Giro De Sardegna Final Standings

General Classification

The riders of Youtube set the gauntlet at the end of day two, making light work of the steep climb to the finish, and gaining a minute on the chasing pack, the only potentially dangerous stage for our Lead was day 4, but tight work by the team mates meant that no one was able to escape, and thanks to that, Peter Pal is able to claim the Leaders jersey. Congratulations

Points Jersey

When Peter Pal arrived at the start line on day one, his target was the points jersey, he didn't expect to be walking away with not one, but 2 jerseys! His stage victories and repeated podium finishes were enough to see off the competition from Italian Sprint Star, Allessandro Petacchi, to claim the victory by a massive 39points.

King of the Mountains

Youtube may have claimed victory in the one hill-climb finish, but overall, there was never intention from our lads to target this, and the victor was Nocentini of AG2R la Mondiale, he made frequent attacks on the climbs, and was able to take the victory bespite the large points bonus Pal received for his victory on the mountain finish.

Young Riders

Although Kando was well placed on many stages, and worked extremely hard for the team, he was sadly 9" behing the Garmin climber at the end of the final day, he had pulled back the gap from 45 seconds after the mountain day, but this proved to be just large enough to stop Boss from claiming victory, still an excellent work by the young rider, who was riding to support leaders Pal and Leinstein, rather than for personal goals.

Rider of the Tour

As incredible as it is to claim both the GC and Points jerseys in a race, my rider of the tour actually goes to Kando Boss, who was on the front driving on day one and two, stopping any rider from escaping to make victory impossible, then in the sprint finishes as a leadout man for key sprinter Peter Pal. My Definitive reason for awarding Boss with this token though, is his incredible performance on day 3, saving Pal from slipping out of contention, despite already driven with all he had to give just moments earlier.

Congratulations to him and the team, for a FANTASTIC tour!

Kuurne-Bruxelles-Kuurne

The first of the one day cobbled classics in which we will be participating, the race is not one of the UWT category classics, but still tends to be dominated by the Pro tour sides, who use it as an opportunity to get the cobblers into form before the start of the Top Calendar races later on through March-May.

Todays race took place in strong winds, and for the first 80km, we had heavy rain, so it was no surprise when the riders came out in there under-thermals and most riders stayed in the relative protection of the peloton rather than braving a surprise attack.

i40.tinypic.com/wgzr50.png

The board elected to send a strong cobbling team, though dropping Pye in favour of Miguel Rocha who was better suited to the poor weather conditions the day presented them with. Cavendickx was named as leader, with the in from Peter Pal named as sprinter.

i44.tinypic.com/ru2v5v.png

As the race, 7riders did brave an attack, and working co-operatively they managed to get a large lead over the peloton, Alexander Lens joined the group out ahead, more to force other teams to work than with any real hope of victory.

Spoiler
i43.tinypic.com/2itjwgp.png

The race drew towards the first set off cobbles, and still no team had taken up the effort, they were now 7minutes ahead, and there lead kept growing, Alexander Lens was the strongest rider in the group, and forced to lead the group through the tougher portions in order to keep the pace, but his work extended the gap, making the break start to look more threatening.

Spoiler
i40.tinypic.com/2eas3z8.png

On the cobbled sections multiple riders within the peloton received punctures, but the break group was lucky, and no one was removed, fortunately no one was victim to a crash over the treacherous sections of the route, though the smaller group was able to make good use of the cobbled hills to gain further valuable seconds on the now chasing Quickstep and Leapord teams.

Spoiler
i44.tinypic.com/dgmb9i.png

Once they had decided to work, there was no hanging around, many riders were dropped by the rapid pace the teams up front set, including Miguel Rocha, and Alexander Il Cassano during the chase.

With the speed and wind protection they could maintain, the lead evaporated, and as a result, in the hope of making his break more worthwhile, Lens left his weaker breakaway companions and tried to go it alone for the last 40km.

Spoiler
i44.tinypic.com/wilpfo.png

Whilst his attack didn't get him the hoped for results, they did do enough damage, and the front group was reduced to 45riders, including 5 from TYT, as they entered the last 10kilometres.

Spoiler
i39.tinypic.com/e7kq2t.png

The riders were trying to set up a sprint but Cancellara and Boonen attacked forcing Youtube to abandon this plan and instead Zhou covered Pal for as long as possible, before catapulting him past Cancellara and Boonen with just 4km to go.

Spoiler
i43.tinypic.com/2q0t8jk.png

At this point it was just a case of doing as much as possible for the last 4km, trying to hang on against the chasing stars. He was able to pull a gap going into the final sprint, and with Boonen 20seconds back, it seemed likely that he had done enough.

He crossed the line 23seconds in front of Boonen, who appeared to give up the chasing, perhaps saving himself for a more important day later in the calendar.

Overall Results Below

i44.tinypic.com/2dlmz9t.png

Congratulations to the team for todays effort, in particular to Peter Pal, who nows top the Continental Tour rankings after todays race, and also to Alexander Lens, whose valiant breakaway forced other teams to use up valuable energy giving chase to the front-runner in harsh conditions.

Vuelta A La Región De La Murcia

The Vuelta De Murcia, is a short 3day affair, consisting of a day in the hills, a time trial and a flat sprinters stage first up. The DS decided to send most of the team that would be heading to the Paris-Nice next week, but saving the energy of Leader Jey-Cy Cavendickx in order to keep him fresher for some hard stages during that UWT race.

Spoiler
i40.tinypic.com/xljjbr.png

Today presented the flattest stage, and it seemed likely the day would come to a sprint finish unless a rider could hang on to a gap formed over the short climb near the end of the race. Today Youtube's hope was focused on Mike Pye, for a sprint victory, with the help from other key man, Peter Pal.

Spoiler
i40.tinypic.com/21ltu6c.png

As the race set off, multiple attacks were seen, with many teams trying to show off there jersey, or claim a few points early on in the stage, Timo Bern found himself present in an early break, leading one of the climbs, before his group was caught, and a second TYT man, Erec Chen attacked and got into the most successful break of the day.

Spoiler
i42.tinypic.com/6sxpw7.png

At the King of the mountains categorized climbs, Erec Chen lead the attacks, and the 12points he captured place him in the mountain jersey going into tomorrows hillier stage, a potential target for the rider who was given a Free Role in this race?

Spoiler
i43.tinypic.com/r8y03r.png

The break was reeled in despite several further attacks, and as the riders entered the final portion of the race, Pal was protecting Pye near the front of the peloton, other notable teams included Liquigas-Cannondale, though due to a crash earlier in the stage, Tom Leezer of Rabobank was not where he had hoped to be positioned, having never caught up the gap following his crash.

Spoiler
i42.tinypic.com/10zr82e.png

Pye launched off the wheel of Pal with 1.5km to go, but sadly, the Liquigas riders had snuck up on both sides, stopping him from getting ahead, and boxed in, the two riders couldn't stop the L-C sprinter from taking the stage, Pal claimed second, and Pye third.

No idea :/ how good is your internet connection?

It may be due to me using PNG files if you have a slow net connection, for the next stage i'll try using JPEG files, and see if that helps Smile

Vuelta La Región De Murcia Stage 2

Todays stage was a slow and steady climb right from the word go, with 2 climbs at the finale, likely to provide a willing puncheur with a shot at victory, we set off and liquigas set up at the front, protecting the yellow, and making life difficult for early breaks towards the start of the race.

Finally a small group did get away, and there lead grew, at one point over six minutes in stature, however, Movistar (Leader: Intauxsti) and Rabobank (Leader: Robert Gesink) started to drive, and as we reached the summit of the first climb, the two groups had re-joined.

Up the second climb, there was an attack by 3 riders, Movistars leader, along with José Alvés, covered by Kando Boss. They pulled a gap of 40" into the final descent, but were caught by the pack as they crossed the line, meaning that they were unable to claim a time gap going into tomorrow, the final stage of this short tour, however the 3riders did take the podium today, once again TYT claimed 2nd and 3rd spots.

Headed into tomorrows stage, Kando Boss may fancy his chances with regards to the leaders jersey, as a strong Time-Trialist, and only an 8second gap back to the peloton.

baggieboys32
and again... this time it didn't give me the option though... can you not replay a TT? i never got an option, so once again no screenshots... D:

It was during todays stage, that the riders of TYT were able to try out there latest gift from the sponsors, in preparation for the UWT race next week, there new Bell sponsored Time Trialling Helmets!

Big thanks to BoogieBoogie for his kind efforts on our new helmets, both for TT and Road use.

Vuelta La Región De Murcia Stage 3
Todays stage, a short 12km TT that would most likely give us our winner, the favourites- Denis Menchov, Kando Boss, Andreas Kloden, and Bernat Intxausti.

The riders were split by only 2minutes, top to bottom, and there were some surprising names inside the top 10, or more to the point, a lack of some of the expected ones, with Peter Sagan sneaking into 4th spot.

Denis Menchov
The rider had a particularly weak time trial, finishing in 28th place, and 33" back overall, this put an end to his GC hopes, perhaps saving himself for a later tour?

Kando Boss
The last of the TYT riders to set off today, and he placed a valiant attack, holding the lead spot until the penultimate rider Bernat Intxausti took the top role, aswell as not 1, not 2, but 3 jerseys out of the hands of Kando Boss, he seemed legitimately disappointed after the movistar rider crossed the line, but it should not be forgotten, that the Estonian TTist, is just 23 years of age, so to come second to a strong rider from within a Pro Tour team is a more than acceptable ride.

Bernat Intxausti
When Kardo Boss crossed the line in 16'56" it seemed likely this would be enough to claim the GC, Points, and -25 jerseys, especially with the strongest time triallists already having ridden the course without challenging his time, however Intxausti, unphased and in fine form after yesterdays stage win, thought differently, placing a really strong time over the second half of the course, he was able to steal the jerseys from Boss by a measly 5", a great effort, but not the way the TYT squad had hoped the day was going to finish...

i40.tinypic.com/2010jg0.png

Leaders, Points, -25: Bernat Intxausti with K.Boss second in all cases, good race by the movistar puncheur, claiming 2 stage victories on the second day, and in the decisive Time Trial, where he took over the lead in the first Two Classifications.

Although not claiming the pole spot in any of the competitions in the 3 day stage race, DS Bob Haskins was said to be pleased with the teams performance, and hopes the riders will be able to continue there good form into next weeks race, and the teams UWT debut, at the Paris-Nice.

When asked about tactics for the race, Haskins was secretive about his major plans, or positions he will target exclusively, but he did confirm the presence of Mike Pye, and Alex Zhou in the race. See you all then, for now, that's it from me here at PCM reporting.

Although it is early in the season, the team have already started circling around riders for next season, the most recent update comes from Pro Team Astana:

i40.tinypic.com/1z18zeq.png

Our man Steven Redmond was able to get an interview with Youtube Twitter DS, regarding the potential in's and out's for next season.

Who looks set to leave come the end of the season Bob?
Well, I'm sad to say that both Rabobank, and Liquigas are declaring interest in our Classics leader/sprinter Peter Pal, whose contract runs out at the end of the season, he is making strong demands regarding a new contract, and due to the 2years left of Jey-Cy Cavendickx's contract, we may have to let him leave the side.

Who would you like to replace him with then?
Well, as a British outfit, we like to try and stick to our roots where possible, we have been trying to line up a contract with Geraint Thomas to join the side, who would bolster our classics squad, or potentially lead the side through some of the small stage-races.

Any Big Names?
I think it's unlikely that the side will be looking towards riders for the Grand Tour Steve, with Rory Druce, Gary Sutton and Jakab Zoltan in the side, there's really no room for another strong leader in the side, especially as young starlet, José Alvés is starting to prove himself as a top class GC rider, potentially one to look out for further down the line.

Any other Targets?
The side is mainly looking to add depth to our squad, both with young sprinters, or as Fighter/TT's who will be able to work hard for the team, as such our major targets for next season, will be coming from Great Britain once again, we are currently targeting

Young Sprinters: Matt Cronshaw of Team Raleigh and Johnathon Bellis of Saxobank Sungard.

Workhorses/Rising Talents: Ian Stannard (Sky Procycling) Timothy Kennaugh (interesting younger brother of Sky rider Peter) and Luke Rowe (young british talent)

Obviously we will not expect to sign all of these riders, we expect a fight in order to sign both Luke Rowe, (major interest from Sky) and Matt Cronshaw (Raleigh will not want to give up there leader easily)

Mark Cavendish not a target?
Haha, i thought that name may come up at some point steve, but to be truthful, whilst we are dominating the CT currently, it seems unlikely that Cavendish will sign for a team, new to the Pro tour, and we don't feel that we can run a team containing him and Pye effectively, whilst the two will doubtless be working together at the world championships, it seems unlikely that sprinter Pye would be willing to accept a Leadout role for Mark Cavendish.

Cheers Bob, good luck with the season, and the Paris Nice next week!

All the best, Cheers

Paris-Nice Stage one
Arguably the easiest of the 8 stages, and our Pro Tour debut, we weren't expecting miracles today, a top 10 finish was our target for sprinter Mike Pye, whilst looking after Jey-Cy for later on in the tour, with some hilly finishes that may present him with an opportunity to place an attack.

Our own team was as follows

Spoiler
Leader- Jey-Cy Cavendickx
Sprinter- Mike Pye
Free Roles- Timo Bern and Erec Chen
Team Mates- Kando Boss, Xuo Zheng, Alexander Lens and Alex Zhou

i39.tinypic.com/zwanad.jpg

Many big names were present at the Paris-Nice, including a remarkably strong Leopard Trek team, containg Voigt, Schleck, Schleck and Cancellara, as well as the likes of Gilbert, Boonen, Eisel and of course our own contender Jey-Cy Cavendickx.

The race set off, with a large group forming near the front, and breaking off, attacking with intent to claim the available mountain points early in the day.

Spoiler
i39.tinypic.com/44a44.png

Included in the 13man breakaway group, was Timo Bern, who attacked hard on first climb and claim the full 4points available, meaning he will start tomorrows stage in the polka-dot jersey available for the KOM leader.

Spoiler
i42.tinypic.com/2m2tjjp.jpg

The front group then peddled along, no further attacks came, and the break was steadily reeled in, with Bern managing second at one of the two intermediate sprints along the route. the group was caught with around 12km to go, and the Youtube riders started to pull to the front to protect Pye in the final few kilometres.

Spoiler
i40.tinypic.com/4tk1f4.jpg

The youtube guys set up, and the train was starting to look more convincing, but Geox and Katusha blocked Pye from getting through a gap Zhou had left meaning he started falling backwards away from the leaders.

Spoiler
i40.tinypic.com/16bmwzl.jpg

It was once again Kardo Boss who rescued him from a nothing finish, riding back and pulling him forwards towards the leaders, his work must of been convincing, because the liquigas sprinter Finitto left his own train to take the wheel at the back of Pye, the sprint was off, but who would win...

Spoiler
i41.tinypic.com/mipgg5.jpg

Finitto, well placed on the wheel of Pye, was able to jump around him, and beat several strong sprinters over the last few metres, Pye was only able to claim 7th place, but this is both within the target places, and the names above him included some extremely strong sprinters- Boonen, Farrar, Rojas etc...

Spoiler
i39.tinypic.com/sf9btv.jpg

Overall a good showing for the team in its first ever UWT race, concluding with a creditable top 10 spot for sprinter Mike Pye, and also the KOM jersey heading into tomorrows stage. thus guaranteeing it will remain with us, until at least day 3, as tomorrow contains no categorized climbs.

Paris-Nice Stage 2
The second stage of the Paris-Nice, is a remarkably boring drawn out affair, no cobbles, no hills, just a likely sprint finish, after 195km of cycling for the riders sat at the start line, the day's talking point, were the new team helmets for Cyclings New Boys, Team Youtube Twitter, a lovely blue colour, very shiny Wink

Spoiler
i44.tinypic.com/m9vv9z.jpg

The race set off with a large group of riders breaking from the peloton, attacking away, and placing a large gap between themselves and the main group, Youtube had no representation up front, instead saving the riders for later in the day

Spoiler
i40.tinypic.com/zq3vq.jpg

Both of the days sprint checkpoints were uncontested, meaning with the points spread between riders of the leading pack, more interested in protecting the time gap, than tiring themselves with a competitive sprint this early in the day...

Spoiler
i44.tinypic.com/2dt4wwl.jpg

Liquigas, without represantation, and currently with control of the Yellow jersey, (Finetto having one yesterdays stage.) set up to pull at the front, and with out complaint, the front group were steadily reeled in, leading to the sprint finish veryone had been expecting from the start.

As such, the leadout team for Mike Pye began to assemble near the front of the pack, in preparation to do the main work of the day, pushing for a top 10 placing, (though secretly hoping for top 5) in the sprint finish.

Spoiler
i40.tinypic.com/wrkuq0.jpg

Youtube Twitter set up there train near the front, competition was rye, and it was setting up to be a deadly close finish, Pye on his train, Boonen on his wheel, Rojas on the Skil-Shimano train behing there sprinter Huguet, many riders seemed desparate to claim the stage, and the train were pushing an incredible pace.

Spoiler
i39.tinypic.com/27y7nrn.jpg

The Skil train launched first, but Movistar rider J.Rojas launced off there tail to pole position, could he cling on once the TYT train launched?

Chen, who had lead out slightly too far, found himself an obstacle, meaning Pye couldn't get protection from Alex Zhou during acceleration, still he kicked hard and jumped forward into first place, he was there it was his... but... TYT's Pro tour success would have to wait for another day, Mike Pye hadn't reckoned on the pace of Tom Boonen, who launched perfectly, flying past Pye, who was slowing from his early kick, only managing to claim 4th place, still a great result, but not exactly the one he was staring at with 250m to go.
