Porte could be a treat too. Not a fan at all, but this climb (actually hill) shouldnt suit him well, but he was up there....

Contador doesn't look stronger than Nibali atm. Contador should win more than 3 seconds on a climb like today.

Someone should make the Stage 9 thread. Also, in the past people would make the next days stage thread moments after the current days stage ended. Now you are lucky if theres a thread made before the actual stage even starts...

Times are changing Sad

Definitely seems quieter here Sad

He's quite good on hills too. See TDU and 13' Pais Vasco results among others.

Contador was not going full power at finish. Short steep hill climb is neither Nibali nor Contador's speciality, we will see more in mountains.

Yeah, you are right... Paris-Nice too. I forget that results.. but still he is better on a the longer mountains.. I'm afraid, cuz it would be awful seeing Porte winning. I hope for Nibali, or Valv (but he looks bad, at least today).... Oh, well.. please, anyone but Porte and Contador...

Whatever your reasons for hating Porte might be. It will be difficult for him to get podium let alone winning TdF. Porte is good in mountains but on 2nd and 3rd day in mountains he suffers a lot and that is where I think Valverde and Van den Broeck will come back at him.

We have to consider that he has always ridden for others at sky. So we have not seen his best in Grand tour till now. His best was I think 7th in Giro 2010, but in that race he got 30 min in a breakaway stage. So we will see.

Not really, today wasn't a big mountain stage.

The climb was way to short and it was actually a bit surprising that Nibali didn't sit with Contador right to the end.

But unfortunately stage 5´s time gaps are so great that a few seconds isn't that big of a deal.

lol 50%... it surely was more than that. Wink

But anyway, today was to select maybe pretenders from the real contenders. Real fun starts on monday. Hoping for an epic breakaway stage on sunday as little intermezzo. Smile

Ok 50% was exaggerated  but still he wasnt giving his all he just wanted to see where he is with his form so he knows his limit when he actually attacks

Yep, not that much controversy in the tour left after Froome left.

But the site is still busy after all Fatigued got 400+ votes to win the eurosport competition from the site Wink

Mollema not too good Sad. Peraud surprisingly strong, and Bardet and Pinot too. Contie and Nibali as expected. And ofcourse Sky have a replacement leader as if it is normal Pfft.

I doubt that was all from us. He's on a couple PCM sites and has a pretty good youtube following.

In the past, stages like this would have reached probably 20 or 30 pages. I mean, there was 40km left and we were still only on Page 2 today.

Way - I see it- Bertie did not want to go all in on a stake as low (short climb = little time to gain). He won't go all in unless the stake is worth it. He simply raised to check if Nibbles will call. He didn't.

If Porte ever wins a GC it won't be case of "porte might be looking deep into something" it will be "Porte is 100% eating some biiiiig steaks"

Oh, you mean the guy who has supposed to ride Giro and was speculated to finish at least podium there? Sure, yeah, that guy came way out of nowhere... Because teams arn't allowed to have more than one GC contender. Cool

Porte is a rider that gets 7th in the Giro after earning a huge lead in a break and wearing the maglia rosa. Arroya finishes 2nd. That's Richie Porte failing to prove his touted potential. Next year he is one of the biggest flops in the Tour for Saxo Bank before he joins SKY.

Suddenly Porte is superman in the SKY-train.

I'm going to blame the world cup Pfft. Although I have also been busier this year than I was last year. Though if stage coverage is getting a bit "slack" I might have to force a comeback in to my schedule.

If that was only an entree I look forwards to the main dish. Although the wait for the final 27 kilometres sure was dragging on there for a bit.
