The Spanish commentator says that he liked the short TTT, the low amount of ITT kilometers, but that he missed some hill top finishes. So basically he wants the Tour to become the Vuelta.

They try to plan flat stage arrival times carefully based on 45 km/h...that way they have a general idea. It's only a scheduled time.

they show a timer with the arc every 15 minutes or so at the buttom right corner (at least on my screen )

Not according to Martins. For example, on stage 16 he was both leading the break and leading the pack. According to Martins that day.
That's mostly because Martins uses 'Thomas Geraint' as a synonym for 'Sky rider'
