IG have pulled out of all cycling sponsorship, so Team IG-Sigma Sport is folding. Also Tour of Britain, Tour Series and London Nocturne. I'm assuming Sky aswell. |

You know that if you don't put a verb into a sentence, one has to assume the one from the former sentence still applies?

Ronde changed the course slightly for the 2014, for the better I think.
No more of the circuit!

But to clarify, ToB, TS, LN and Sky are all okay for 2014! Which is good news

The british riders, since Sky's revolutionary training programmes have no effect for their non-british riders.

As long as hypocritical Brailsford is around, Sky as a whole.

Lagutin is a Russian citizen from now on, he is going to give up the Uzbeki jersey and his main goal of the season next year is winning the Russian national champ road race. ( thus winning it gives him a good chance of a contract with Katusha for 2015 )

Frantisek Rabon switches to off road and he will ride MTB after his contract with OPQS ended this year. He will ride for Specialized team (as Kulhavy) and would like to focus on MTB maratons.
Good career for him, always a loyal helper, what a motor on the flats, Cav owns him for some of his wins.

Disclaimer : not interesting for people not interested in training or physiology !P
Randomly browsing through links found on twitter, I've read about a new training method on FDJeux's feeder team website. It's, of course, meant for cyclists but coming from Kenyan athletes, but also used by the Aussies and Brits for their cycling teams.
Method's nickname is polarized training.
To make a long story short, it starts with noticing that cycling races are usually a firework during the first hour, then are ridden at a rather low pace before the last hour turns into another firework where leaders will decide the race either by attacking or everything will end in a mass sprint.
The analyze of heart beat and power records shows something logical : a fair share of high intensity (threshold work, critical power output, lactic, and sprint intensities), and of endurance, but very little time is spent at tempo intensities.
Consequence : LSDT (long slow distance training) and HIIT (high intensity interval training) are what training should be focused on.
In other words it means riding at 30/33 km/h during one hour or two provides little benefit (hey wait, I tend to do that...), intensity work is not done fast enough, whereas recuperation work (or endurance) is done too fast.
The repartition of time spent in each of those three main intensity work should be something like : endurance 80%, tempo 5 %, high intensity 15 %.
Spoiler I should think about it, although much more tempo than that probably suits what I do more (in terms of running).
I've also bought Fred Grappe's two books lately. Must read them. Soon. |

Interesting stuff. When you think about it, it makes perfect sense really. |

Yeah, wonder why no one thought of it before, I mean, it is glaringly obvious, though I wouldn't be able to keep up while the pros are recovering!! |

To be honest, I thought tempo was used quite a lot, for every important climb (mountain or longer climb) that's not decisive. I'm quite surprised by the figures I've read.
There are a couple of pros riding around, who're also on Strava. Most of their solo rides, long or short, are done at ~30 km/h (average), which is more or less what I do too (on 4ish hours rides), even if I never do 5 or 6 hours. I've no idea if you're strong or not compared to me, but most cyclists could probably hang on for a moment while the pros are resting.
Almost all of us would be slaughtered when they do intervals though. |

Former professional cyclist Arnaud Coyot died in a car crash. RIP
According to Le Parisien he was out drinking with former colleagues Guillaume Levarlet and Sébastien Minard. Levarlet was driving the vehicle and lost control of the vehicle possibly because he had too much alcohol. Very, very sad story and very stupid.

Levarlet (Cofidis) was the driver, more importantly was under influence of alcohol..... Minard (AG2R) was the other passenger. They both survived.
