They've been saying Argos for at least 3 weeks on Belgian tv, though they were not sure. Anyone got any idea what the real reason behind all the mystery is, because to me it feels a bit anticlimactic.

When it would have been Apple, or Nike, or the government of Nigeria, that would be worth the wait. But Argos?? Anyway, they've got their sponsor, and more important the money, that's what counts for the team.

You always have to see the positive side: Riders don't have to fear Clenbuterol charges after they have been to China. |

Hangzou are a well installed race, that has proven its seriousness over years, it has an interesting course, and is a pleasure to every team and rider, especially thanks to its top class facilities, and it also has a lot of enthusiastic fans, a perfect T.V. coverage, and anything you could think about.
It thus makes perfect sense to have it into World Tour, how come it wasn't in before ?
Oh, wait... |

What a joke. It makes sense to have a race in China that is close to Beijing, so that riders aren't just making the trip there for nothing, but a WT race? Why not a HC race or something?

There already is Hainan at around that time which is HC

True. Then to accomplish essentially the same thing they should be encouraging more WT teams to go there.
When will the UCI learn that globalising the sport does not simply mean "throw events in a foreign country"? Rather, to foster a truly global cycling community you have to invest at the grassroots. You have to help create a cycling community that you can't simply force by throwing big WT races that are still dominated by the same old countries. It makes no sense.

I think that the UCI thinks that cycling = Formula 1. Go where the money is, regardless of the logistics or history. |

The Canadian races have been a massive sucess, so has the TDU, and neither of those countries have as many UCI races has China has. China have been running Quinghai Lake and Hainan as HC races for several years now, and now have not only expanded into the PT but also set races up in the bigger cities to try and attract more fans. Nothing wrong with that.

Nothing at all. But without support for Chinese cyclists i the forms of more teams its main purpose can't be a success. I'm curious to see how Champion Systems will help this trend.

The UCI have announced that road art at this year's TdF will be banned after a report was released today detailing the negative impact of excess chalk and paint that covers the roads during the Grand Tour on local wildlife. Prof Ali Lo of the Lyon Institut de l'Environnement (L.I.E) compiled the report from research spanning over the past 10 years. The iconic road art will no longer be seen on mountain stages with fines of up to €3,000 to be issued to those breaking the new rule. |

It is, but that'd still make sense I reckon. The weird part is that it'd only be about TDF. |

Argos is a relatively new merger between other companies. They wouldn't be interested in having their brand exposed before time, and moreover, they wouldn't be interested in being known as a sponsor, before their own finances were mapped out.
Nothing special. |

The Tour of the Basque Country normally starts today, and is normally on Eurosport but no sign of it in the listsings for the whole week.
Anyone shed any light whether it is still this week or if it will be televised?
