won in a mud bath of a race according to Cycling News. I'll have to wait to watch it, but sounds like a good one.
And for all you belgians,
Used spoilers because usually about 5-6 people have been talking about the race by now.

The race:
Spoiler Slow first rounds, all favorites started bad, around 13-15 postition, we saw Vervecken attacking in the first round, Verstraeten to. At this point Stybar was the only one of the favorites moving to the front. In the second round it was Sven Vantourenhout who had a gap of about 3 seconds, Stybar closed the gab while Nys and Albert still were around postion 10. Stybar caught Vanthourenhout and quickly went on alone. After a bit of solo by Stybar, Nys and Albert joined and they leaded for the whole race. Altough Wellens came close to making it, but Nys attacked when Wellens had about 2 seconds left. They stayed togheter, Albert seemed strong, he leaded the group. Stybar had his usual rounds of recovering and riding last. In the last 2 rounds Stybar came back to the front and putted huge pressure on Nys and Albert, Albert seemed to crack, but it was Nys who cracked. On the sudden steep hill Stybar took the left side, and Nys, who was about a second behind, took the right side, but apprently he didnt see another rider, who was a round behind, and wrode onto him, falling in the proces, Albert also lost a second, but nothing more due to this. And Stybar was gone, Albert fought back but coudlnt close the gap of 4-5 seconds. Nys was completelĀ§y exhausted and lost around 30 seconds in the last half lap. Klaas Vanthornhout became 4th, Wellens 5th.

I knew this was happening, but didn't know when... was it on tv? (because if so, too bad I missed it )
If you've got any videos of it, I'd like to see it
I found a race summary on Youtube. The sound isn't really good though (it's not synchronized with the image).

The video was deleted...
Anyway. The race actually wasn't all that good, but that's just my opinion. (maybe due to the lack of cameras...)
But Kami, I think you're wrong. To me, Nys seemed the strongest around, and Albert the worse of the three big guys. Albert was constantly struggeling to keep up, especially on the mud section just before the finishline.
Furthermore, Nys was not exhausted after the incident with the lapped rider. He was just frustrated that he now had to let Stybar go. And Nys has not got the mentality to then jump on the bike again and chase after Stybar, he just 'gave up'.
Anyway, Vantornout was pretty unlucky. Too bad because this would've been a good course to see him at the front. And Wellens, great. To see him cmoning back so strong. |

Well, Albert reached his form of the beginning of the season again. The training camp in Spain was definatly a good one for him.
Again, Nys much better in the technical aspect (cornering), but in the middle part of the race Nys just couldnt keep up the pace, and was a little to late with his comeback.
btw; tomorrow is the Druivencross Overijse. Doesnt count for WC, GVA or SP, but it's one of the best courses in the sport. Lots of climbing, pretty tough. Should suit Albert pretty well, and expect a good performance by Wellens who took some rest today.

It seems Albert will be unstoppable again for the next races, but I think he won't be able to keep this form until the WC. |

Correct, but this form peak will end in a few weeks and then he'll have a third one for the Worlds. Or at least, that's the theory. |

So, last nigth and this morning we got +- 5 to 10 cm of snow, and since I live only about 40km from Kalmthout, things should be no different there. So today's WC cross should be rather interesting
Normally I'd go there to watch it live, but with all the snow all roads are like ice... so I'm watching it from my coutch

What race have you been watching???
Anyway, great performance by Nys. A lot of bad luck, but still being able to catch up with Stybar. Very well done. |
