Once again the early parts of the stage is an attacking frenzy with no one getting a proper lead. Having developed a nose for these things from his many years on the track Jens Erik finds himself in the front group when the second intermediate are to be contested.
Only second this time, but still a lot of important points for the jersey!

Finetto takes full advantage of the first categorized climb to leave the rest of the break behind, while I have told my team to start reeling in the break â€“ it seems no one else wants to...

With 30 km to the line it appears we might have underestimated the strength of the breakaway. Finetto is still alone in front with just over half a minute to Trentin, Casar, Bulgac, Voigt and Terpstra and a further four minutes to the peloton! They are all about three minutes down in the GC so something has to happen...

I tell my domestiques to give it all they have, but not a lot happens to the gap and with 15 km to go Lars Bak goes on the attack with the break 2'30'' out ahead.

Commonwealth Bank â€“ GreenEdge wont let him go and quickly reels him back in.
Lars tries several times with same result. 8 km from the line race leader Canuti tries to get away, but Edvald is right in his wheel and he has no luck in his attempt.

Edvald tries to make a difference, but he just wasn't strong enough today to win any time on Canuti, while none other than Der Jensie takes the stage.

Stage 4: Norwood â€“ Goolwa

On paper another flat stage. We will probably try setting up Edvald for the sprint again.

You know the drill by now. Lots of riders attacking. No one gets a decisive gap, but none the less Brian Matzen gets to pull the break over the single KOM of the. That almost secures his jersey!

But then something weird happens as only Saur â€“ Sojasun want to chase the break. Brian is by far the best placed rider in the break so we certainly wont do anything and the gap grows to just over four minutes with 70 km to go.

With 15 km to the line its Eisel, Bak and Chicchi 50 seconds ahead.
Bak tries to get rid of the two fast guys with 8 km to the line, but no luck. Eisel proves to be the strongest of the three and going into the final five he has half a minutes gap alone.

At least today we manage to actually provide Eddy with a leadout, but will he be able to catch Eisel?

A no for the bit about catching the Austrian.

A strong effort by the Norwegian none the less gets him a good second on the stage along with 6 bonus seconds.

Two passes of Old Willunga Hill makes this the second hardest stage of the race, though the flat finish will probably prevent any big time differences.

As usual no break is allowed a proper gap and once again Jens Erik shows great fighting and positioning skills to get the first intermediate ahead of Baden Cooke.

Thanks to a strong early effort Madsen takes the second intermediate as well and is very close to securing the jersey! If anyone has over doubted whether track-abilities could be used on the road Jens Erik have certainly proved in this race that they canâ€¦

On the first pass of Old Willunga Hill Brian Steen Matzen chase after Sandy Casar, but the Frenchman just stops pedaling at the top of the hill and leaves Brian alone in front with 1â€™25â€™â€™ to the peloton. 40 km to the line is a lot, but I tell him to go for it hoping to open up the race a bit.

Knowing that this could be his big breakthrough Brian gives it all heâ€™s got and at the top of the second pass he holds more than two minutes with less than 20 km to the finish line!

The last 10 km its Saxo â€“ Tinkoff vs Brian Steen Matzen and he is doing great!
5 km to the line and 1â€™10â€™â€™ between Brian and the peloton.

While Brian is figting desperately into the last 1,5 km it appears Saxo â€“ Tinkoff have timed the chase perfectly behind. Luckily Bak and Stevenson have been able to place Edvald in a good position for the sprint.

Final km and a somewhat chaotic bunch sprint is a reality.

Eddy was caught a bit behind Gallopin but is putting in a strong sprint for the final 500 m.

In the end itâ€™s one for the home fans.

Only two seconds separate Boasson Hagen and Canuti before the last stage!

Stage 6: Adelaide â€“ Adelaide

A final 93 kms in and around Adelaide to settle things. Edvald will be looking to find those two missing seconds somewhere along the route today.

Thereâ€™s a frantic pace the first 40 kms as we want to keep things together, but the peloton doesnâ€™t want to be kept together. Nonetheless we get it our way as Eddy attacks to take the first intermediate sprint and the three seconds that goes along with it. The pressure is now on the Italian!

A break takes care of the second sprint â€“ perfect for us.

Rabobank looks determined to get Kittel his second stage win, but Goss is right behind them as are Edvald along with three helpers.

Once again with a bit of bad luck in the early sprint Edvald loses a few positions before the final km where Kittel is looking untouchable in front.

Notice the word â€œlooksâ€.

Edvald puts in a massive sprint to take the stage and the GC. This is what racing is all about!

Well Volvo wanted us to take the points jersey. Jens Erik Madsen did that brilliantly by using some of the skills that made him a WC back in 2009. When we extended his contract last year several commentators told us we were stupid. Guess they know now why we did that...

Along with that Brian Steen Matzen expanded his palmares with his first win. I know the mountain jersey in Tour Down Under is not that prestigous but it will surely be a great confidence-booster for Brian!

And then we finally figured out how to do a succesful leadout for Edvald Boasson Hagen resulting in a GC win right in the last moment.
