First of all, I am no member of the original Womenbase crew who gave us the unique opportunity to experience the world of women's cycling on our computer screens. But I have been playing this fascinating database for ages: every year for the past 11 years I have completed a full in-game season. And yes, the game is still running stable.
It's only logical that there have been plenty of changes made to my savegame. At first, it was all about bug-fixing, then I started adding countries, scouting-areas, real riders, then races, then teams. And now I have tried to transfer all of these incremental changes to the original database and share it with you.
What I have made is just a huge patch for the original Womenbase, but for some of the features you still have to use an editor to unlock. Fast Editor would be my tool of choice as it works fine with savegames as well.
What does my patch do?
• add 750 real-life riders, including the top 100 riders from every single season from 2008 to 2017 plus some other "freaks";
riders are "retired" in the DB, they can be put into action via the editor whenever you like, and most of them will be found by your scouts
• add 1500 rider photos
• add 3 hidden teams (Trek-Segafredo, Movistar, Sunweb) and 5 national teams including jersey, accessoires, logos and minimaillots; the pro-teams remain "hidden" as national teams unless you edit them
• add jerseys, logos and accessoires to replace via editor DSB with CCC, Safi with Astana, and T-Mobile with Canyon-SRAM during your career
• add several countries, e.g. Iran
• add a new pack of flags
• add new scouting areas; e.g. Chile in South America, Cuba, Middle East, South Africa etc.
• add to the name pool for scouted riders
• add new races, e.g. Tour of Norway, Amstel Gold Race, TTT Vargarda etc.
• replace some of the team logos
• replace all equipment logos
• change the magazine sub-menu
• add Cycling Weekly as the post-race newspaper
• major, yet subtle UI overhaul, including a set of cursors, icons, colors, logos, backgrounds etc.
• add 'Allround' as a new rider specialization, instead of the cobble specialization; cobble training is still available
• add favorite races to all riders
• re-translate some German phrases and words
• probably more that I don't remember right now
How to install?
Since this is a patch for the original Womenbase, you must install the game first, then the latest patch, then the original Womenbase v1.0 using both installers, and then you need to unpack my zip and copy/overwrite all files in the respective directories.
You can find the latest patch for PCM 2007, as well as Womenbase v1.0 in this thread.
What about bugs?
I expect there to be a few bugs, some of which were carried over from the original Womenbase or even the game itself (shock!). None of them should be game-breaking. And some of them I have fixed.
Some bugs I have encountered over the years:
• The winning Women's World Tour team is listed numerous times in the submenu "Races/Season rankings"
• The scouting continent called "Rest of the world" cannot display all areas that I have added - in my case South East Asia is missing, but it could be anything for you. The riders will appear in free agency later, though.
• Very few riders have their photo missing; just check STA_TGA what the filename is supposed to be and rename the photo
• I tried to fix a bug that occurs from 2008 onwards where the World Championship stages are mixed up - in theory it should be fixed but I haven't tested it yet
• The career table on every rider's sheet has some wrong entries - especially during the transfer period
• The names of the intermediate sprints are in German (e.g. "Berg" if it's a mountain sprint) - as can be seen in one of the pictures below. There is no way to change that but to edit all stage files
Any questions?
Just write a post or send me a message. I am happy to help if you want to know how to add riders or teams or use the editor to your liking.
