered my mainstream media is for the wrong reasons" . Baseball, Football ( American Version and the Real One) never take the same hit. Even with the Mitchell Report on Baseball, it was news for a day and seemingly forgotten now. :x |
