I think he means the stage in 08, when Sella attacked on the climb to Aprica. That stage ended in Tirano.

Yeah it was, although if it at least has an uphill finish then there is some hope.

Is Aprica the one we had in the 2007 giro after Mortirolo which brought everyone together
I believe the "finish" is identical to the 2006 stage, where Basso won ahead of Simoni, with riders arriving in small groups and huge timegaps in general. |

So, here one of the dams they will be crossing on stage 3; the 'Neeltje Jans'
You can imagine that, if the wind comes from the right direction, splits in the pack are pretty much garantueed.
However, they came up with a solution to that; a local lap... Since it's sort of a circle, there's always going to be a part with back wind, giving anyone good opportunities to close any gaps...
Without the lap, time differences would've been 90% sure... |

Awesome route for the Giro, as always. Perfectly suited for a not-so-good-TTer climber, though some more flat TT kms wouldn't be bad. Can't wait until may |

With this route, cyclists like Sastre or even A. Schleck should target the Giro, think it's better a Giro win than a Tour podium, Sastre already won it, Andy is young and has many more chances. |

You're missing the main point: Sponsor-wise, that would make no sense |

Cervélo's one of the teams where the sponsor doesn't care at all what the results are, so Sastre can do whatever he wants.
The Schlecks, meanwhile, have the type of mentality that ensures they won't even think of participating.
Meanwhile, Menchov will be there, no doubt.

Actually yeah, im willing to call this one a reasonable shot at Andy winning it.

Are the Schlecks aware that only ONE person wins the Tour? I mean, c'mon there's no prize for being the best bros of the Tour. Given the Giro's route, why not send one of them to fight for the Giro, and then bring him to the Tour to help the other one?
And I don't see anyone talking about Pellizotti. He's one of my favourites at this moment. |

Basso anyone? Liquigas could dominate this giro.

The Schlecks' nepotism is extremely strong. It has a strong negative influence on their palmares. One of them COULD win this Giro. But won't race it.

Agreed, but even given their nepotism, I don't think that it's a bad thing for any of them to have a Giro in their palmares (much more imortant than a Top 5 or a podium in the Tour, imo), so I wouldn't understand anything if both Schlecks skip the Giro, though I'm almost sure that they will.

I doubt it too, taking into account that is my feeling for a race which will be in 7 months, and based on Pellizotti's performance of 3-5 months ago
But still, who will be the main guns for the Giro? Menchov (which Menchov, Giro's or Tour's?), Sastre, Basso, and then I can't think in other GC contenders. Menchov has the problem of the very few TT kms, and I can easily see Pellizotti competing with Sastre. Basso needs to improve a lot to be with them.

If Sastre really go for the Giro, I think he can win. In shape he don't loose that much to the best ITT riders, on the TTT Cervelo can do it very well. And in the mountains he one of the best.
I think it will be Sastre, Liquigas, Menchov and maybe on of the other Italians (Pozzovivo?). If Conta participate, he will win, however, don't think he will start.

It's way to early to tell..who will ride. Menchov had missed good ride in TdF also..so who knows..
Sastre did not had good year..TdF-Vuelta will be much better for him (Giro profile is like made for him).
Pellizotti will be here in top form..also Basso.
What about dopers..some of them will return?
p.s. all american riders will ride same time Tour of California..(what a idiots)
