I don't know the stats, but I'm thinking top 10 was the only possibility anyway, so now Eric will get 10 stages.

Very good start of the Giro for Stijn, a well deserved win . I hope things will go better for Eric.

Giro d'Italia - stage 7
The first mountain stage. Exciting times for Eric!
At the third stage it was exactly a year ago when Wouter Weylandt had died in the tragic Giro of 2011. But his name is written all over the country, as seen here. He is not forgotten. It brings us a feeling of serenity and sadness, while the peloton never stops. It reminds us of the futility of racing, and what really matters in this world, what's really important.
However, the race continued...
This time I was well positioned and on the lookout for any attacks, seeing if maybe I could counter them.
But as the peloton made fast progress along these Italian roads, I starting thinking that if I were to take some time back, I had to attack. This was never planned, but an impuls, as most of life's greatest moments happen.
The attack went well, and although many were able to follow and some were still ahead, I ended on a 10th place and moved to 22th place in the GC. (Arroyo won, by the way)
I'm pretty tired and there's another mountain stage tomorrow, so I'll get you the GC then, see you! |

Giro d'Italia - stage 8
The profile of today just asks for an attack near the end. Since Eric's already lost more than 5 minutes, there's a big chance they'll let him go. So that was the tactic of the day.
Riding in the peloton was nice and easy today, we were lucky that there was a small breakaway without very strong riders. So there's nothing to report except the sound of wheels on the tarmac.
Then, before the final climb, I attacked! All or nothing, I thought to myself!
Being more than 5 minutes behind in the GC, no one deemed it necessary to reel me back in, they gave me one minute...
But they didn't know that one minute is all I need. Basso was the only one thinking the same as me: stage win! Fortunately, he came close but he never found my wheel, as he had lost too much energy earlier in the stage with a hopeless attack.
I got this picture from a fan, how great is that!
However impossible it might seem, I did it!
This is like a dream and I still can't believe it. It's too good to be through. In our - Stijn and me - debut, we both get a stage win, in this race! You can't make this stuff up! Lotto probably doesn't regret giving us a chance this year.
I also did a good job in the GC, moving back in the top 20!
Of course, I couldn't have won if they hadn't let me go, but they did, and I kept going. I may not be the strongest climber, but today I was definitely the smartest!
Van Garderen lost many minutes today and De Gendt is the new wearer of the pink jersey!
I can just imagine tomorrow's headlines...
This is so great, so great. Both me and Stijn have one Giro victory in our pocket. I'm frikking 21 years old! Just fantastic.

However, the next days will be hard, as I'll try to stay in that top 20. I'm confident that I'll do fine. Tomorrow's another flat, so let's wait for Stijn!

I don't know the stats, but I'm thinking top 10 was the only possibility anyway, so now Eric will get 10 stages.
Jup, he isn't 85 mountain, not by far, that's for sure
1 stage done, 9 to go, huh
Though I got lucky on this stage, no one followed. It was attack, attack, attack and then it suddenly stopped. I though: what about one more attack?
Maybe it was the last straw

Thanks everyone. The stage wins were unexpected and the Giro is already a big success for me
But let's see if we can make it even better! |

I spread confusion with my rider Van Gent <-> De Gendt
Indeed, Belgium would go absolutely crazy. I hope De Gendt wins the Giro |

Arrgh, can't keep up! You write insanely fast! I check this every couple of days, and suddenly there's 2 more thread pages (a.k.a. 2 gigantic walls of text) to read through.
It's interesting and very well written, but damn you write fast! |

Excuse me for the inconvenience I've caused you
However, I haven't as much spare time as I did the last days (in fact, those might've been the last 100% carefree days of my life), so the story will go slower now, I think you'll like it. Probably around 1 - 2 - 3 races a day, depending on what day it is. But I do hope you enjoy it |

Giro d'Italia - stage 9
The stage of today would most likely end in a mass sprint. However, the hills near the end of the race could make it hard for sprinters to reach the finish line in the peloton and there will certainly be some riders with some punch left, going for the stage win.
The race went fairly well, until the final hills. I survived them okay but I think I (and many sprinters) had lost some energy and I wasn't capable of a real good sprint. However, I ended 16th, which isn't that bad, but it isn't that good either. Being the best hilly rider of the sprinters, Goss won.
One more thing: Kruiswijk lost some time, caused by a fall. So Eric moves up one more place in the GC!
