No breakaway
He was always in the first group and attacked on the final climbs. 2-3 times every stage until he created a gap. So his win is really deserved.
Cunego and him were the only one, who were always in the first group. But on one stage Cataldo had a little advantages in the end and on the other one it was Cunego.

Ok sry, my fault. It seems that he had developed well. |

"The Spring classic" or "La classicissima" is the first monument of the season. It`s the longest professional cycling race with 298km.
It`s normally a classic for the sprinters but also there is the chance for attacks on the last two harder climbs: The Cipressa and the Poggio.
Record winner is Eddy Merckx with 7 victories.
Result in 2010:
1 | Fabian Cancellara | Team Saxo Bank | 2 | Filippo Pozzato | Team Katusha | 3 | Daniele Bennati | Liquigas-Doimo | 4 | Óscar Freire Gómez | Rabobank | 5 | Ryder Hesjedal | Garmin - Transitions | 6 | Philippe Gilbert | Omega Pharma-Lotto | 7 | Jose Joaquin Rojas Gil | Caisse d`Epargne | 8 | Alessandro Petacchi | Lampre-Farnese Vini | 9 | Matti Breschel | Team Saxo Bank | 10 | Jens Voigt | Team Saxo Bank |
Garmin squad:
Our captains are Farrar, Hesjedal, Sanchez and Vansummeren. It depends on their daily form, their fitness level is between 83 and 93.
Especially Sanchez and Hesjedal were in a good shape in the last two races and Hesjedal really wants to repeat his good result from 2010.

In general all hilly sprinters have good chances today. Also we musn`t forget riders like Cancellara or Gilbert. Last year Cancellara attacked on the Poggio together with Pozzato and Hesjedal. Except of Hesjedal they came through, just Hesjedal was caught 5m to the line by the first 2 sprinters.

Milano-San Remo
Lots of attacks in the first 90 minutes of the race. As if it was a short race some teams did a incredible high pace. So it lasts 82km until 3 riders had a successful attack. Smukulis (Ag2r), Drujon (Caisse) and the only Italian Dario Cataldo (Quickstep).
He would have been a good alternative to Chavanel or Devolder for a late attack, but obviously they will ride for Tom Boonen and so they can save energy.
Especially HTC, Liquigas and surprisingly Bbox are doing the pace in the peloton. As they don`t have a real sprinter here they will probably attack with Voeckler or Fedrigo later.
The 3 riders in front reach the tunnel on the "Passio del Turchino" with 4'40 advantage.
Looking on our daily form I almost fall from my seat. Except of Murilo Fischer (+5) everybody else has a negative form or 0.
Farrar (-3), Hesjedal (-1), Sanchez (-2) and Vansummeren (0).
Absolutely awful conditions today.
The "La Manie" is the first steeper climb today. Cataldo creates a small gap, but no problem for the others to close it on the descent again.
So they are going into the last third now with 5'00.
90% of the pace is done by HTC. Greipel and Cavendish aren`t the best hilly sprinters but obviously they are feeling very good. Immediately the advantage is going down on just 2'00.
As expected the breakaway had no chance. Already 58km to the line they caught them. Now the race begins again and the hardest parts are still in front of us.
First attack of a favourite. Matti Breschel is it on the 45km mark. Or is it just a tactic for Cancellara?
Breschel is caught on the "Capo Berta" and now with 30km to go and already before the Cipressa Cancellara is attacking. The winner of 2008 and 2010 is followed by Ballan, Flecha and Devolder.
But it`s just Cancellara reaching the Cipressa with 29s to the peloton. It`s still a long way and the group behind him is very strong. Last year he attacked just 10km to the line. Can he repeat it with this early attack?
Climbing the Cipressa Farrar is falling back. He is together with Vaitkus, Wynants and Goss.
On top of the Cipressa also Hesjedal, last year`s 5th, is falling back with a bigger group. Surprisingly all HTC riders and some other great riders are there, too. Greipel, Cavendish, Martin, McEwen, Patacchi, Cunego to call just some of them. So our 2nd option falls back als also Sanchez and Vansummeren had quite big troubles climbing the Cipressa.
Just amazing how Cancellara is flying away from everyone else.
With 1'19 he starts the final climb, the "Poggio". It really looks like his 3rd career win here.
Sanchez and Vansummeren did it into the first group behind him, but unfortunately there are lots of better sprinters and so it looks really bad for them. Cancellara increased the gap on more than 2 minutes during the climb...
...and so he can celebrate again. An amazing 30km solo ride by him. Of course he is the big favourite for the coming cobbled races, too.
The group is led by Bennati and Haussler. Vansummeren as 26th was our best rider. Not the best day for us. But also HTC and Bbox, who did the pace for a long time had no one in this first group. (Greipel and Cavendish sprinted in this group again, doesn`t really count)

Wow tough race for you here roturn. That attack by Cancellara was ridiculous! Makes me feel embarressed that I couldn't do something with Cancellara in my one (well he did get daily form -5!).
We await a decent Milan SanRemo story win! |

Maybe I buy him next year just to win this race one time in career mode.
In single race mode I was 1st with Cancellara, 2nd with F.Schleck and 3rd with Voigt on hard after attacking on Cipressa with Schleck and Voigt and Cance on the Poggio. But doesn`t work in career mode for me ;( |

MSR is one of the hardest races in carreer mode for me. Probably because of the length. For some reason, my best rider never gets in a good position for the sprint. If he does, PCM is sure to screw me (either by a gamecrash, or a sprintbug).
I won it 2 times with a custom team. Once with Ginanni in a sprint where the peleton split, and there were only 2 favorites in the front group. Second time, i attacked with Gusev (+4 daily form) after the Cipressa, and to my surprise i managed to stay away.
But hey, it's only classic. You can still win the rest .

Indeed. My goal is to win at least one monument. This one was probably the hardest one for me.
Than RVV, PR, LBL, Lombardia.
Cobbled just because of Cance and LBL with a 78 hill could be hard.

The race is held since 1911 and is most times dominated by Spanish cyclists.
Next to the Vuelta a Pais Vasco it`s one of the most important regional races in Spain.
Record winner is Mariano Cañardo with seven wins between 1928 and 1939.
Result in 2010:

S: Kim Kirchen Team Katusha
KoM: Björn Schröder Team Milram
U25: Jan Bakelants Omega Pharma-Lotto
David Millar was wearing the leader jersey after the prologue and just lost it to Kirchen by 3s because of bonus seconds.
It was a nice fight between both of them.
While most of the top10 riders are also there in 2011, Millar will miss here.
Garmin squad:
Kessiakoff will be our leader for this race. Also Trent Lowe can ride on his own in most situations. So a top 3 will be quite hard without a very good prologue result but we definitely want a top 10 here.
We don`t have a very good sprinter here as most stages aren`t really flat and so Fischer will be our man for a good sprint result.
Our great danish talent Dao will get some more experience before he will become an excellent sprinter in the next years.

Volta Ciclista a Catalunya - Stage 1 (Prologue)
Lloret de Mar - Lloret de Mar
A very short but also a bit hilly prologue. So it`s not just the prologue ability today. Also good puncheurs and especially riders in a great shape will have chances.
But of course biggest favourite is Tony Martin.
Danny Pate was starting quite early. But our best time trialist here showed a good performance and so he was 1st when he arrived. But the best riders will come later of course.
José Iván Gutiérrez wants to repeat his top 10 result and he is beating Pate by 8 seconds.
Incredible. When will this guy become tired? He was active since end of January until now and was always very successful so far.
And even in this prologue he is the 2nd now with 2sec behind Gutiérrez.
Nice prologue by Kessiakoff. A very good top 10 result with just 7 seconds to Gutiérrez and many better prologue riders are already in.
Also he is 1sec faster than Pate, our hope for todays stage.
There the big favourite for the stage win is coming. It looks so easy and in the end he is even 9 sec faster than Gutiérrez and takes the win.
Kessiakoff finishes 10th and just Martin, Nibali and Leipheimer as TT specialists are in front of him. Menchov, Basso, Kreuziger and Porte aren`t in absolutely top form obviously.

@ Janne I was also surprised but it was similar last year. Many riders use it as preparation and so Millar was able with mo71, hi74 to be 2nd with +3.
So Kessiakoff is much better on mo and hi but if it is like last year than it`S hard to win seconds on other 72+ hilly riders.
Will play the stages maybe today and the next days. |

Good start. Kessiakoff is a rider to do a top-10 in Catalunya. |
