@All - Great news! After talking with Jesleyh a little and playing around with the DB, I have successfully edited the database so that the 18 major teams will only be participating in the races that I have on the schedule. This will make the season go much smoother.
With that being said, I have just finished the first stage of Qatar, and you can all 100% expect a report later today, and the story should no longer encounter any delays.
Jesleyh, you might not think that you helped much, but you helped me fix the database, so thank you

Tour of Qatar Stage 1 2.1 - Again?
I didn't like it here. As a director, flat races are one of my biggest pet peeves. There is nothing interesting. We were already having enough troubles getting people to come to our races, you saw the pictures! The riders would be looking at nothing but sand the whole day.
Being a flat race, there no clear cut favorites to come out with the win. Your guess was just as good as ours. There were competitors here who raced just a few weeks ago, and already had that experience edge on the new but probably more talented guys.
Bunzl was confident, hell, they brought a very close roster to what they had just a few weeks ago. Christer wasn't a contender anymore, at least nobody thought. Teams were finally settling down a bit because the season finally started. It was easy to see that the environment was more calm with the team captains riding in this race, at least most of them.
Well, I don't want to leave a disappointing race, so I hope that there is some good action that will be interesting to viewers all over the world. But I promise, it will get more interesting later in the year!
-~-~-~-~-~
I hope the riders got a good view of that water, because they wouldn't be seeing any besides what they were drinking for awhile.
At the beginning of the race all was calm. There was a 9 rider break that only lasted a few KM's. The pace was actually so fast the first part that a number of riders dropped off of the back. They would eventually catch up though.
It was eventually that Jacky Durand went out on his own. Yes, he attacked, and yes, nobody followed him. He got out to a 2:00 advantage with 100km to go. The peleton stopped caring soon enough and Jacky Durand was on his way.
Spotify and Bunzl were advancing to the front of the group now to do pacing. At one point it was Blueprint and Christer out front, memories of just a few weeks ago!
Jacky Durand kept pulling away, out to a 4:00 lead with 70KM to go. Subway and Citigroup stepped up the pacing from the peleton who was finally catching the break.
Wait a minute! Firefly21 of Citigroup has launched an attack, and boy was it a fast one. I think he drained all of his energy, but he got 2:00 away from the main field and up to Jacky Durand after a few KM's.
In the winding stages of the race, it was a 2 rider break with a frantic peleton trying ti catch up. There was a big sprint for that last point in the sprint, and it was baseballlover312 getting the win. With 25km to go there is only a 1:00 gap.
What happens next is confusing to tell, but I am going to try my best. Somehow the significant speed of the peleton split the main field into 3 different groups. The lead pack had 32 riders, followed by a pack of 55 riders, and then the rest. FireFly21 was quickly reeled in and there was just 5Km left.
The flat surface didn't tire Jacky Durand though, who somehow stayed away to win the stage. The sprint for 2nd was so close, and you can find the complete results below

Could Jacky Durand have just won this race after 1 stage? He performed like that could be the case. The only thing he has to do is guard the jersey now. What a turn of events this would be if the result holds true.

Wow, very stupid to let a breakaway guy win a stage in a pan-flat stage race, especially so if you take 2nd and 3rd in the bunch
Though, both in group 1 so everything to gain besides yellow from now on, can't really complain overall

Bunzl disintegrated but as we all know, it's not the taking part that counts, it's beating issoisso. Go me.

Breakaway bug still confirmed

I think our team worked hard enough. Looking at the result, people were exhausted, else I could not have out-sprinted everybody.
But I am happy with the result, 2 + 3 in the overall and leader in the team ranking is not bad after all. |

@Lachi - Yes, the group was going very fast at the end which is why everyone got split up and it come down to most energy instead of fastest speed-wise

Tour of Qatar Stage 2 2.2 - Hot Cycling
There was no denying the annoying conditions in Qatar. The riders from America went from 20 degree weather to 95 degree weather, and it was a rough adjust. This was true to many of the teams who were not used to training in weather that was so hot. I thought I felt bad in Australia, but I couldn't even stand being in the car here it was that bad.
In the race itself, Celesio knew that the race was about over as it had just started. A huge mistake by the peleton allowed Jacky Durand to get over a minutes advantage, which was surely enough. The same rider winning every stage would not get them enough bonus seconds to catch up, as long as Celesio was protecting Jacky Durand.
Now of course, that didn't mean that the other riders and teams were done. They could still show they were TRULY the best sprinters, and get 2nd place and be a TRUE winner, knowing that the break staying away was a fluke. Regardless, the riders had to concentrate on not passing out, and getting more fit as the season progressed.
-~-~-~-~-~
The start was literally in the middle of nowhere today, I wonder how the organizers I've hired figure out this stuff? Anyways, as stated earlier, the main goal was by Celesio and that was to keep Jacky Durand safe, they knew there would be breaks, they just had to contain them.
Shades of yesterday from the start, as there were many break attempts with most of them failing and just increasing the pace of the main field. The pace of the main field was so fast at the start again that we saw riders dropping off again, but that also could be due to the heat.
There were no breaks, there was no team at the front. Random riders were just spread all over the field, even Jacky Durand the leader was somewhere in the middle alone. Spotify was the first team to attempt to get organized.
Finally, a break that gets away. Its juszta and Karl_rab that go alone. They get a 2:00 lead at 85km to go which sticks up to 75km to go, and then expanded up to 2:45 with 65km to go. They were slowly puling away from the field, getting the main field nervous again.
Looks like Celesio had finally moved to the front. A 3:00 lead with 60km was as far as it got. The speed of the peleton was the fastest I had seen in a very long time, and the heat combines was draining the energy of these riders. The peleton was so spread out that there was almost a 2 minute span of riders that all had the same time!
At last, they were captured. Rabobank & Subway are up front getting organized for the big sprint. Celesio was content, they would hang on to the leaders jersey another day.
The favorites were still in it, right up in the front. With 5km to go there was a nice organization of sprint trains along the front of the race. The sprint started with a launch by baseballlover312, Who was about 300meters from the finish and up front. What he didn't know was that Guido Mukk started right behind him, and apparently had more in the tank, as he passed baseballlover312 and stayed out front to get his first stage win of the season.
Riders were exhausted, they really were. We got as many of them as we could into a colder environment, and they will need to rest up before getting right back at it again tomorrow.

It was a successful day for the peleton, who was struggling to catch the break as of late. I am not saying they are perfect yet, because they wait until the last possible minute and then ride very fast to catch up instead of gradually doing it. Also, Celesio looks to be in good shape if they can continue to do this for the rest of the race.

Nice win for Guido Mukk, but Subway must feel bad
Lachi 4th is a surprise, and I'm not sure what our(Rabobank) leadout was doing, really, with fcancellara finishing ahead of MitchNL.
Also I'm glad that the break was captured, a season full of winning breaks would make a bad story I guess
Edit:
Just looked at the calendar:
You're confusing the great NL flag with the dull Luxembourgian!

I am not surprised about my performances. I always give everything until the finish line.
But I have to question the performance of Jacky Durand from yesterday. What substances did he use to stay upfront a chasing peloton?

The PCM Cycling League currently has no reason to believe any of our riders are using performance enhancing substances, but we will definitely look into the situation if any kind of red flag rises.
