Paris - Nice - Stage 5

The first hilly stage and the only one, which finishes with the climb. This means we should see GC conteders fighting for the win. There are 9 riders in front.



Movistar and Omega work for their leaders. We should see Gilbert (Omega) in the front on the final climb.



There are some attacks with 40 kms to go, but the peleton goes really fast. Leading rider is only 1'52'' ahead.



20 kms to go, last rider is chased. Will we see atacks before the final climb?



The climb begins and Gesink is moving up front. Gilbert and Contador (Saxo Bank) are find behind so far. Not the best place to attack for them.



Gesink is leading and Galland (Saur) tries to pass him. Contador was able to move up front, but he is exhausted, while Gilbert is closed around 10th place, the same Kreuziger (Astana). This Omega rider is Hermans.



Gesink wins today! Dekker did great job for him on a final climb. Kreuziger comes in top 3, just behind Galland and in front of Gilbert.

First stage for sprinters. There are plenty riders trying to attack.



This is good for us, because team with sprinters are chasing the breakaway.



Flecha (Sky) and McEwen (Pepsi) are leading the race, but they don't have bigger chance.



Garmin and FDJ are doing great work. 40 kilometers to go, the break is only 2 minutes ahead.



Boom is trying to attack, with 12 kilometers to go, when the break is chased.



But he is chased by FDJ train: Hutarovich (spr. 80), Rojas (spr. 81) and Farrar (spr. 83). It seems their train is unbeatable!



But it's not true! Farrar started his sprint too late and Peter Sagan (Liquigas) is the winner!

Another hilly stage. Today's weather is much better than yesterday. We have 6 riders up front.



Rabobank doesn't seem worry about leading riders and controls the peleton pretty well.



20kms to go, Katusha and Omega want to chase the break, but they are 2'40'' ahead and the winner is in that group.



David Millar (Garmin) attacks from the breakaway with 12 kilometers to go.



But he is chased very quick. Now it's Riblon (AG2R) attacking and this one looks much better.



Meanwhile in the peleton, Gilbert and Kreuziger attack. However Dekker looks really strong again...



...and he needed only 4 kilometers to catch them. In the break, Riblon is chased.



Jeremie Galland (Saur) is the winner of today's stage! Yesterday he was second, but this time no one could beat him.



Peleton was going really fast in the end and we had a huge crash, which stopped most of the peleton. Gilbert has fallen and he lost much time, while Contador and Mosquera have an injury and they won't finish this race.

Another day for sprinters. Many riders are attacking, but also many teams want to chase them.



Final breakaway is very interesting: Rujano (Androni), McEwen (Pepsi), Flecha (Sky), Porte (Saxo Bank) and Taaramae (Cofidis). These are very good riders, but they all are 5 minutes behind in GC.



The same as yesterday, Garmin and FDJ are chasing the break after Rabobank riders did their job in the middle of the stage.



Flecha attacks and no one can follow him, but teams with sprinters are going faster.



Two teams up front: FDJ with same, strong train as yesterday and HTC: Eisel (spr. 74), Renshaw (spr. 78) and of course Cavendish (spr. 85). Some other riders, like Haussler or Sagan, lost contact with leading riders.



And Mark Cavendish is the winner! Farrar is second and Breschel third! It's a bit surprising, but other sprinters were too far. Also Napolitano's 4th place is a surprising result too.
