Stage 5

Another hilly stage with a mountain-like hill near the end
i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff272/SportingNonsense2/DFL/suisse16.png

And like in Stage 2, Hagen is keen to keep himself in contention going up the climb
i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff272/SportingNonsense2/DFL/suisse17.png

He manages to cross in 5th - just behind Saul Raisin, who is throwing himself back into the frame for that Tour de France spot
i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff272/SportingNonsense2/DFL/suisse18.png

Gerdemann, Zubeldia and Barredo got a gap over the top. Gerdemann wins the stage, Zubeldia takes the race lead

12th on the stage for Hagen, Raisin 16th

Stage 6

The first of the tough mountain stages
i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff272/SportingNonsense2/DFL/suisse21.png

Swift, Chtioui, Nolf and Stannard were hard at work early on preventing any break to get away, for Hagen to go clear and take the points on offer at the intermediate sprint and take the lead in the points classsification
i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff272/SportingNonsense2/DFL/suisse22.png

The climbs themselves werent particularly interesting. The 5 men who wanted to win this race went clear while the rest either couldnt get away or did not try.

Zubeldia won the stage ahead of Andy Schleck and Lloret
i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff272/SportingNonsense2/DFL/suisse23.png

Raisin won the peleton's sprint for 6th, with Iglinskiy in 9th and Hagen also clinging on in there

Stage 7

The very long and hard summit climb will surely shake things up GC wise
i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff272/SportingNonsense2/DFL/suisse25.png

But our only aim of the day was the early intermediate sprint. Swift, Nolf, Chtioui and Stannard controlled the peleton early on
i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff272/SportingNonsense2/DFL/suisse26.png

Hagen was free to attack the peleton 6km prior to the intermediate sprint, which he duly won ahead of fellow countryman Thor Hushovd
i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff272/SportingNonsense2/DFL/suisse27.png

That was it for our plans today, the final climb would see Hagen lose his 15th place overall
i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff272/SportingNonsense2/DFL/suisse28.png

Discovery and Saunier Duval controlled things for a lot of the climb before one man attacked and went clear.
i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff272/SportingNonsense2/DFL/suisse29.png

Raisin and Iglinskiy were fairly evenly matched. They both cracked with 4km to the summit.
i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff272/SportingNonsense2/DFL/suisse30.png

Andy Schleck was the lone stage winner but other gaining a lot of time, he fell 5 seconds short of the race lead
i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff272/SportingNonsense2/DFL/suisse31.png

Iglinskiy beat Raisin by 38 seconds, a blow to the American's tour hopes

Stage 8

A flat stage .. but with a mountain.
i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff272/SportingNonsense2/DFL/suisse33.png

A good finish from Hagen is a must today in order to secure the points jersey. So Swift, Stannard, Chtioui, Nolf and Tenorio all help chase down the days breakaway - Tenorio and Chtioui will later abandon as they hope to race in Eindhoven tomorrow.

So with 11km to go, Hagen, Iglinskiy and Raisin are the only DFL riders left in the peleton. Dessel of Ag2r is the 2nd man in the relay train .. and crashes. A mass crash of over 40 riders then rips apart the peleton. The DFL riders avoid it but 3 of the Top 5 GC are down: Schleck, Gerdemann and Popovych
i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff272/SportingNonsense2/DFL/suisse35.png

The crash also affected sprinters - the only challenge to Hagen now is fellow countryman Hushovd. But having a very bad -5 day, Hagen just cant get to the front of the peleton. He tries everything, but to no avail. He starts the sprint in 36th position, with Duque already leading off Hushovd in the distance.
i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff272/SportingNonsense2/DFL/suisse36.png

Hagen works himself up to 20th with a kilometre to go
i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff272/SportingNonsense2/DFL/suisse37.png

And does manage a strong final kilometre to take 8th position, he can only watch on as Hushovd celebrates long after the finish line. That should have been him.
i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff272/SportingNonsense2/DFL/suisse38.png

Surprisingly, no time gaps were given so the crashed riders are let off the hook

Stage 9

The final stage of the race - and winning the first intermediate sprint will be enough to secure the points jersey for Hagen
i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff272/SportingNonsense2/DFL/suisse39.png

He is set up by Swift, Stannard and Nolf, and easily takes it
i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff272/SportingNonsense2/DFL/suisse40.png

Unlike previous stages though, this time he decides to stay with the breakaway and it is not chased down
i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff272/SportingNonsense2/DFL/suisse41.png

This means he is also able to win the intermediate sprint placed after the first of the days climbs
i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff272/SportingNonsense2/DFL/suisse42.png

The break stays away until the start of the last climb of the race. The peleton is already thinned down and a major name not in there is Andy Schleck. Its not due to the crash he had on Stage 8 - its due to yet another crash that happened when descending the penultimate climb.
i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff272/SportingNonsense2/DFL/suisse43.png

Just the two riders got away from the lead group on the climb: Lloret and Zubeldia. Lloret would win the stage, but could not gap Zubeldia who wins overall.
i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff272/SportingNonsense2/DFL/suisse44.png

The crowd had to wait some 4 minute for the next group, of 15 men, to arrive. And some good tactics saw Maxim Iglinski lead them in taking 3rd. Thats a ProTour point for him - and also his place on the Tour team, Saul Raisin will miss out, despite another strong showing by him today.

Eindhoven TTT

www.cyclingnews.com/photos/2005/tour05/tour054/cycling-tdf2005-liquigas-20.jpg

The team received a blow when Rafaa Chtioui and Justo Tenorio's flight from Switzerland was cancelled at the last moment, so Fran perez and Adam Blythe were drafted in to join an already strong team of Bradley Wiggins, David Millar, Michail Ignatiev, Cadel Evans, Rigoberto Uran and Geraint Thomas.

i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff272/SportingNonsense2/DFL/eindhoven1.png

After a steady start, Millar, Ignatiev and Wiggins led the charge
i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff272/SportingNonsense2/DFL/eindhoven2.png

And in the end it was a comfortable victory, a good sign for the long 63km TTT that features in the Tour de France

National Championships

i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff272/SportingNonsense2/DFL/natchamps.png

German TT

Clashing with the Tour de Suisse and Eindhoven, usually we get an unworthy winner, but not this year. The strongest German TTist won the title: Jakob Fiedler.

Italy TT

The two time reigning champion Marco Velo has retired, so we get a new champion. And it is Vincenzo Nibali.

Swiss TT

Fabian Cancellara won back the championships as last years champion Michael Schar only managed 4th. Schars career has gone downhill since signing for the Babes Only team.

Ireland

Former DFL rider David McCann took victory, he now rides for the Luxembourg national team! Deignan left emptyhanded.

United Kingdom

With a team of 8, we were always the team to beat. And beat us they could not! The decisive move was Geraint Thomas, Ian Stannard and Steven Cummings - with Geraint Thomas outsprinting the other 2 for victory.

Norway

A great win for Edvald Boasson Hagen, he is well set for the Tour.

Lithuania

Ignas Konovalovas may be completely out of form. But he seemed to only have to turn up and win. He will wear the jersey proudly later in the season.

Luxembourg

The Schleck brothers decided it was Andy's turn this year. Avoiding falls unlike in Suisse, the younger of the two will wear the national jersey as we expect him to challenge in the Tour.

Others
Kazakhstan - Dmitri Muravyev
Estonia - Janek Tombak
Slovenia - Grega Bole
Sweden - Hakan Nilsson

Great riding in Eindhoven, and congrats on taking the sprinters jersey in Swiss land. However, I am annoyed that you gave your last tour spot to Iglinsky over Raisin

Well, I did say it would be about who did best in Switzerland and even though Raisin had better form, Iglisnkiy is the one who performed better.

Yeah, but Raisin has a messed-up brain, doesn't that count for something.
