@Pellizotti2
Well, he had a bit luck with the sprint last stage, but he never lost time in the other stages, though he had to help Vinokourov. He can be happy.

Depart in Civitanova Marche.

img684.imageshack.us/img684/5900/k2pcm0002.jpg
3 early attackers (including Haimar Zubeldia) came away, 10 other (including Richie Porte, Rubens Bertogliatti, Giampaolo Cheula) attack later and catch the other.
Haimar Zubeldia (RadioShack) 5
Gorka Izagirre (Euskaltel) 3
Rubens Bertogliati (Androni) 1

Kristof Goddaert also accelerated in the pack, but he is too late and ride now between the breakaway and the pack.

Now at the circuit in San Benedetto. The peloton, more precisely Colombia, Lampre, Liquigas and Katusha, work against them, just 2'28" left.
Haimar Zubeldia (RadioShack) 5
Volodymyr Zagorodny (Miche) 3
Thomas Bertolini (Androni) 2

It seems that we will see a masssprint in the finish, most in the break already give up, just a few attacker try a last time to get away.

No chance for the breakaway.

img177.imageshack.us/img177/5046/k2pcm0008.jpg
4600m before the finish. The sprinter try to get in position for the sprint.

img268.imageshack.us/img268/5137/k2pcm0009.jpg
The sprint begin! McEwen and Napolitano lead the pack, on the right we can see Chicchi, Benatti, Davis and Hunter. Rosseler, Vaitkus and Steegmans are covered by Martens and Paolini left.

img69.imageshack.us/img69/6140/k2pcm0010.jpg
It does not look to good for us. As Vaitkus started to accelerate, Gert was at his backwheel, but he gets tired even before Vaitkus, so he just try to get a wheel from one of the better sprinter in front. So no chance for a good place today. Petacchi, Freire and Cavendish in front, all with the same speed. They fight today for the stage win.

img529.imageshack.us/img529/5613/k2pcm0011.jpg
Bennati, Davis and Napolitano came with high speed from behind but were probably too late for grab the stage win. Freire got slow, so just Cav and Petacchi can get the victory.

img232.imageshack.us/img232/9766/k2pcm0012.jpg
But Cavendish was not able to pass Petacchi, so Alessandro win today. Steegmans finished 9th, of course a disappointing result because he is in shape.

Well, I would lie if I say that I am happy about the overall, but after the first two stages, I had never thought that Klöden would be able to make a Top20. The GC show, it was a duel from Vino and Cunego, with a shade win for the little prince.

Points:

Maybe a consolation for the Kazakh

I think this picture show how the rider from Astana feel: 2nd, 3rd and 11th in the overall, but not the first place, they are disappointed.

(Found no logo)
Milan – San Remo (Italian: Milano–Sanremo), "the Spring classic" ("la classica di Primavera"Wink, is an annual cycle race between Milan and Sanremo. It is the longest professional one-day race at 298 km. The first was in 1907, when Lucien Petit-Breton won. Today it is one of the 'Monuments' of European cycling, and results contribute towards the UCI World Ranking; until 2007 it was part of the UCI ProTour.
Milan – San Remo is often called the sprinters' classic while its sister Italian race the Giro di Lombardia held in autumn is the climbers' classic. (wikipedia.com)
The most succesfull rider here is Eddy Merckx, who won seven times here.

The Shack: Who else could be our leader here as our sprint specialist Gert Steegmans? Vaitkus and Rosseler support him. Daryl Impey is also here, he has a higher hill stat than Steegmans and is the Co-Leader. Horner and Paulinho make today their first race day, i do not expect anything from then, both will also race the Vuelta Ciclista a Catalunya at the End of March. Selander and Bewley are helper today.

The opposition: Strong startlist, but just as expected. Who is there? There are Óscar Freire and Alessandro Petacchi, stage winner of Tirreno-Adriatico. There is Tom Boonen, stage winner of Paris-Nice. Marc Cavendish, winner here 2009, and second in the last stage of Tirreno-Adriatico. This four guys are the top favourites here. Also Allan Davis (Stage win Vuelta a Andalucia), Edvald Boasson Hagen (5th GC Tour of Oman, 7th GC Tour of Qatar), Daniele Bennati (2nd Stage 3 Tirreno-Adriatico), Tyler Farrar and Robbie McEwen (both with no victories). And of course we do not underestimate the Co-leader of a few teams, André Greipel (also no important results) and Francesco Chicchi (2 stage wins Tour of Oman). Sorry for all the Hushovd-Fans, Cervélo did not get a wildcard.

Milano - San Remo, 293,3 km
img203.imageshack.us/img203/9876/milanosanremo.jpg
I think you know the profile. At the half of the race, the rider reach the Passo di Turchini, a long, but not steep hill. Le Mànie (4,7km, 6,9%) after 200km is the first hard hill, but if the speed is not to high, the sprinter should survive here. At the last 30km the Cipressa (5,8 km, 3,6%) and the Poggio di Sanremo (3,8 km, 3,3%). Just rider in shape could survive her and sprint for the win.

Team goals:
- Top 10 (Steegmans)

Favourites: Mark Cavendish, Alessandro Petacchi, Tom Boonen, Óscar Freire, Tyler Farrar.
My tip: Just as usual. Mark Cavendish.

Benvenuti in Milano, the Start of the prestigous sprint classic Milano - San Remo.

img264.imageshack.us/img264/5900/k2pcm0002.jpg
There were many attackers, even Ryder Hesjedal and Damiano Cunego (actually the protour leader) attack. But always Lampre, Rabobank or Colombia started to push the peloton.

img253.imageshack.us/img253/4479/k2pcm0003.jpg
After 80 kilometer, we can see who is in the break of the day. Most prominent are Danilo Hondo, Geraint Thomas and Bram Tankink. RadioShack send Bjorn Selander.

img59.imageshack.us/img59/9122/k2pcm0004.jpg
Here at the descent of the Passo del Turchino. The pack is 4 minutes down.

img85.imageshack.us/img85/2259/k2pcm0005.jpg
Le Mànie, a small but steep hill. Lampre and Rabobank work hard now to catch the front group.

Still over 60km to go, but Leif Hoste seems not to be interest in that fact and attack.

img408.imageshack.us/img408/1475/k2pcm0007.jpg
A little proof of the hard work from the hard work of Lampre and Rabobank. The break split fast now, Bewley can not hold contact.
P; -1'10" Merlo; 4'21 E1

A little overview over the race with 40km to go.
E1; P +3'05"

img838.imageshack.us/img838/5137/k2pcm0009.jpg
The peloton can see now the breakaway, and Cancellara, Gilbert, Vinokourov and Devolder decide that its time to attack.

img641.imageshack.us/img641/6140/k2pcm0010.jpg
But their attack failed, so another try from Cancellara, Boonen and Boasson Hagen! Bad news for RadioShack. All helper from Steegmans fall back or almost lost contact. Can he survive the Cipressa and the Poggio alone?
P; -22" Tankink, Gérard, Gavazzi, Thomas; -43" Roulsten

img218.imageshack.us/img218/5613/k2pcm0011.jpg
Roulsten, Tankink, Gérard, Gavazzi and Thomas are caught, now we came in the exiting phase of the race. At the top of the Cipressa, Steegmans seems tired. Can he stay in the pack?

img820.imageshack.us/img820/9766/k2pcm0012.jpg
Nope. At the downhill, he could recover a bit, but the gap was already open. Too late for him (and he is not the only one: McEwen, Farrar, Cavendish and Napolitano are also in A1), the winner will be in the front group, one of these 44 rider (including Boonen, Freire, Petacchi, Davis, Bennati, Boasson Hagen and Breschel).

img24.imageshack.us/img24/8837/k2pcm0013.jpg
Oh no. At the start of the poggio, a crash in the peloton! Included are Linus Gerdemann, Vincenzo Nibali, Enrico Gasparotto and the sprint specialists Anthony Geslin and Matti Breschel. Bad luck, specially for Geslin and Breschel.

img138.imageshack.us/img138/6985/k2pcm0014.jpg
AND CRASH OF A FAVOURITE! The rain bring Benatti to fall. Too bad, he survive both hills and then crashing in the descent... If they are not too tired from the Poggio, Alessandro Petacchi, Tom Boonen, Óscar Freire, Allan Davis and Edvald Boasson Hagen should clearly be the favourites now.Or can a sprint-puncheur like Fabian Cancellara, Filippo Pozatto or Kim Kirchen grab the win?

img227.imageshack.us/img227/3799/k2pcm0015.jpg
Slvain Chavanel opens the final sprint! Vinokourov at his backwheel. Best postioned RadioShack rider is still Gert Steegmans in the third group. Maybe more interesting: Most of the topsprinter here are just in the back of the group!

img189.imageshack.us/img189/9707/k2pcm0016.jpg
Just 1600m to go! Vinokourov now accelerating and leaving the backwheel from Chavanel. Both have a good advantage for the other. Is it to late for one of the sprinter? Boonen and Freire still at the back, and the other also just in the middle of the front group.

img190.imageshack.us/img190/7869/k2pcm0017.jpg
Flame rouge. And now Alessandro Petacchi accelerate, the australian champ Allan Davis at his backwheel! Can he pass Vino and Chavanel?

img196.imageshack.us/img196/4673/k2pcm0018.jpg
Boasson Hagen also came to the front, but to late for the win. He and Cancellara sprint for place 5. At the top, we can see how close it will be end Vino, Petacchi or even Davis who leave Petacchis backwheel and make his move?

img26.imageshack.us/img26/2237/k2pcm0019.jpg
And Alexandre Vinokourov win! The old sprint bug stopped Alessandro Petacchi, who finished second.

img51.imageshack.us/img51/5540/k2pcm0020.jpg
Steegmans came in at the front of the second group. Place 39 at the end.

Steegmans is not already in a level 6-shape, but I had expected that he could hold himself in the front group. Bad luck.
For Vinokourov maybe a compensation for the second in T-A. I had not expected him as winner here. Also Chavanel as 3rd.

Damn sprint bug. It's very irritating. What's irritating too is Shack's bad luck. Sad

Classic Milan San Remo there. Steegmans was always going to find it difficult to survive the final climbs.

But great efforts to try and turn this stage racing squad into a credible classic squad. Not quite there yet, though Steegmans may fare better in Gent Wegulum!

roturn
I never win MSR with a sprinter. The last 2 hills always kill mine. So I take a good hilly rider and attack there, In my 2010 season Farrar was like Steegmans here. This season I will take him in my squad but also some better hilly riders.

Yeah I always try to win it in a sprint, but it never works out and I end up attacking on the final hill and winning, usually with Ballan on Lampre, in the older games.

Long live Ginanni Pfft. Only sprinter i managed to win MSR with. Mostly due to his high hill stat though.

Vino did surprise me, in my carreers he came close, but always had a logical winner like Cancellara, Petacchi, Boonen, ...

I almost won with Gasparotto once. But he lost to Friere.

Congrats to all which has ever won M-SR with a sprinter Wink I never had Sad
Really bad luck this time (and my fault that I did not take a puncheur in my squad), but Steegmans is in shape and I am looking forward where he can place himself in Gent-Wevelgem and the other cobble classics.

@FreitasPCM
Yeah, I want install Patch 1.0.4.1. but when I had to start a new carrier (or not?)
I hope it is the last time with the bad luck Wink Steegmans is in shape, he will show what he can in the cobble classics in late March/April.

@Smowz
Thank you Grin I am looking forward for Gent-Wevelgem, Steegmans should be able to make a Top10 (maybe Top5 in a masssprint) there.

@roturn/valverde321
Neither I had win M-SR with a sprinter. I always give it a try, but it never succeeded. But it was also my fault that I had not any good puncheur in my squad. Maybe than i should also be able to attack on the poggio.

@Kami
I were also surprised. I think he had a full red fillet and then he had luck and catch the right backwheel (Chavanel). A typical PCM-result, I think he never will irl. But he seems prepared for the classics in April!

If you started your career with patch 1.0.3.0 then you can install 1.0.4.1 over it without restarting your career. Just copy the local.cdb again.
But in 1.0.4.1 the sprint "bug" is still there. They fixed it with 1.0.4.2 but then the sprint doesn`t work at all Grin
But as long as this "bug" is just an animation bug and not something that destroys realistic results it`s okay for me.

Tuco the Ugly
I've never won MSR in any PCM Sad

I always either don't follow the right attack and miss out on the crucial move, or follow the wrong attack and am out of energy at the sprint.

janne_837
@roturn
OK, then I will install Patch 1.0.4.1. after hearing that 1.0.4.2. sucks.

@Tuco the Ugly
MSR seems to be really hard in PCM... My last win there was in PCM 2009 after a great attack with Cancellara at the Poggio.

@All
Before I want to continue here, I have an important question: I have planed with a four-day-trainingcamp in Geraardsbergen for my cobble specialists. What do you think, are trainingcamps to much cheating? I still can cancel the camp.
Edited by janne_837 on 25-10-2010 15:41

Smowz
janne: Personally, I find training camps inflate stats too much. They are a nice idea but often change things in the players favour too much. I don't mind pre season training so much it seems more logical and less game breaking.

Then again you are playing as Radioshack Smile

Grin Because of that, I just use short trainingcamps to increase just a bit. But I do not will use training camps in the story if you find it is cheating.

janne_837
Just decided to cancel the training camp. I should also be able to get good results on the cobble classics without that Grin

Volta Ciclista a Catalunya
img94.imageshack.us/img94/9753/voltacatalunya.png
The Volta a Catalunya is a popular road bicycle race held annually in Catalonia, Spain. It is a part of the UCI ProTour programme, ranking only second behind the Vuelta a España in popularity for Spain. Due to its place in the riding calendar (after the Giro d'Italia), it was long viewed as an important Tour de France preparation race for cyclists. After the inauguration of the ProTour, the race moved to May, making it an alternative for the Giro. This didn't prove to be a successful change, and for the 2010 season, the race organisation announced a move to late March, the date formerly held by another Catalan stage race, the Setmana Catalana. The first edition was held in January and lasted for three days. (wikipedia.com)

The Shack: We have no really leader here, but the only stage race rider with a shape over 80 here are Yaroslav Popovych and Haimar Zubeldia, so they will probably our leaders. Chris Horner should build up his form for the hilly classics in april here, we have not to expect much from him, also like Sergio Paulinho. For the two sprint stages, we have Daryl Impey here. "Chechu" Rubiera, Matthew Busche and Markel Irizar are helper.

The opposition: A pretty weak startlist! Maybe my first GC-Win on hard? Main opponents should be Bradley Wiggins (but I have not see him take part anywhere, so he should be not in shape), Marco Pinotti, Vasil Kiryienka, Richie Porte and Benat Intxausti (Top 10 P-N).
In the sprints, I count on the Haedo brothers, Chris Sutton, Aitor Galdos, Graeme Brown and Yauheni Hutarovich.

Prologue: Lloret de Mar - Lloret de Mar, 4,5 km
img225.imageshack.us/img225/2020/catalunyastage1.jpg
A short prologue. Nothing more to say.

Team goals:
- Top 5 (Popovych)
- Top 10 (Horner)
- Top 20 (Paulinho, Zubeldia)

Favourites: Bradley Wiggins, Yaroslav Popovych, Linus Gerdemann, Benat Intxausti, Xavier Tondo.
My tip: Even if he is not in shape, Wiggins is the only time trial specialist here and should win.

Smowz
I think you have real chance with Popo here - though it may come down to who can sprint for the bonifications.

The stage into Barcelona is dangerous beware the Montjuic climb! Someone like Kessiakoff or Gerdemann could be dangerous.

janne_837
Yeah, I hope Yaroslav can get a good result here. Thanks, I will mind there to get to avoid a necessary loss of time.

img263.imageshack.us/img263/7775/k2pcm0021.jpg
Jos Van Emden sets the first good time. At the end, he could stay on a good 11th place (+10")

img638.imageshack.us/img638/7900/k2pcm0022.jpg
Paul Voss, the real life winner here, but he was far off this place today. 60th in the finish (+29")

img827.imageshack.us/img827/4083/k2pcm0023.jpg
One of our leader here, Haimar Zubeldia. Not such bad today, but could not reach his goal for today with place 23 (+17").

img69.imageshack.us/img69/4694/k2pcm0024.jpg
One of the best time trialer and a former tt-world champ in the peloton here, but dissapointing today. Just the 42th place (+24") for Michael Rogers. Rubiera in the background finished 61th (+29")

img25.imageshack.us/img25/6697/k2pcm0025.jpg
He was the big surprise today, Adriano Malori. Of course a good prologue rider, but nobody had thought that he would able to end 3rd (+6") here!

img232.imageshack.us/img232/3681/k2pcm0026.jpg
I forgot him in the list of the favourites. Of course had a Top-10 Paris Nice finisher a chance to win here! Navarro is not such a good rider against the clock, so he can be satisfied with place 33 (+21").

img594.imageshack.us/img594/5232/k2pcm0027.jpg
Yaroslav, our main leader here, was also not so good as expected. At the end, he can not be happy with the 8th (+9") place.

No screenshot from him, but another surprise: Daryl impey managed to get a really good time and finished 15th (+14")

img28.imageshack.us/img28/1338/k2pcm0030.jpg
Maciej Bodnar, the polish time trial champ from Liquigas. One place behind Impey, so 16th (+14").

img183.imageshack.us/img183/9348/k2pcm0031.jpg
The german tt-champ and tt-worldchamp 2008, Bert Grabsch! Seeing as he is not that good in short prologues, it id not such a big shame that he can just get the 28th place (+19")

img52.imageshack.us/img52/5765/k2pcm0032.jpg
Linus Gerdemann, also a candidate for a win here. And... he was amazing, finishing with 6'09". The provisional best time!

img651.imageshack.us/img651/4044/k2pcm0033.jpg
Benat Intxausti came in with the same time as Gerdemann, but he was a little bit slower than him. So the provisional second best time. Can anyone get a better time?

img63.imageshack.us/img63/2623/k2pcm0034.jpg
Tondo was not able to answer the expectations as 17th (+14"). Contrary to Vladimir Karpets who showed an amazing performance today as 5th (+7")

img201.imageshack.us/img201/2595/k2pcm0035.jpg
Richie Porte showed that he want to win the GC here, finished as a good 4th (+6")

img179.imageshack.us/img179/8536/k2pcm0036.jpg
HTC-Colombias time-trial specialists really lose today, also Marco Pinotti finisheds just 14th (+14").

img26.imageshack.us/img26/9409/k2pcm0037.jpg
"The smiler", or "The Redneck" how he is called by Lance and Levi, is just here to get the shape for the ardennes classics. But he was not such bad as maybe expected, place 22 (+16") at the end.

img713.imageshack.us/img713/589/k2pcm0038.jpg
The top favourite seems not to be in shape, I think place 7 (+8") is pretty weak for "Wiggo".
