203 km: The race started slowly and the pack stayed together in the downhill from Aprica. However at the foot of the Passo del Tonale the first riders tried to get away from the pack. The pace of the pack is very fast in the beginning of this very tough race and despite a lot of effort, initially nobody got away and a lot of riders are already in trouble with still a long race to go.
185 km: Dojwa, Siemons and Lemarchand managed to get away.
176 km: Dojwa is the first one on top of the Passo del Tonale before Lemarchand and Siemons. The pack follows at 3’30”.
113 km: Siemons is the first rider at the top of the Passo de Palade.
E1: Siemons (TVM), Lemarchand (Z) and Dojwa (RMO).
P at 7’31”: 180 riders (still complete).
90 km: In the downhill Van der Poel, Vona, Zaina, Kelly, Lavainne, Cornillet and Caritoux managed to sneak away from the pack and take a 40” lead. On the flat they would eventually be caught by the pack a little later.
85 km: Siemons takes the intermediate sprint in Merano.
E1: Siemons (TVM), Dojwa (RMO) and Lemarchand (Z).
E2 at 4’54”: Kelly (PDM), Vona (Jolly), Zaina (Carrera), Van der Poel (Tulip), Cornillet (Z), Lavainne (Castorama) and Caritoux (RMO).
P at 5’36”: 169 riders.
30 km: Muller, Millar and Claveyrolat are the first ones to attack. The road is slowly going up by 1.4%, but it will get a heck of a lot steeper very soon.
20 km: Lemarchand is alone in front of the race, but the riders behind him are approaching fast.
E1: Lemarchand (Z).
E2 at 16”: Claveyrolat (RMO), Muller (TVM), Millar (Z) and Siemons (TVM).
P at 49”: 161 riders.
19 km: Elli, Vona, Zaina and Simon are attacking. The others decided to wait for now.
12 km: Giovanetti and Rodriguez have gotten away from the pack as well and readily join the group with Elli
E1: Elli (Ariostea), Vona (Jolly), Claveyrolat (RMO), Sierra (Selle Italia), Giovannetti (Gatorade), Zaina (Carrera), Rodriguez (Pony Malta), Vargas (Ryalcao) and Gaston (CLAS).
E2 at 1’09”: Chioccioli (Del Tongo), Nevens (Lotto) and Simon (Castorama).
P at 1’43”: 40 riders.
10 km: Chioccioli passes the leading group like a TGV passing by. Only Giovannetti is able to catch on.
6 km: Since neither Chioccioli nor Giovannetti want to ride for the other, Gaston, Hampsten, Zaina and Vona manage to get back to the lead.
5 km: Giovannetti attacks. It is now or never. The leading group is ripped to pieces. Chioccioli dangles a couple of seconds behind Giovannetti for a while but then slowly catches up.
188 km: This is by far the most difficult race this Giro d’Italia. After this race the only way to make up some time is the ITT. Further there is stage 20 which is flat, but has a very difficult finish. But if you really want to move up in the GC, you have to do it here. The race starts slowly, but then Caritoux attacks on the Passo di Pinei. He will be the first one to arrive on the top followed by the pack at 1’26”.
160 km: At the foot of the Passo Nigra several riders try to get away from the pack and join Caritoux at the front of the field.
155 km: The Passo Nigra is a very difficult climb with extremely steep parts of 16% and more. Several riders are struggling and behind the pack.
E1: Prado (CLAS), Siemons (TVM), Vichot (Castorama), Henn (Carrera), Virvaleix (Histor), Lino (RMO), Parra (Amaya), Ambite (Amaya), Patry (Tulip), Van Aert (PDM), Schuler (Motorola), Corredor (Gaseosas), Van Eynde (Lotto), Vos (PDM), Verschueren (Lotto), Walzer (PDM), Lemarchand (Z), Manin (RMO), Huygens (Histor), Kindberg (Toshiba), Dojwa (RMO), Robin (Castorama), Espinosa (CLAS), Van Vooren (Tulip) and Meyvisch (Carrera).
P at 2’12”: 121 riders.
147 km: The goal of Corredor is to get as much mountain points as possible today. Considering that Chioccioli is going to score some points at the finish, Corredor must be first in at least all other sprints. He starts off great by a solo to the top of the Passo Nigra.
E1: Corredor
E2 at 46”: Siemons (TVM), Prado (CLAS), Virvaleix (Histor), Vichot (Castorama), Henn (Carrera) and Lino (RMO).
E3 at 1’39”: Van Eynde (Lotto) and Van Aert (PDM).
P at 2’32”: 107 riders.
107 km: Corredor also wins the sprint on top of the Passo Pordoi. The pack will go downhill, over the Passo de San Pellegrino to take this climb again on top of the Passo Pordoi
E1: Corredor (Gaseosas).
E2 at 25”: Siemons (TVM).
E3 at 39”: Henn (Carrera), Prado (CLAS), Virvaleix (Histor), Vichot (Castorama) and Lino (RMO).
E4 at 1’53”: Van Eynde (Lotto).
E5 at 2’16”: Van Aert (PDM).
P at 7’48”: 143 riders. Several riders have come back into the pack. They are clearly taking it slowly.
45 km: Corredor also takes the Passo de San Pelligrino. He is now leading the mountains classification by 9 points.
E1: Corredor (Gaseosas).
E2 at 3’09”: Henn (Carrera), Siemons (TVM), Virvaleix (Histor), Prado (CLAS) and Vichot (Castorama).
E3 at 3’45”: Lino (RMO).
E4 at 4’50”: Gaston (CLAS).
E5 at 5’12”: Cornillet (Z).
P at 5’38”: 49 riders.
30 km: Chioccioli has gotten away from the pack right at the not so steep part of the climb to the Passo Pordoi. Giovannetti reacted initially, but decided not to blow himself up in an attempt to close the gap.
17 km: Corredor is still in the lead, but behind him Chioccioli is closing in fast and the steep part to the Passo Pordoi still has to begin.
E1: Corredor (Gaseosas).
E2 at 3’10”: Chioccioli (Del Tongo) and Rodriguez (Pony Malta).
E3 at 3’29”: Vargas (Ryalcao).
E4 at 4’04”: Giovannetti (Gatorade), Wilches (Gaseosas), Claveyrolat (RMO) and Beltran (Gaseosas).
P at 4’31”: 39 riders.
5 km: Corredor is not going to make it to the finish. His lead on Chioccioli has completely disappeared.
E1: Corredor (Gaseosas).
E2 at 12”: Chioccioli (Del Tongo).
E3 at 54”: Sierra (Selle Italia), Hampsten (Motorola) and Zaina (Carrera).
E4 at 1’11”: Giovannetti (Gatorade).
E5 at 1’30”: Elli (Ariostea), Rodrigeuz (Pony Malta) and Claveyrolat (RMO).

E7 at 2’07”: Patarroyo (Ryalcao), Vona (Jolly), Cardenas (Ryalcao), Caritoux (RMO), Rodriguez (Pony Malta), Conti (Ariostea), Mendez (Selle Italia) and Sanabria (Pony Malta).

Poor Corredor. Would he have gotten enough points if he'd been tenth or ninth?
He should have been fifth. Tomorrow there is a tough mountain early in the race, while the last 100 kms are flat. Hopefully he will score some points there. If not there is a small hill in the final of the next race, but it will be more difficult to capture those I guess. Nevertheless, he deserves this jersey.
160 km: No suprises here. Corredor attacks. He wants to take of the mountain jersey and in order to do so he needs to pass the Passo di Rolle with the first 4 riders and he needs to do this before Chioccioli. Several other riders join in on the attack. They hope that the breakaway will last until the finish as it has already happened quite often this Giro. The pack however does not let them go yet. Chioccioli does not appear to be satisfied with the pink jersey alone.
144 km: Several riders are trying to get away. Corredor is not amongst them. Also they do not get away.
135 km: Still 8 km to the top and another group of riders is trying to get away. This time Corredor joins in the attack. For now, Chioccioli does not react. Corredor is taking the lead of the breakaway and tares it into pieces.
126 km: Corredor is the first one on top of the Passo di Rolle. He does not only takes over the lead in the KoM standings, but he does it with so many point that Chioccioli is not able to take it back. All Corredor has to do now is finish the Giro.

17 km: The pack is only 2’04” behind the attackers and is approaching fast. McKinley and Manin get away from the other attackers.
0 km: The attackers were caught a couple of kilometers before the finish. Sorensen proved the be the strongest today after such a long Giro. Cipollini finished second. It has been a very disappointing Giro for him so far. Since Chioccioli finished a little before Giovannetti, he is now only one point behind in the points classification. With an ITT still coming up, the fight for this jersey is going to be very entertaining.
180 km: Several riders are trying to get away from the pack. A couple of breakaways have lasted until the finish this Giro and the riders see this as their last chance to shine. Tomorrow is the ITT and the day after that the final race is bound to end into a mass sprint.

Rolf Sorensen was the first one to put a fast time on the clock, but it was eventually beaten be several riders.
Little changes occurred on the top 10, except for Zaina, who managed to pass Claveyrolat in the GC. As expected it was Giovannetti who took the win here and now has a firm lead in the points classification. For the lead in the general standings his time was not fast enought.
Chioccioli did a great job on the hilly track and managed to take second place at one minute from Giovannetti.
Hampsten,
Sierra,
Elli
and Gaston all did a good enough job to keep there positions.
Sean Kelly managed to sneak to 11th postion by a great ITT. He passed Vargas.

Does anybody know whether the Giro, Tour and Vuelta stages in the second year with the 1991 DB will be the same as the 1991 ones?
Edited by harry on 04-05-2010 20:53
148 km: Altough it is very likely this last stage in the 1991 Giro d’Italia is going to be a mass sprint, still riders are trying to get away from the pack. With the many victories of Chioccioli and Giovannetti, many riders and teams did not have any successes yet and this is the last chance to make up for it.
100 km: After many attempts and attacks a leading group has been formed and it has taken a considerable lead on the pack.
E1: Simon (Castorama), Caruso (Selle Italia), Prado (CLAS), Ramirez (Gaseosas), Manin (RMO), Otalvaro (Ryalcao), Kindberg (Toshiba), Martin (Amaya), Rodriguez (Pony Malta), Chiesa (Carrera), McKinley (Motorola), Caritoux (RMO) and Corredor (Gaseosas).
P at 3’24”: 169 riders.
64 km: Manin takes the intermediate sprint in Milano. The leading group of thirteen is still intact and has increased its lead on the pack to 7’10”. For Rodriguez this means that he would move on to the 4th place. No wonder that we suddenly see a lot of Motorola riders in front of the pack, protecting the 5th spot of Andy Hampsten.
40 km: The pack managed to decrease the gap with the attackers rapidly to 5’00”, but now it is increasing again to 6’17”. It seems everybody is too tired and nobody wants to bring in the attackers.
20 km: The pack has woken up and brought back the gap with the thirteen attackers to 5’00”. But it is not far anymore and closing the gap entirely seems impossible.
14 km: McKinley has made his move and he is jumped away from his fellow attackers. Chiesa is trying to make the jump to McKinley, but the gap is already quite large. The pack is still at 4’00”.
0 km: McKinley made it to the finish and again the pack is too late to bring in the leading group. What a Giro!!!! Chioccioli keeps the pink jersey as expected, Corredor was already sure of the climbers jersey and with the leading group staying in front, Giovannetti was also sure of winning the sprinters jersey.

Gatorde decided to ride the GP du Midi-Libre as a training for the Tour de France and the Italian championships instead of the Tour de Suisse, which was considered a littel to difficult and which would tire the team too much. Not many other teams made the same desicion. Only Tonton Tapis brought a couple of OK riders to the start. Many other teams did not show or brought their B squad (or better C squad). Consequently, only 66 riders are present. Bugno is the ultimate favorite for winning the GP du Midi Libre, but in the first prologue he was beaten by Moreau, a ITT specialist.

118 km: several riders are trying to get away from the pack. There are no strong teams present, so a breakaway should be able to last to the finish. Nevertheless, they are caught before the first intermediate sprint.
95 km: Primo takes the intermediate sprint before Eickelbeck and Santaromita.
34 km: Saitov wins the intermediate sprint before Boucanville and Zanatta.
20 km: Torres wins the mountain sprint before Knuvers and Wuller. The pack is still together in which is probably the most boring race ever.
0 km: Moreau also wins the second stage before Blanco Villar and Tebaldi.
180 km: It is a long and difficult race with only a small pack and little favourites. A great opportunity to be in a breakaway and not suprisinly several riders are trying to leave the pack early.
135 km: Morales takes the first mountainsprint of the day before Gusmeroli and Flood.E1: Morales (Kelme), Gusmeroli (Gatorade), Flood (Mosoca), Kalin (Bleiker), Knuvers (Panasonic), Wiatr (Subaru), Eickelbeck (Telekom) and Roelandt (Tonton Tapis).

P at 5’04”: 46 riders.
30 km: Rosado attacks and unleashes a lot of action. Several riders are trying to get away from the pack to make a jump in the GC. It seems unlikely that anyone would make chance on the victory since Morales is so far ahead.
24 km: Morales is still in the lead and takes the 2nd intermediate sprint.
E1: Morales (Kelme).
E2 at 3’29”: Mierzejewski (Subaru), Legrand (Panasonic) and Popp (Varta).

93 km: Today there is a very short and quick stage on the program. It is thus important to get a lead fast to win via a breakaway. Several riders are trying to get away from the pack fast.
68 km: Wuller wins the mountainsprint with a small lead on a group of 7 riders.
E1: Wuller (Telekom).
E2 at 25”: Rassinger (Varta), Ostergaard (Bleiker), Mathis (Subaru), Vink (Panasonic), Santaromita (Gatorade), Hurlimann (Bleiker) and Romanov (Lada).
E3 at 47”: Matwew (Telekom).
P at 3’43”: 57 riders.
60 km: Mathis (Subaru) wins the intermedaite sprint. The 8 attackers (Wuller was caught) have a 3’49” lead on the pack. I wasn’t enough to make it to the finish. The attackers were caught about 20 km before the finish.
0 km: Knuvers wins the sprint before Blanco Villar and Tebaldi.
Again PCM crashed. This starts to get annoying. Hopefully PCM 10 will be more stable (on my PC)...
84 km: Several riders are getting away from the pack. They have 81 km to build up an large enough gap with the pack to make it to the finish. The odds are against them.
54 km: Rassinger takes the intermediate sprint
E1: Rassinger (Varta), Holtmann (Telekom), Kalin (Bleiker), Zanatta (Gatorade) and Roelandt (Tonton Tapis).
P at 7’19”: 61 riders.
8 km: The attackers still hava a lead of 4’25” on the pack. Holtmann is making his move, but Zanatta counters. Kalin jumps along, but he cannot hold on. Zanatta rides him out of his wheel.
0 km: Zanatta easily takes the stage. He was the best today.
Again PCM crashed. Perhaps I should reinstall things.
153 km: Hubner takes the intermediate sprint.
E1: Hubner (Telekom), Mathis (Subaru), Romanov (Lada), Ostergaard (Bleiker), Vink (Panasonic), Genesca (Kelme) and Jolidon (Mosoca).
E2 at 1’42”: Eickelbeck (Telekom), Wiatr (Subaru), Hurlimann (Bleiker) and Bastianelli (Mosoca).
P at 1’16”: 55 riders.
85 km: Genesca is the first one on top of the first mountain that is on the program today.
E1: Genesca (Kelme).
E2 at 1’18”: Ostergaard (Bleiker).
E3 at 1’34”: Vink (Panasonic), Mathis (Subaru) and Jolidon (Mosoca).
E4 at 2’20”: Bastianelli (Mosoca).
E5 at 3’08”: Eickelbeck (Telekom), Romanov (Lada), Hubner (Telekom) and Hurlimann (Bleiker).
P at 8’23”: 56 riders.
48 km: Genesca also wins the sprint on the top of the second mountain. He has a substantial lead on everybody else. Will he be able to take the stage where his teammate Morales failed three stages earlier.
E1: Genesca (Kelme).
E2 at 3’46”: Mathis (Subaru) and Jolidon (Mosoca).
E3 at 4’33”: Vink (Panasonic) and Ostergaard (Bleiker).
E4 at 5’32”: Bastianelli (Mosoca).
E5 at 6’26”: Eickelbeck (Telekom).
E6 at 6’56”: Romanov (Lada), Hurlimann (Bleiker) and Hubner (Telekom).
P at 7’53”: 51 riders.
40 km: It is on now. All important riders in the GC are attacking one by one. It is everybody for themselves now.
0 km: Genesca wins the stages in a perfect solo race.

not bad result, but Not win whit Bugno facing Rassinger, Genesca and Villar is not very spectacular
You are right that this is not the strongest field, but I'm just warming the riders up for the Italian championship and the Tour. Winning is not the most important thing. Moreover there is still a 24 km ITT and a uphill finish coming up, so there will be a couple more chances for Bugno.
The game keeps on crashing after every race, while it does not do that when I play a single race. I think the save file is corrupted. Very annoying. Does anybody have an idea? It would be a shame if I can't post any screenshots anymore...
