Scarponi was 4th, Cunego 6th in this years Giro. That's not so bad now, is it? Why in heaven's name would you want to put these two with the trash? |

They're both getting old. Sure, Scarponi was strong in the Giro, but far from as strong as he was last year. The 2011 Scarponi would've won this year's Giro easily.
Cunego, wasn't at all very impressive in the Giro if you ask me. He moved up several places from following the De Gendt train on the Stelvio stage. Before that he was barely inside the Top 10. I see no point in keeping him, at least at his current wage.
But of course, this is just my opinion.

I agree about Scarponi (and that is speaking as someone who quite likes him).
Cunego also has 6th at Catalunya, 4th at Pais Vasco and 2nd at Trentino this year and a stage win at Trentino. So I'd say they should keep him around but his wage is way out of proportion with his results.

Scarponi is still strong enough to be a good team mate but not win another GT. Cunego is also strong and in a few years could get a top 5. I would keep them both.

Please note that I didn't mean that they should try to get rid of both already for next year.
I believe that Scarponi has one season near top level left, with at least a Top 5 at the Giro. Cunego would have to accept a huge paycut for me to find him useful in the team.

This may be another Jimmy Casper rumour, but I haven't seen it mentioned.
Purito hasn't been able to reach an agreement with Katusha for a new contract yet and may leave at the end of the season if they can't work it out. With Moreno also leaving (I think?) this could really hurt Katusha.

Apparently, he's also pissed off with the lack of support he had in the Fuente Dé stage, where Katusha literally vanished when Contador attacked. Special mention to Dani Moreno there.

He mentioned Moreno? I didn't see that.
That's very odd considering Moreno had a cracked rib from the crash

I wouldn't call out Moreno, he was right by J-Rod's side for 20 stages of the race, and had one bad day. It was that no one else was there to help, Menchov, Viciosio, Brutt, etc. Saxo Bank, which couldn't keep anyone with Contador in the 2011 Tour as soon as they hit the first major climb, had multiple guys just sitting on J-Rod's wheel. Not a strong showing from the rest of the team. |

Moreno didn't have a bad day, he easily finished in the Antón, Gesink, Talansky group. Menchov, who was one the few Katushas who helped Purito, did and lost 20 minutes. Moreno obviously didn't have any problem helping Purito the other days, knowing that his work would finish in the last 2 km and that way he could limit his losses. Suddenly, the day his leader needs him further away, he feels bad (but good enough to finish with Gesink, of course ).

Vermeltfoort -> De Rijke.
Now that's what I call a step backwards.

Because he never accomplished anything at Rabo and probably couldn't get a ride anywhere else? |

Perhaps that he turned out to be crappy? He has zero results since he joined the pros.

Very interesting team they're putting together.
As long as Niyonshuti stays, I'm all in. |
