That Mathieu van der Poel, I fear him
He could well be the next Nys! |

His lap times are sometimes even faster than in the u23 category. And those are not very far from the elite. |

Lars van der Haar won also everything last year, and now he has a hard time to score a podium. But van der Poel is definitely a great talent.

Let's hope that Van der Poel will focus on cyclo cross, and not move to the road. Then we have another rider to make it more international, together with Van der Haar, Mourey (when he starts), Stybar (few races a year), Taramarcaz, Van Amerongen and sometimes Walsleben and Meisen.
Tomorrow is Baal, so expect a Nijs-demonstration in his home race!

Agreed Van der Haar isn't as good as Boom and Albert were in their first pro years.
Van der Haar thanks many of his wins to his sprinting ability. He's probably the fastest sprinter among cyclo-cross riders. He's still 21 and this is his debut year in the elites. He'll be there in 1 or 2 years.
I interesting to see what Van der Poel can do in the u23 category next year. His concurrent in the junior ranks Van Aert is riding pretty good in the u23. |

Nys said yesterday on belgium tv that he is losing all his energy in this bussy period. So I'm not sure that it will be a demonstration as albert did yesterday, but he will fight for the victory for sure.

No Nys in the GP Sven Nys? Well, he's more concerned with the WorldCup race coming up, understandable! |

Apparently there were beer-throwers again, judging from Stybar's tweets.
zdenekstybar There is not enough of water and you just true away beer. Think about your self!!!

zdenekstybar Ohhhh I almost forget: it's for the idiot who true the beer in the last lap in my face:"spend better 2€ for the kids in Africa"

Stybar just doesn't seem able to win this season
(not counting Boonen & Friends)
The only race he'll ride from now on is the Czech Nat. Championship.

Tom Meeusen will not ride the World Cup race in Rome, because of a doping investigation.

A strong Pauwels takes the win after attacking from the lead group with his teammate Vantornout. Vantornout was very unlucky when his chain dropped in the last lap, while he was in 2nd place. Lars van der Haar was also part of the lead group together with Albert and Mourey, but crashed and was forced to chase the majority of the race. MTB rider Fontana was overjoyed with his 3rd place in his home country.

Van der Poel was weak, only 25 seconds faster than the 2nd.

He probably will. Only 1 race left and third place is enough for him. So far he's ridden podium on almost every race this season.
@felix
That's because the race wasn't very difficult. No mud, no sand only a few hills. I'm suprised none of the races ended in a sprint. It was still a typical 'Mathieu van der Poel'-win. Attacking in the first lap and then staying away.

On the subject, he continues his winning streak. 22/22 |
