Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey - Stage 6

April 29, 2011

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Presidential%20Cycling%20Tour%20of%20Turkey/Stage%206/Profile.jpg

After a few hilly stages we get this tough "flat" stage.
Which sprinters will survive to the finish?

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Presidential%20Cycling%20Tour%20of%20Turkey/Stage%206/1.jpg

A large breakaway tries to get, and we go over the
first climb without any threat for Licina.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Presidential%20Cycling%20Tour%20of%20Turkey/Stage%206/2.jpg

And they do manage to pull out a lead.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Presidential%20Cycling%20Tour%20of%20Turkey/Stage%206/3.jpg

No interest in the sprint point, but we do see Dimitri Claeys
has made his way into the breakaway and just needs
5 points on the next climb to steal Licina's jersey.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Presidential%20Cycling%20Tour%20of%20Turkey/Stage%206/4.jpg

As he start that climb Martin is setting a high pace
to try and drop a few sprinters, or at least weaken them.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Presidential%20Cycling%20Tour%20of%20Turkey/Stage%206/5.jpg

Claeys does lead them over top and takes 6 points
and the jersey away from Licina.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Presidential%20Cycling%20Tour%20of%20Turkey/Stage%206/6.jpg

And soon after he is last man standing.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Presidential%20Cycling%20Tour%20of%20Turkey/Stage%206/7.jpg

Surprisingly quiet so far Rui Costa makes an attack after Claeys,
15kms to go.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Presidential%20Cycling%20Tour%20of%20Turkey/Stage%206/8.jpg

Both men are pulled back before the sprint point 9kms from the finish.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Presidential%20Cycling%20Tour%20of%20Turkey/Stage%206/9.jpg

Not much interest at all either,
everyone is saving their energy for the finish.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Presidential%20Cycling%20Tour%20of%20Turkey/Stage%206/10.jpg

A sight to see, the yellow jersey of Peraud is on the front
leading out Talansky.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Presidential%20Cycling%20Tour%20of%20Turkey/Stage%206/11.jpg

Cyril Lemoine and Jonas Aaen Jørgensen jump out
from the left side with 800 meters left.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Presidential%20Cycling%20Tour%20of%20Turkey/Stage%206/12.jpg

Lemoine just beats Jørgensen, Valentin Iglinskiy 3rd. And Andrew Talansky with another great effort to finish 4th. However we do have to mention the bad news, Licina loses the KoM jersey, Jonas Aaen Jørgensen moves into 2nd overall just 6 seconds behind Peraud, and Talansky drops to 6th overall with Cyril Lemoine jumping him with the finish bonus seconds. 2 stages to go.

Interview - Jean-Christophe Peraud

Q: 2 stages left, and just a 6 second lead. Can you hold on?
A: I think so, although the profiles of the last 2 stages get really mixed up as one is classified as flat but looks hilly, and the other is hilly but is virtually flat. So we will have to see how that works out.

Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey - Stage 7

April 30, 2011

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Presidential%20Cycling%20Tour%20of%20Turkey/Stage%207/Profile.jpg

Some strange features here on stage 7, to start it's classified as hilly.
Add to that a sprint point right before the finish line,
and the final KoM climb 5kms into the stage.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Presidential%20Cycling%20Tour%20of%20Turkey/Stage%207/1.jpg

For some reason our camera didn't work as we went over the climb. But we can tell you Licina lead everyone over and wins the KoM competition!

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Presidential%20Cycling%20Tour%20of%20Turkey/Stage%207/2.jpg

No one wants to waste their energy through both sprint points.
Why, because they have a 8 minute lead with just 40kms to go.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Presidential%20Cycling%20Tour%20of%20Turkey/Stage%207/3.jpg

Licina doesn't do much work today but does raise the tempo
anytime the road kicked up being the best climber in the group.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Presidential%20Cycling%20Tour%20of%20Turkey/Stage%207/4.jpg

And he causes some great damage to the breakaway,
they go from 12 men down to 6.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Presidential%20Cycling%20Tour%20of%20Turkey/Stage%207/5.jpg

15kms to go, the breakaway knows one of them are going to win the stage.
So everyone starts attacking each other, trying to create a gap.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Presidential%20Cycling%20Tour%20of%20Turkey/Stage%207/6.jpg

Licina opens up a 20 second lead ...

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Presidential%20Cycling%20Tour%20of%20Turkey/Stage%207/7.jpg

However, all 6 men are back together with 5kms to go.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Presidential%20Cycling%20Tour%20of%20Turkey/Stage%207/8.jpg

1km to go, Licina isn't the best sprinter in the group.
But is the most rested ...

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Presidential%20Cycling%20Tour%20of%20Turkey/Stage%207/9.jpg

Jimmy Licina wins his first stage of his young career!
Truly deserved after his efforts so far this year.
Plus you can't forget the KoM jersey either he
gets to claim after tomorrow's stage.
The peloton comes in 7'32" behind Licina,
without any attacks from the GC favourites.
So today really belongs to Licina without any distractions.

Interview - Jimmy Licina

Q: What a talent you are turning out to be. Congrats on your 1st win, what are thinking right now?
A: This is crazy, I never want to forget this feeling. And I guess it's time to party with the team now ...
Q: Don't party to hard, there is still one more stage tomorrow. And Peraud only leads by 6 seconds.
A: I guess we will have to push back the celebration to tomorrow night then.

Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey - Stage 8

May 1, 2011

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Presidential%20Cycling%20Tour%20of%20Turkey/Stage%208/Profile.jpg

A flat stage with a finish circuit with a tough climb is all that's left for
Peraud to finish off the tour and hopefully hang on to his overall lead.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Presidential%20Cycling%20Tour%20of%20Turkey/Stage%208/1.jpg

Daniel Martin tries to get into the breakaway today,
along with pretty much everybody else after what happened yesturday.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Presidential%20Cycling%20Tour%20of%20Turkey/Stage%208/2.jpg

But the peloton isn't having any of it.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Presidential%20Cycling%20Tour%20of%20Turkey/Stage%208/3.jpg

But by the sprint point a breakaway does get away, Martin stays back to help the team now.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Presidential%20Cycling%20Tour%20of%20Turkey/Stage%208/4.jpg

We hit the climb for the first time, the roads are steep and narrow.
How in the world is this a flat stage?

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Presidential%20Cycling%20Tour%20of%20Turkey/Stage%208/5.jpg

Fast forward to the third time up the climb,
Martin and Licina are setting a hard tempo.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Presidential%20Cycling%20Tour%20of%20Turkey/Stage%208/6.jpg

Strange to see a sprint point at the top, but whatever.
It almost seems normal considering this is a "flat" stage.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Presidential%20Cycling%20Tour%20of%20Turkey/Stage%208/7.jpg

Here we go, the final time up the climb.
Peraud and Talansky attack off the front.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Presidential%20Cycling%20Tour%20of%20Turkey/Stage%208/8.jpg

But they are pulled back along with the rest of the breakaway.
Talansky leads them over top. And if my eyes are correct,
both Jonas Aaen Jørgensen and Bert De Waele are still in the lead group. Peraud hasn't won this yet ...

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Presidential%20Cycling%20Tour%20of%20Turkey/Stage%208/9.jpg

Peraud is trying everything now, but it doesn't seem to be working.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Presidential%20Cycling%20Tour%20of%20Turkey/Stage%208/10.jpg

200 meters to go, Cyril Lemoine leads the way. Jørgensen is in 2nd!
Peraud can't watch ...

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Presidential%20Cycling%20Tour%20of%20Turkey/Stage%208/11.jpg

And that's how they finish. Peraud loses the tour on the last stage to Jørgensen. The team is in shock, how in the world did Jonas have the much energy left after EA-Sony pushed the tempo hard up that climb? Lost for words ... so I guess the only thing we can do is point out the positive results from this tour. 2nd and 6th overall, 2 stage wins, 2nd best young rider, and winner of the king of mountains. Put it like that and it makes the tour not look like a disaster.

Interview - Jean-Christophe Peraud

Q: Not the finish EA-Sony and their fans were looking for, what happened?
A: We just couldn't drop the sprinters on the climb, and when you have a flat run in the sprinters are going to take it home. Not much more the team could have done today, I guess it wasn't meant to be.

4 flat stages with a tough cobbled climb circuit on stage 4.
So is it going to be a sprinter or a climber that wins this tour?

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%201/1.jpg

Breakaways are finding it hard to get away.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%201/2.jpg

Lofkvist and Larsson lead over the first climb after
chasing down a few breakaway attempts.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%201/3.jpg

Larsson again is right there on the 2nd climb,
giving him the KoM jersey tomorrow.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%201/4.jpg

After the climbs EA-Sony lets up on the tempo
and allows a breakaway to form.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%201/5.jpg

These four men make it to the final sprint point, but are pulled back a few kilometers late. We will get the bunch sprint ...

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%201/6.jpg

Disaster strikes for EA-Sony,
Lofkvist clips Cozza wheel and they both go down ...

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%201/7.jpg

And this starts a chain reaction, riders can't avoid it.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%201/8.jpg

Back up front, there is no time to think about the crashes.
Andrew Talansky sits third wheel with 1.5kms to go.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%201/9.jpg

A new train forms on the left,
Talansky sticks on Sébastien Chavanel wheel though.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%201/10.jpg

Chavanel now kicks and they fly by the train on the left.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%201/11.jpg

Talansky launches now ...

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%201/12.jpg

Could it be?

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%201/13.jpg

Andrew Talansky wins his first stage here with EA-Sony Ericsson!

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%201/14.jpg

Lofkvist comes in at +1'39".

Interview - Andrew Talansky

Q: Licina and now you. Great victory, should this be a sign for how the rest of this tour could go?
A: Maybe, but a few sprinters got caught by the crash and there was a lot of confusion up front. So if we get a clean sprint the results might be different.

Just caught up with your story and was so mad to find out that Peraud lost out on the Presidential Tour of Turkey on the final stage, what a bummerFrown

But at least Lucina won the K.O.M ClassificationWink

And a nice start to the 5 Jours de Dunkerque with the stage win for TalanskySmile

@sutty68 Yeah I kinda had a lot of free time this weekend, might be the most reports I have put out in a 7 day span while writing stories. Grin And their happened to be a quite a few nice results in there as well, which is always nice. Getting ever closer back into the promotion picture. Cool

In Turkey, you were unlucky to lose the lead in the last stage. :/
In France, another great start for your team, hopefuly you can win this time. Pfft

5 Jours de Dunkerque - Stage 2

May 5, 2011

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%202/Profile.jpg

With Talansky in yellow, lets go at it again.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%202/1.jpg

The climb 7kms in goes to a group of non-threating breakaway riders.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%202/2.jpg

You can spot the Swedish RR champ Lofkvist
in the breakaway after losing time after his crash yesturday.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%202/3.jpg

When they get pulled back, they go again.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%202/4.jpg

This time they get away, Lofkvist has no interest in sprinting.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%202/5.jpg

But does at the KoM climb, and takes the jersey away from Larsson.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%202/6.jpg

Then he decides to go solo ... they are only halfway through the stage.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%202/7.jpg

He is still gone by the next sprint point, but his lead is slowly dropping.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%202/8.jpg

Two breakaway riders pass him by the the last checkpoint on today's route.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%202/9.jpg

And then when everyone thought we would get an easy finish,
another crash. This time EA-Sony is lucky and stays out of trouble.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%202/10.jpg

The breakaway is right there to be caught with 3.9kms left ...

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%202/11.jpg

But the peloton just couldn't close it down. Víctor De la Parte is today's winner. And with everyone in the breakaway a minute plus back on overall,
Talansky keeps his yellow jersey for tomorrow.

Interview - Thomas Lofkvist

Q: Do you regret going solo now that your breakaway partners took the stage?
A: Not at all, I wasn't going to beat those guys in a sprint, so I took my chances and it didn't work out for me. However in the big picture of things this breakaway win really helps Talansky cause.

5 Jours de Dunkerque - Stage 3

May 6, 2011

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%203/Profile.jpg

Talansky gets another day to ride yellow,
and can he do the same for tomorrow?

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%203/1.jpg

The theme so far after two stages has been
breakaways, crashes, and bunch sprints.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%203/2.jpg

Steven Cozza gets the nod from the team to get in the morning breakaway.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%203/3.jpg

However they are struggling to produce any major gap.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%203/4.jpg

And everyone is caught a third way through the stage.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%203/5.jpg

But that just leads to more attacks, Lofkvist goes clear now.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%203/6.jpg

And he is trying everything defend his KoM jersey
from Vladimir Efimkin and Daniel Navarro.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%203/7.jpg

Each climb is battle, Lofkvist is having problems matching the acceleration.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%203/8.jpg

Now just a little bit past halfway these 5 riders
have opened up a 4 minute lead.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%203/9.jpg

At the final KoM climb of the day, Lofkvist gets to keep his jersey with a total of 14 points. Efimkin and Navarro rack up 11 points each.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%203/10.jpg

The last checkpoint on the route, there is lead is hovering at 2 minutes.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%203/11.jpg

Rabobank controls this stage perfectly
and the breakaway is pulled back with 8kms to go.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%203/12.jpg

Larsson and Talansky hook onto the left train,
Rabobank and Matti Breschel lead the right train.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%203/13.jpg

The pure sprinters won't like this kick up towards the finish.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%203/14.jpg

Talansky is coming hard on the left, but does he have enough time?

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%203/15.jpg

Nope, Breshel holds everyone off for the win. Talansky claims a top 5
and even though him and Matti are tied at top the standing,
Andrew gets to keep the yellow jersey for tomorrow.

Interview - Tejay Van Garderen

Q: The queen stage of the tour is finally here, who is the captain of this team heading into tomorrow?
A: I think we are going to go with a duel leaderships role with Talansky and Larsson, then myself and Lofkvist are going to be wildcards. The cobbles are going to tear me apart, but I'm ready for the challenge.

5 Jours de Dunkerque - Stage 4

May 7, 2011

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%204/Profile.jpg

Yesturday's winner Matti Breschel is the clearly favourite today.
EA Sony looks forward to the hills, but the cobbles on the other hand
could cause major problems.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%204/1.jpg

Very large breakaways try to get away early,
Larsson follows team orders in brings everyone back.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%204/2.jpg

But there they go again. So if we can't beat them, we better join them.
Tejay Van Garderen gets to see his first action of the tour.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%204/3.jpg

We hit the cobbles for the first team, the lead is 3 minutes.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%204/4.jpg

The cobbles combined with very narrow roads depletes the peloton,
Lofkvist missed the split.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%204/5.jpg

Tejay is having problems recovering from the cobbles.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%204/6.jpg

While at the other end of the race Lofkvist is
weaving through groups trying make his way back to the front.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%204/7.jpg

The cobbles claim their first victim, flat tire Jimmy Casper.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%204/8.jpg

Then all of a sudden we hit a stable point in the race with 91kms to go.
The breakaway gets pulled back and Lofkvist
along with many others are able to catch back up.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%204/9.jpg

But ofcourse that doesn't last long, here we go again.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%204/10.jpg

Nope just kidding, Rabobank wouldn't let Tejay
get away again this late into the race.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%204/11.jpg

Then the unthinkable happens, Talansky gets a flat!
But no worries, he rejoins the front group.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%204/12.jpg

Vladimir Efimkin and Daniel Navarro battle it out of more KoM points,
Lofkvist is going to lose his jersey today.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%204/13.jpg

Talansky doesn't want to lose his jersey as well,
and picks up a few bonus seconds.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%204/14.jpg

With still 3 cricuits to go, Geert Verheyen goes off solo.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%204/15.jpg

2 laps to go and Matti Breschel makes his move!

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%204/16.jpg

EA-Sony are throwing all their men to the front,
Talansky attacks after Breschel on the non-cobbled climb, 8kms to go.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%204/17.jpg

Talansky and Verheyen are caught right before
the final time up the cobbles.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%204/18.jpg

Christophe Kern makes the opening move.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%204/19.jpg

1km to go, Breschel attacks off the road.
Talansky and Larsson can't get around Verheyen!

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%204/20.jpg

Breschel overtakes Kern for the stage and Talansky for GC.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%204/21.jpg

Sebastian Langeveld makes it a 1-3 for Rabobank.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%204/22.jpg

Then over 45 seconds later comes Larsson (4th), Talansky (6th), and Lofkvist (11th). Key time lost, but overall it was to be expected.

Interview - Andrew Talansky

Q: I very entertaining stage for the fans, how would you describe the action?
A: True racing, this is what cycling is all about. I'm happy with my result, and how the team performed today. Matti was going to be tough to beat today, and we gave him everything we had. So congrats to him.

Breschel just had to spoil the party didn't heSad

Avin Wargunnson
Good result considering the cobbles on the last stage. Two in the top 10 and Talansky finally realising that he is a sprinter Smile

5 Jours de Dunkerque - Stage 5

May 8, 2011

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%205/Profile.jpg

An easy flat to finish the tour.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%205/1.jpg

The final climb goes to the early breakaway,
meaning Vladimir Efimkin wins that competition.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%205/2.jpg

With the rain coming down he get our first crash, breakaway rider Romain Bacon. Although it looks more like careless riding than wet road that caused Bacon to hit the side of the overpass.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%205/3.jpg

Steven Cozza is one of the 13 breakaway riders.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%205/4.jpg

But they can only max out a 4 minute gap.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%205/5.jpg

As the peloton slowly reels them back, a few riders try to bridge the gap.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%205/6.jpg

At the final sprint point there lead is just two minutes.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%205/7.jpg

The final breakaway man is caught with 8kms to go.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%205/8.jpg

Talansky looks good heading towards the finish.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%205/9.jpg

Aidis Kruopis leads them towards the line, Talansky kicks,
Matti Breschel is trapped in on the far left.

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/5%20Jours%20de%20Dunkerque/Stage%205/10.jpg

Kruopis just holds off a charging Talansky,
but with Breschel blocked in finishing 11th,
Andrew Talansky wins the points competition.
The good news doesn't stop there,
Sebastian Langeveld 3rd overall misses a strangle split in the peloton
and both Talansky and Larsson move into 3rd and 4th in GC respectively.
Wait not done yet, Langeveld's miscue costs
Rabobank the team competition as well.
So EA-Sony wins that as well. A sloppy final stage for Rabobank
gives EA-Sony some nice prizes.

Interview - Andrew Talansky

Q: Just couldn't close down the gap to finish the tour like you started it, are you pleased with the results here in France?
A: Yeah, why not. I got my first win and the team performed as expected as well. You can't win every tour, and when that happens these results don't look to bad either.

Giro d'Italia Summary: Week 1

i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff456/mresuperstar3/Giro/logo.jpg

Preview

Historically, the Giro rides in the shadows of the Tour de France. But for many, it is considered the harder Grand Tour. The Italian landscape is simply more consistently hilly. And this year’s race, which has been called “savage,” is one of the most daunting in recent history with eight mountain stages.

The race starts in the northern industrial city of Torino with a team time trial, before edging down the western coastline to rustic Sicily. It then moves up the coast of the Adriatic Sea with one last fling in the Dolomites and Alps before finishing in Milan for its traditional finish.

The second half of the race promises to be lethal, with a mountaintop finish on the epic Monte Zoncolan and a rare dirt road finale to Sestriere. But already on stage seven, barely a week into the race, riders tackle their first mountaintop finish, with the 17-kilometer climb to Montevergine di Mercogliano. And then just two days later they climb up two sides of the Mont Etna volcano for a relatively short but intense day of climbing in Sicily.
