Some good selections and good to Jack Haig in there, not sure on his current form but you will see him riding WT in a few seasons.
Cool to see Haig and Van der Ploeg here! Haig not in best shapejudging from his results in the Nats, but yes, he will be the next big thing from Down Under Also looking forward to what O'Brien will do. Looked pretty back to old strength in the NCs and i also stumbled across nice Interview, in which he expressed his feelings about not being signed by Drapac. Wants to make them regret this ignorance
I can seriously see Caleb winning something at the TDU this year. Maybe the classic? That would be nice...
When you can't decide between two options, flip a coin. Not because the result of the coin will choose for you, but because, in that split second before the coin lands, you'll know what side you want it to fall on.

It depends on what sort of legs Kittel and Greipel have. There's no way he is ready to take them on yet. His advantage might come from being more used to the weather than others. Adelaide was the hottest city in the world yesterday and is currently in the middle of a heat wave. While that is expected to mostly be over by the time the race starts it will still affect rider preparation.

I'm really disapointed that MTN didn't get the Giro, they had a massive push for it on twitter, but I guess Colombia are probably the better team.
Also RCS has been very generous with invites to them so I can't complain too much.
I guess there is still the chance of the Vuelta, given how few Spanish teams there are this year.
To be honest, i am happy that something like twitter push is not something that decides the wildcards. No offence to MTN
Btw. i doubt they will have Tour wildcard too,as i think that IAM and NetApp will have better chance+ some french teams? But there is spot that was going to be Europcars, before they went to WT.

Word here is that it's this year or never for Bretagne to get a TDF spot, and they're really confident they'll get it.
Yet, they're far from having the quality from a sportive viewpoint, so, besides the exposure, I'm not sure what good it'd do them. |

On MTN not getting the Giro spot.
There was something about the organizers or something wanting to give Italian teams the wildcard spots, like in the Tour de France, so only one foreign team, Colombia, got the remaining wildcard.
And MTN still wants to be in one of the Grand Tours this year.

Great news that Ballan wasn't backdated. I have a lot of respect for CONI (who I assume put the sentence down)

I am half expecting an appeal to CAS because of the "ozone" not strictly being blood doping as such. At least in the same way UV treatment (Kittel) isn't and has been "allowed".
Also it will lead to a new/change in the WADA code about blood treating. Which could cause some issues for other riders/team using the exploit

Sooo... the Ballan-story, expected or the proverbial bombshell? Anyways, I'm so glad it's not backdated.

You would think a wildcard to the Tour would lead to sponsorship dollars for Bretange and with that they might be be more attractive to riders come transfer time. I would like to see MTN at the Tour but surely that wildcard will go to Bretagne. MTN have a good chance at picking up a Vuelta wildcard.
Good to see CONI showing some teeth when it came to Ballan

I really hope MTN-Qhubeka will get that wildcard. It's cool to see them ride, and you all saw Milan-San Remo last year where Ciolek won. They recieved a wildcard for the classic and used the opportunity to perfection. That just proves, that they can take the chances when they get them.
So I really think they should have the chance. |

I dont see a wildcard team being successful in the Tour, maybe if they get a succesful break but no other way.

You could easily say the same for 15 of the regular teams.... IAM should provide something decent or at least aggressive. Cofidis will do their usual. Bretagne would only be good for some attacking yes, but being in the Tour would be a massive boost for the team. It would allow them to attract a whole new class of rider in the future as well as sponsorship. MTN would also only be good for some attacking. Ciolek is ok for some Top10's but frankly his MSR was a fluke and outside of him they're no better than most Pro Conti teams
And in terms of MTN being unique for being African, it's not strictly new to Le Tour. Firstly it depends how you class Barloworld, but also there were African teams in the days of National teams...

Thing is Sojasun was a much more solid team, albeit with sponsoring issues. They got to ride the Tour and got results in Pro Conti races that far outclassed Bretagne. Yet it didn't bring them more sponsors and better riders. They folded. And didn't show so much during Le Tour.
So, the point of Bretagne riding the Tour hardly makes sense to me. Not that MTN is a team I'm too fond of either. |

The fact that they are African shouldn't make a difference to their wildcard chance, it should be based upon the quality of the team and whether the race will be on home soil for the team.

Well there is something to be said for the symbolism of what it means to a globalising sport.
