On the other hand, I love the idea of getting in a break and the other guys thinking "Well, he's s***, he hasn't even shaved his legs." And then beating them all at the finish....
Definitely will get out into the chaingangs, and if I'm honest - no shame in this - bike handling needs improving too. I figure it will be a struggle to keep up though. Fine, I;m not afraid of pain
Haha great attitude, and yes there is something in it being in a break with unshaved legs, but to do that with no one else having hairy legs you'll have to wait until cat.2 races. Many, many cat 4's have hairy legs. It's a way of telling who's wheel to avoid
Bike handling can only improve with riding in groups - chaingangs, sunday rides, etc! There are normally some older guys who are really happy to talk to you for hours on end about cycling. Training, positioning, racing, you name it, they've been there! Find out if the uni has a road bike club as well, or if there are any roadies about, i train with the only roadie down at Exeter uni and he's brutal. Tears me apart often
Chuckie, i started on a GT - old make, bought a Giant - one of the lower specs. Now have a middle range Scott Speedster from 2006. Carbon forks is all.
I'm looking at getting a frame over summer in the sales, and building it up over winter to be ready for next years beastings. Long term plan is always good to have! Full carbon job it will be. Would quite like a Orbea, Colnago or Willier. B) I can dream...

Oh yeah, I've been a member of the uni bike club since I started. York's not great for sport, we have one Cat 4 who destroys me, one guy sportives... good fun though.
I think I've got the tactics sorted from years of watching races on TV, though to be fair, it can only help.
Got a £500 Bianchi three years ago, decent specs. Still got the original components though, so am gonna work this summer, maybe get me new wheels (Campag Khamsin/Mavic Aksiums), new handlebars, new bar tape.... |

White bar tape looks good, but if you don't keep it clean it looks awful.
Unless weather is good,it gets absolutely destroyed. dirt, oil etc
I ride a sinttesi rxy (never heard of it..i know),carbon forks and stem.built up with Dura-ace,cost me 800 euro last year. I think I'll work in the summer to buy a new one though.

How important? Is it important for those who races 5 times a year? |

Errr, training? If you haven't crashed in training, you aren't trying hard enough to look like a fool

I like to beat back the jungle first with hair clippers then use a razor. Wax is for pussys and chicks
I have a 2005 Bianchi San Lorenzo with old school Durace and Ksyrium SL wheels. The team is sponsored by Vredstein and Ritchy so I get that stuff.
My team and I were chillin in front of a bike shop in Petaluma when, lo and behold, Steve Cozza walks across the street from a book store (he i stocking up for the next 3 weeks of not rideing) It was cool seeing him again even with the bad news of his dog and his collarbone. Then I kicked ass on the ride.

*seconds the notion on pussys... (though that must hurt a lot for the girls... (double-entendre meant))
During off season i let it grow free, then have to shave it with hair clippers... then just one use razors... use them about 10 times im a skint ass student.

You spend 4 weeks at home avoiding cold/illness and the day you go back to university, you start feeling ill. All I want to do tomorrow is ride my road bike, but if I'm not feeling 90% or better, I won't be able to sod's law |

Sounds like pneunomia to me. Had that back in 2006. Spent 3 weeks in bed and another 3 weeks before i could run again. 'cept for that unconscious thing though, might wanna go to a doctor afterall.
