Is it safe enough for the players to play in Qatar? I think it might get way too hot for a month long tournament and lots of people will become sick from the heat unless the stadium can be built to have special cooling thingies.
Russia is a great choice though for 2018.
In Soviet Russia world cup win you. |

@Kumazan, they will start very high profile project of nationalizing Brazilians
@Valverde, they will make the stadiums air-conditioned.

The stadiums might be air-condinioned but what about the people waiting to get in? Or traveling to the stadium. Or partying on the streets? Wait, is it even allowed to party on the streets? Or to drink some beer?
And isn't it sick to the max. to waste such huge amounts of energy to cool down an entire stadium.
I really wonder what the election committee received to vote for them. I mean in Russia you can get drinks and whores, but in Qatar? Oil-shares??? |

Qatar has promised to make the whole project CO2 neutral. And cooling down the stadium is necessary, over 40C is not uncommon during june in Qatar and. People will have to wear proper clothing for those conditions, which will mean not staying outside during midday and wearing head wear and light clothing and drinking lots of water. I am not sure about Qatars policy on alchohol, but it is one of the more liberal Arabian nations.

I think Qatar will be a great host. It will be warm, but i think with the new technology they are talking about and the redesign it will be good.
The proposed stadiums looks great.
As for Russia i think it was a smart step to. Never been arranged there and football there is on the rise.

A World Cup in the middle east? Because of the time zones, that's going to be a spectacular failure in terms of TV ratings.

As one of the UEFA delegates said earlier today: It can't possibly be any worse organized than Euro 2000. Nothing can.

It's llegal to show alcohol or be drunk in public under Qatar's sharia law

Hotels are allowed to serve alcohol in Qatar. The problem comes if you want alcohol outside the hotels....Then you need a kind of "alcoholvisa" for drinking alcohol other places. That has to go wrong when loads of germans, british wants that visa. Chaos
But still, there are 12 years to the tournament, things might change in Qatar, they definately have the last 12 years. |

Only in international hotels.
Anyway, I don't see any problem about this specific issue. After all, Dutch fans aren't allowed to smoke weed when they go abroad. |

My brother went to Qatar with no problem. Granted he had a new passport which didn't show he had been to Israel, so they had no way of knowing he was Jewish, but he said it really wasn't a problem.
If Israel qualified they'd have to let them in or else they'd have the world cup taken away.

You too the middle east is like the US to South Africa (time change wise), and South Africa didn't cause any problems here. It's us, in the US, who are going to take it in the shorts.

A couple of things:
1) Qatar has promised they will let Israel play should they qualify
2) Qatar has said that they will create large fan zones with bars where drinking will be legal
3) They will play matches late at night helping both the time zones and the temperature

I love the way the Netherlands/Belgium bid got 4 votes in round 1 and 2 votes in round 2. Talk about blatant corruption |

Just look at the English bid. We had the best economic bid, the best technical bid, great inspection vists and a presentation described by Blatter as "excellent and remarkable". We got 2 votes, one of which was our own. Of course, that had nothing to do with the fact the English media had found and investigated corruption amongst the FIFA voters

Also nothing to do with the fact that Blatter has spent the past 20 years trying to get the world cup to new territories
