A new thought: Do you think that some of the riders (Contador, Klödi, Leipheimer) would consider a loan-move to another team? Isn't that possible? I remember something similar happened a few years ago. |

And another thing.. No one really mentioned who had been selected for Paris Nice:
All PT-teams except for Astana, and Slipstream + Skil Shimano. |

That was my first thought also...specialy with Contador and Leipheimer. But if ASO doesnt want to see Contador in TdF they make something up.. (last season and Unibet) |

and Klöden surely wants to ride the tour, it has to be his season goal.

Yeah. I have a feeling that ASO only has something against Astana, not necessarily the riders, so maybe it's possible - unfortunately. |

I wish that were true, but really they would just focus on their own agenda. it would be an improvement on the current situation though

plus Agritubel. and about the loan thing, I hope it doesn't happen. I really don't want those guys at the Tour.

I'm not sure what you're getting at? Are you saying you think these riders will be aiming for the Vuelta?

Wow....
I wonder if they're even going to bother showing the TDF on Versus this year without a single US rider participating with a shot at the GC. There's not going to be a whole lot of viewership over here I think.
To be honest I think the decision is extremely dumb. You have a team with three of the top riders, two of the top 3 from the previous TDF, none of which are serving any drug suspensions. And you keep them out... because that will make the event better.
I know people have suspicians... hell I personally think anyone who's finished in the top 5 of a grand tour the last 15 years was doped to the gills in some way. But if there havent' been positive tests... you're essentially keeping a group of the best riders out of the biggest race... for no legitimate reason.
I don't know how much pull the American stations who televise the TDF have... but I'm betting they're screaming their heads off at the TDF to get the only American with a shot back in the race somehow. They've already paid for the rights and they're getting screwed quite a bit now.
While it may not matter to the ASO... a large quantity of people in the US who watched the TDF during Armstrongs run will simply stop if an American with a shot isn't in the race. |

For the sport's sake you just can't keep on having all these "potential" dopers in the Tour. At some point, they will be caught - especially with the latest's years intensivement of the doping chase. Can you imagine the frontpages of all large newspapers around Europe and the US when Contador is caught? Last year's winer... Another huge blow to the sport.
Therefore, it's better just to exclude those who are most likely to be caught. Besides, if Leipheimer is clean he wouldn't mind riding for Slipstream |

I don't like what you are insinuating CrueTrue. Levi has always raced clean. If he doped prove it.

Now the more pressing Question. Who will be riding the tour with a chance to win? Who is left if you take Kloden, Levi, and Contador out? Cadel and a bunch of SPANISH riders. This years Tour is going to suck balls. No competitors.

Even if Astana do ride the tour, Id be skeptical about them doing well. They came into the 07 tour with supposedly the strongest team of Vino, Kloden, Kashechkin, and Savoldelli but they doped, got injured and didnt do too well. I wouldnt be surprised if the same ended up happening again in 08 if they were to ride.

the Field is still going to suck balls. It will still be filled with teams that have pasts steeped in doping: Quckstep, CSC, High Road, Caisse D'Epargne etc. What makes Astana any different? Are cofidis out? Rabobank? The french fuckers at the ASO are, as usual, inconsistent.

Trust me, for the informed viewer in the U.S they will enjoy Slipstream''s attacking, and strong showings in the TT's. With no time bonuses Millar or Dave Z have a chance at Yellow after the 1st TT. Look for Danny Pate to be one of the most combative riders . Evans has to be the favorite IMO, but it should be an interesting race. I'd like to see Barloworld in, and they probably will be. Agritubel is the only non PT French team that should be in there thoguh.

Menchov. I'm pretty sure this new change in training programme will finally let him keep his form throughout the Tour

Statistically, and from a physiological point of view, Leipheimer, like his Astana fellow leaders (Klöden, Contador, Savoldelli), and some more riders, are likely doped riders.
That doesn't mean to be a proofs, but strong indications nonetheless. |
