Podium place on a Tour stage though, not overall.
Pate is a superb workhorse on flat stages. I remember him and Bert Grabsch on the front all day for HTC a couple of years ago, just to ensure a mass sprint.
I strongly doubt that he'd be a strong GC rider, even if the peloton was more clean though. He's not really a climber, just an allround strong helper.
On the Tour mountain stage he podiumed on, he was beaten by "top class climber" Simon Gerrans for example.

We joke a lot about Danny Pate, but he's a good rider. He's great on flat and a good helper on the hills and the mountain. |

Back on topic, William Walker perhaps? Admittedly unlucky with illness, and without it he could have been very good. Australia champion back in 2006. |

Your doubt is right, Czech media are surprised every year, that Kreuziger is not a GT winner still...

He has tachycardia which is a abnormal beating of the heart so has had to sit out of competitive cycling for something like 3 years but returned this year with Drapac. He won the Tour of Gippsland but has had to sit out the last few races with heart issues again, he joined Drapac to gain DS experience so good luck to him. Big talent but just unlucky

Yeah, what is that about?
He will help to win Tour for Alberto next year and 2014 is his year.

I don't see him winning a GT, actually. But I do hope he'll manage to shape up and get a top 3 and win some minor tours! |

I know you were but I want to see him win something big one day (besides Tour de Suisse and Romandie, of course), I think he could definitely ride top 3 in Giro(/Vuelta) and top 5 in Tour. |

Eh, I didn't read the entire thread, I admit, but I scanned a few pages and didn't see the name Gesink in here anywhere. So, it seems appropriate that I mention Robert Gesink, aka Robert 'Busty' Gesink, aka 'Future Tour Winner Gesink'.
(crowd).
It was eleven more than necessary.

There was a several page discussion that included him
He isn't a bust IMO, but he is the world's most unlucky rider.

Plus he has several good results, probably not in par with his talent, but definitely more than enough to say he isn't a bust.

Speaking of William Walker, he's back winning again.
No top race, but at least today's stage in Tour of Tasmania.

Not sure if mentioned, but, Mauricio Soler. Very unlucky career with lots of falls, injuries and illness, but since winning the KoM jersey in the Tour, back in 2007, winning a stage and finishing just outside the top-10, he didn't achieve nothing else, until his career seemed to be coming back to a nice path in Switzerland last year, stopped by that awful crash... |

I don't think he's been mentioned yet. I didn't think of him but now that you mention it, yeah |
