The race is going to get exciting now with all the climbing to come Wink

SSJ2Luigi
The difference then was how people collected their remaining points, Luigi and Jesleyh both score twice for Top10 riders (Sybrandy and Duyn)

didn't I get a additional point for having Dirk Müller in my top 5

baggieboys32

Daggen will probably keep predicting a win from a Swedish guy, and since they don't have that great climbers, we might reel Daggen back in Wink

Nope. Stevenson will show you all Pfft. And to be honest. I didn't put in a single Swede in my TT prediction Pfft

Today see's the first .HC climb of the race, the 17.4km 7.4% average, Col Du Gran Colombier. Just 13km after it's completin, the riders follow up with the second category ascent, of the 7.2km 5% average Col du Richemond. From there it's noses downhill all the way to the final kilometre, which see's teh days final difficulty, with a slightly uphill sprint for the line.

A day then, to sort out the real contenders, and the expectation is for a new Maillot Jaune before the day is out!

The Race

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/Underdog%20Tour/PCM0001_zpsef7a5a97.jpg
A name we've not heard much from so far here in the Underdog tour, started us off today, with Hoberg of Concordia leading the attacks, followed by several common suspects including De Poortere and Sybrandy.

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/Underdog%20Tour/PCM0002_zpse1289edb.jpg
Surprisingly however, De Rijke are clearly keen on a hard day today, despite the climbs to come, they keep the pace very high in the early stages, and it's difficult for the break to form.

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/Underdog%20Tour/PCM0003_zpsabb53e42.jpg
Another attack takes place just before the intermediate sprint. They seem to have confused the sprinters, and only one of the guys in the Maillot Vert competition actually fights for some points. Jonas Ljungblad darts away for 7points, and because of the profile to come, becomes the new Maillot Vert, stealing the jersey back off Flahauts' Shoulders.

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/Underdog%20Tour/PCM0004_zps5c92369c.jpg
Eventually, we get a breakaway form, under the shadow of the Cote Du Corlier. Today sees one of our largest breaks to date, 8 men construed of: Fognini(WiT); Averin(A&V); Howson(Jayco); Vermeer(Nutrixxion); Lalouette(RLM); Semple(Drapac); Vorobyev(Itera) and Bichot(Veranda's).

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/Underdog%20Tour/PCM0005_zps31185509.jpg
It's the Ukrainian riding for Amore and Vita, Averin, who wins the first KotM sprint, beating Howson and Vorobyev on the line.

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/Underdog%20Tour/PCM0007_zps399483a9.jpg
Behind them, the pace has been kept steady, with the break holding a gap of about 8minutes. As they reach the base of the Gran Colombier, so De Rijke and Competitive Cyclist begin to come forwards, and the pace starts to rise, instantly putting some riders into trouble on the slopes.

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/Underdog%20Tour/PCM0008_zpsb4a4ad44.jpg
It's no surprise, after 7km of climbing, the first major fracture appears in the peloton, 62 riders simply not able to match the pace. The gap has fallen to around 7minutes at this point, but the team of Competitive Cyclist are really hammering out a pace at the front in an effort to break it up.

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/Underdog%20Tour/PCM0009_zpse0746691.jpg
With 7km to the summit we see the first move from a GC guy. Both D'Olivier and Stevenson have made their way to the front of the peloton, and take over the pace setting themselves...

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/Underdog%20Tour/PCM0010_zpse8597892.jpg
Before with 5.5km to go, D'Olivier's team mate, Marc Goos goes on the attack. After a reasonable first week he finds himself just 1'18 behind in the GC, this is a good opportunity to gain some time if he can make the attack stick!

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/Underdog%20Tour/PCM0011_zps72ae5d70.jpg
Certainly Grajales' team don't like the move, and have come right forwards to bring him back. The peloton itself is shrinking now, exactly what the Colombian will be hoping for as he desparately needs to regain some time after his drastic TT!

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/Underdog%20Tour/PCM0012_zps683d08d6.jpg
The gap is 3'45 as the break crest the summit of the Gran Colombier. Vermeer of Nutrixxion takes the 20 points to become virtual Polka-dot, he's followed over the summit by Lalouette and Vorobyev.

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/Underdog%20Tour/PCM0013_zps516a8703.jpg
Meanwhile just slightly further down the slopes comes the news of trouble for the Maillot Jaune! He's hung onto the first group to within a 1000m of the summit, but he looks like he's pushing squares at the moment, really struggling to keep in touch with the peloton where he is all but team mate less!

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/Underdog%20Tour/PCM0014_zps6f6fe12e.jpg
Somehow he hangs on to the descent, and is kept inside the shrinking peloton at this point, meanwhile on the descent the group of Goos and Stevenson just off the front have opened there lead to 43" and caught the first of the breakaway men...

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/Underdog%20Tour/PCM0015_zps056c52c6.jpg
A fact which the GC guys aren't best pleased about, Grajales(CC) and Zanasca(WiT) are the first guys to go on the attack, their move comes just before the base of the days final climb, finishing just 18km before the line, with descent all the way to the finish. This move could quickly become very dangerous!

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/Underdog%20Tour/PCM0016_zpsb560beaf.jpg
A second WiT rider Tamayo decides to follow the next batch of attacks, this time lead by team mate of the Maillot Blanc, Joe Dombrowski. Surprisingly Craddock himself has no response, instead staying in the group of the Maillot Jaune, Huub Duyn.

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/Underdog%20Tour/PCM0017_zps067cb56c.jpg
Still with a gap of 1'48, the breakaway reach the summit of the final climb, again with Vermeer collecting maximum points. The attention now turns to the stage win, can they hang on vs the favourites and chasers behind?

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/Underdog%20Tour/PCM0018_zpsbffad686.jpg
The group of favourites (minus Craddock) has really powered away over the final kilometres of the climb, and then blistered down the descent. the on road timings are as follows with 10km remaining:
E1------->Group Favourites(50"Wink-------->Group Jerseys(3'11)

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/Underdog%20Tour/PCM0020_zpsa204509e.jpg
7km to go... The break is caught thanks to a slaving Tamayo. WiT are the only team here with 2 guys, and they make perfect use of it, closing the gap. Vrecer went solo downhill from the peloton, and is now just 52" back.

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/Underdog%20Tour/PCM0021_zps91390368.jpg
3000m... As the road begans to tilt back upwards again for the final time, Grajales begins to crank it up once more, the guys are starting to crack into 2 groups once again, though Vrecer has managed to close the gap, his time losses will be minimal if anything today now, thanks to a brilliant piece of downhilling!

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/Underdog%20Tour/PCM0022_zpsd3f11a42.jpg
With 1km to go it's Dombrowski on the front, he's got Zanasca behind him, followed by Goos and Grajales, todays given us an interesting insight into the climbers, now it's time to see which of them has most left for a kick to finish!

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/Underdog%20Tour/PCM0025_zps8d6b500a.jpg
For the 3rd time this race, Joe Dombrowski can take the stage win! he powers through the final few hundred metres to take a convincing stage win once more! The group split in the final few hundred metres, and some of the favourites were caught out, finishing with a 23" gap!

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/Underdog%20Tour/PCM0028_zps0ded188e.jpg
Much as suspected, when the mountains got really tough, Duyn didn't have the climbing ability and loses 3'46 today. However, he surely knew this day was coming, and the biggest loser of the stage is without doubt, Lawson Craddock, who missed the move and also seems to put an end to his GC ambitions, it shows how one mistake can be so costly on this stage!

Bontrager are slowly turning the screw on the opposition Wink

Jesleyh
It was clear a few stages ago that Dombrowski would probably win the GC. I'm happy about Goos his 3th place in the GC of course Wink
Craddock was bad though, finishing behind guys like Duyn(62MO if I'm right)
Great that you had time for a stage though Pfft

baggieboys32
@All, Thankyou for the great support you've all been giving me, I'm now back in the world of PCM.Daily, so let's get this show, BACK ON THE ROADDD!

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/Stage%20headers/stage11_zps320c48b1.jpg

Where to start when considering todays stage! Without doubt; Stage 12 is the most difficult of the race, containing 7400m of climbing in just 144km! No sooner have the riders left the KM0, than they are faced with the days first challenge, the 25.3km 6.2% average Col de la Madelaine, awarding 25KotM points on the summit.

From their the riders descend through St Etienne, before arriving at the base of challenge 2, the 2067height meter ascent of the Croix De Fer, we could see a rider going long range from here, in a day which will likely shake up the GC yet again!

At that point the riders are just 2 climbs away from the finish line, first the Col Du Mollard, 5.7km at 6.8% (Though with sections as high as 13% in the early slopes) before the final climb, providing a summit finish at the ski station of La Touissuire, after 18km at 6.1%

A day then to separate the men from the boys, prepare for a major GC showdown...

The Race

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0001-99_zps9202bd0d.jpg
Clearly un-phased by what was to come, Miche rider Franzoi attacks with the gun today. His team have had a quiet ride so far in the race, so perhaps this is an attempt to reclaim something from the race?

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0002-87_zpsa0a1edb0.jpg
With just 1 man out in front, their were big points available 10km in at the int. Sprint. However it was uncontested surprisingly, meaning that Ljungblad maintains his lead for another day!

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0003-86_zpsa38e1995.jpg
Frivolities aside, it was not long before the road start pitching uphill, Guay of Roubaix Lille Métropole came across the gap just before the climb, and the duo were joined by Jayco's Watson not long afterwards.

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0004-90_zps362b40b1.jpg
The pace was high from early right at the beginning of climb one, taking an immediate effect! 63men were split off the back of the peloton after just 6km of the Madelaine! It's looking like an exhausting day in the saddle today!

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0005-85_zpsf337aa81.jpg
As the groups continued the ascent, a further 4 men tried to come across the gap. They were: Bichot (Veranda's); Lapthorne (Drapac); Retschke (Eddy Merckx Indeland) and Lowsley-Williams (UK Youth). As they made the catch the gap was confirmed at 3'20 back to the peloton.

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0006-87_zps57b622db.jpg
It was 3 of these men who contested the first of the mountain sprints, Lapthorne of Drapac timed his sprint to perfection to take the full 25points, holding of UK Youth rider Lowsley-Williams on the line.

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0007-82_zpsacb927ac.jpg
On the descent, Franzoi worked hard to set a blistering downhill pace, opening the gap to over 7minutes. However it cost them some break-members and just 4 men arrived at the base of the days biggest climb, to the Croix de Fer!

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0008-101_zpscb2d390d.jpg
Surprisingly, it was the team of outsider Vrecer who set about making the pace hard on the days second climb. He's a strong climber so perhaps the team are trying to set him up for something? Either way it damaged the breaks advantage, bringing them back under the 4'30 mark.

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0009-97_zps47e95531.jpg
Not that Lowsley-Williams was going to let that stop him on the days second and final .HC climb, this time he held off the Australian Lapthorne, to take the 25points available.

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0010-94_zpsd22ae9c8.jpg
As the peloton moved onto the penultimate climb, the second category Col Du Mollard, Bontrager-Livestrong did start to take control, they held the gap steady at just over 4'30, enough to put several riders into trouble out the back...

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0011-75_zpsa1b2c4e5.jpg
Meanwhile it was the UK Youth rider Lowsley-Williams who collected a second victory, leaving both him and Lapthorne on 50 points a-piece! Vermeer will be handing over the KotM jersey after today it seems.

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0013-84_zps8b0f1c01.jpg
Still with 15km to go in the final climb, the first of the favourites goes on the attack! However, it's not as people were expecting Vrecer, but rather the Cuban Romero! Perhaps seeing the US flag on the side of the road, riled him into attacking Dombrowski!

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0014-67_zps6357cfd3.jpg
With 13km to the line, and a 3'20 gap, the UK Youth rider has decided he's got more chance going alone. He starts to pull away from his companions, who can't mach his increased tempo!

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0015-57_zps30c577cf.jpg
Behind there's drama in the peloton, Grajales has gone on the attack 12km from the summit! Romero has a lead of 34" He desparately needs a Rasmussen-esque attack if he's in with any chance of overall victory, it looks like an all-or-nothing move by the climbing specialist, he's got a lot to do against a group!

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0017-43_zps03c0e52b.jpg
7km to the line.. The break disintegrated and Romero has a 15" gap over Grajales. The peloton has exploded in the last 3km, and is down to just under 30men, most of the Bontrager team have also gone out the back, only Dombrowski, Craddock and Mannion remain after they tried to respond to the Colombians attack!

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0018-42_zps6f88e96b.jpg
5km... Dombrowski is out of team mates and the duo are still out ahead, The peloton has cracked once again, now just 11 men remain. The two biggest casualties so far are 9th and 10th in the GC, Tamayo and Craven.

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0019-47_zps334d21d1.jpg
4km... Zanasca(5th) of WiT see's an opportunity as Stevenson(2nd) and Goos(3rd) both look to be struggling with the pace and attacks the remaining peloton, Dombrowski and Vrecer both counter the move, but still Romero maintains the gap to both Grajales and the chasers, he's looking really strong today!

1500m... Romero has actually increased the gap! He's got a 37" lead over Grajales and 1'02 back to the chasing group, If he maintains the gap, then today will see him move into the overall lead!

400m to go... Romero has the stage in the bag, and with it a sizeable gap! 500m behind him Dombrowski has closed the gap to the older Colombian, the question now however, is how much time can he close down in the last 1000m!

Incredible stage victory for the Cuban Romero! He moved away just 3km into the final climb, and no one was able to shut him down! The clock is ticking for Dombro now, what will the timer read? He can't lose more than 52" and retain the jersey...

54 Seconds! Romero is the new GC leader! a 2" advantage is enough to reward him with the Maillot Jaune into tomorrows stage! Grajales comes home in the same time, whilst Vrecer and Zanasca follow in 1'22" down on the stage winner.
