Petronas - Monster Energy; The end of an era
FreitasPCM
Very well Gesink, not in a great shape, but kept on with the best. Smile

As for the transfers, I think you could try Gilbert... the team's based around the Benelux countries, and I think it would be a realistic transfer. Or try to bring Frank to the team, and drop Gesink. Pfft

Boasson Hagen would be perfect for Monster EnergyWink

When you thought that yesterday's stage was tough, take a look at stage 7! 4 mountain passes and a mountain top finish, th ehighest point at 2434 metres above sea level, 99.6 ascending kilometres at a total of 162.6 and a height difference of 5599 metres. Not for sprinters Smile .
img585.imageshack.us/img585/2530/etappe7.jpg

Note: this is the 2nd time I have to write this report, as I accidentaly closed the browser when I'd almost finished it Embarassed . So a shorter version now....

65km to go
With the goal of securing his KOTM-jersey, Wout Poels is in the attack again. With only 2 breakaway-buddies, it's easier to collect th epoints, especially because Jean-Christophe Péraud (AG2R) and Bauke Mollema (Rabobank) aren't interested in these points.
Poels collects the maximum amount of points at the first 2 KOTM-sprints (Lukmanierpass and Oberalppass), and with the last energy left in his legs, he's also the first at the Furkapass, the Cima Coppi in this Tour de Suisse.
Since he's secured of the KOTM-jersey, he shakes hands with Peraud and Mollema, and wishes them a nice continue of their breakaway and takes it easy.

19km to go
After 7 ascending kilometres of today's final climb, the Sustenpass, GC's number 4 Matthias Frank attacks. At this point, he's 3'18 behind Peraud and Mollema and is for sure aiming at the podium. Just as yesterday, Frank Schleck serves as a very luxury domestique of GC-leader Vincenzo Nibali and takes control of the pace of the peloton.
img834.imageshack.us/img834/9448/619km.jpg

10km to go
Due to the high pace set by Frank Schleck, BMC's Frank gets caught and only 30 riders are left in the first group. The gap to the leading duo has decreased to 1'21.
img692.imageshack.us/img692/6089/710km.jpg

6km to go
In the next kilometres, Peraud and Mollema get caught. Then GC's number 7 uses the dark of a short tunnel to launch an attack. His countrymen Samuel Sánchez is the first to react, and this causes a chain of reaction. The group thins out rapidly and also Robert Gesink can't follow the leaders at this moment.
img577.imageshack.us/img577/4724/86km.jpg

3km to go
7 riders form the head of the race with 3km to go: Nibali (GC1), Menchov (GC2), Hesjedal (GC3), Frank (GC4), Sánchez (GC5), Schleck (GC9) and Rodríguez (GC14). David Arroyo, who started this, is falling back and is '20 behind. Gesink is closing in again and is now '28 behind. GC's number 6 Bradley Wiggins is already a minute behind!
img214.imageshack.us/img214/5636/93kmr.jpg

1km to go
Robert Gesink manages to close the gap to the leading group (and has dropped Arroyo), but at that moment, Vincenzo Nibali attacks. No one is capable of following the Italian whom is on his way to his 3rd stage win.
img851.imageshack.us/img851/7498/101kmc.jpg

Finish
Nibali can't be threatened in the last kilometre and secures his third stage win in this Tour de Suisse, and the 5th of his team.
img692.imageshack.us/img692/6209/11finish.jpg

2nd place
'37 behind Nibali, it's Sammy Sánchez who wins the sprint for the 2nd position. Robert Gesink finishes behind him in an excellent 3rd position. And because of the time loss for Arroyo and Wiggins, he jumps to the 6th place in the GC.
13 riders finish outside the timelimit, unfortunately Tom Dumoulin, Marcel Kittel & Maxim Léfevre are among them.

Word from the DS
Another good stage. Poels did an excellent job, and now only has to finish the last 2 stages to win the KOTM-jersey. Gesink is showing that with an increasing form, he'll be a contender for a Top 3 in Le Tour.

Pellizotti2
For the transfer season, I'd go for Breschel and EBH. The cobbles is the part of the squad that needs a boost the most I think. Also EBH would be a good choice, as he's always almost unbeatable in game.

But whatever you do, don't sign a new GT contender. Schleck and Gesink are both talented enough, plus they're younger than Contador and Evans. Sticking with the ones you have is the way to go I think.

3 votes for EB Hagen, 2 for Breschel and Gilbert... Think that my first offer goes to EBH, 2nd to Gilbert, 3rd to Breschel, 4th to Cancellara....
To be continued in a few weeks (in-game).

Contador gets fired by Saxo Bank!

Bjarne Riis, Chairman of the board from the Saxo Bank - Sunguard cycling team has announced that the team-direction made the decision to fire Alberto Contador. Contador heard the verdict that he got banned for 2 years in the Clenbuterol-case, and that he isn't allowes to cycle in races until August 2012.
Riis: "Alberto's contract expires at the end of the year. As we want to be a doping free team, weve decided not only to not prolong his contrct, but also to fire him for the remaining of this year. We feel very sad about it, but believe this is the only option!"
As a result, Contador's season is ended. This is a big blow for the winner of 3 World Tour stage races (Vuelta Pais Vasco, Tour de Romandie and Dauphiné).

The 3rd mountain stage in a row, but the easiest one. The stage between Lugano and the Alp Flix is only 143 kilometres, and the first 2 climbs aren't steep: Malojapass, 32.2km at 4.6% and the Julierpass, 7.3km at 6.6%. The last 5 kilometres to the Alp Flix have an average gradient of 9.0%, so the Tour de Suisse will be decided there.
img707.imageshack.us/img707/7123/etappe8.jpg

98km to go
A group of 13 tries to form a breakaway, and creates a gap of 2 minutes. But the peloton doesn't allow the group, with Rigoberto Urán (Sky), Rui Costa (Movistar) and Richie Porte (Saxobank) as the big names, to ride away and catches them before the ascend of the Malojapass starts.
img31.imageshack.us/img31/7575/196km.jpg

39km to go
Another breakaway is formed in the ascend of the Majolapass, and this time, theyget the approval of the peloton. Mikel Astarloza (Euskaltel), Diego Ulissi (Lampre), Mads Christensen (SaxoBank) and David Le Lay (AG2R) arrive at the summit of the Majolapass with an advantage of 3'36 to the peloton.
img689.imageshack.us/img689/9573/239km.jpg

23km to go
When the peloton starts with the ascend of the Julierpass (alt. 2285m), Nairo Quintana (Colombia) attacks, surprisingly followed by Nibali and Sammy Sánchez. Unfortunately for Quintana, this means that he has no chance and he wasted his energy.
img829.imageshack.us/img829/9052/323km.jpg

20km to go
Ulissi and Astarloza have dropped Christensen and Le Lay, and arrive at the summit with a gap of 1'52 to Nibali and Sánchez, and 2'07 to the chasing peloton. Nibali and Sánchez see that they won't stay away and wait for the group.
img6.imageshack.us/img6/1161/420km.jpg

5km to go
A group of 27 cyclists arrives at the foot of the Alp Flix 1;52 behind the 2 leaders. Robert Gesink has taken the lead of the group and sets a high pace.
img163.imageshack.us/img163/5855/55kmw.jpg

3km to go
Being less than a minute behind the 2 leaders, Gesink attacks and tries to win this stage. But Nibali reacts immediately, trying to win everything in this Tour de Suisse.
img543.imageshack.us/img543/3852/63km.jpg

1500m to go
Because of the attack, the leading duo gets caught. Nibali is too strong for Gesink, so he stops his attack. As a result, a group of 12 riders is preparing for the sprint. Can someone beat Nibali?
img859.imageshack.us/img859/3623/71500m.jpg

Finish
Of course not, what were we thinking? Nibali easily wins the sprint, even creates a gap of 10 seconds, and takes his 3rd stage win. Menchov finishes in 2nd and Gesink takes another 3rd place.

Word from the DS
Another god stage by Gesink. He tried to attack, but Nibali was too strong. Looking forward to the Tour, especially with the ban for Contador!

The ban of Contador is an opportunity for Gesink and Schleck (I don't know who will ride).

The last stage of the Tour de Suisse, 166 kilometres with start and finish in Zürich, and should be for the sprinters.
img820.imageshack.us/img820/5207/etappe9.jpg

18km to go
A lot of riders try to form a breakaway, but none of them succeeds. Among them are Joaquím Rodríguez, Nairo Quintana and also Lieuwe Westra & Thomas Dekker.
One rider eventually manages to create a gap of maximum 2'30, Vacansoleil's Martin Mortensen. But he knows that he won't wake it against the furious peloton. And with 14km to go, he gets caught.
img221.imageshack.us/img221/773/118km.jpg

2km to go
2 sprint trains are formed: Team Qantas for Matthew Goss, and Omega Pharma - Quick Step for Tyler Farrar.
img543.imageshack.us/img543/790/22kma.jpg

But then a big crash and a massive pile up as a result. Only 63 riders can stay in the first peloton and 3 riders even have to abandon: Americo Novembrini, Kim Kirchen and Stijn Devolder. One victim is Nairo Quintana, and unfortunately for him, he looses the U25-jersey to Romain Sicard because of it.
img821.imageshack.us/img821/1791/3val.jpg

Finish
Tyler Farrar has a perfect lead out in Gerald Ciolek and wins the sprint, his 2nd in this Tour de Suisse. Goss gets 2nd, Ale Petacchi 3rd.

Word from the DS
Looking back, we can be very happy with another KOTM-jersey and the performance of Robert Gesink. And than especially his climbing performance, has he was as strong as Sánchez, Schleck and Menchov. Only Nibali was too strong. We're looking confident towards Le Tour!!

Our goals
Getting another GC-win will be difficult, so we'll aim for a top 3.

Stage 1
img190.imageshack.us/img190/1986/5etappe1.jpg

The race kicks off with a 5.2km flat Prologue. The fastest time is set by Radio Shack's Jesse Sergent, with Stef Clement and Sébastien Rosseler finishing within one second.

Stage 2
img197.imageshack.us/img197/217/9etappe2.jpg

The 2nd stage to Sittard-Geleen has a steep final kilometre. We try to surprise the sprinters, but don't succeed. Bobbie Traksel (Landbouwkrediet) wins the stage and takes over the lead in the GC. Vanmarcke & Rosseler finish in the first group.

Stage 3
img827.imageshack.us/img827/1333/13etappe3.jpg

The 3rd stage towards Schimmert is for the sprinters, as it ends with a mass sprint. For the 2nd day in a row, Bobbie Traksel takes the win, being much and much stronger than the competition. And our riders? Well, they sucked in the sprint....

In the queen's stage to La Gileppe, a breakaway won. Jonas Ljungblad (Team Differdange) was the only remaining rider out of a group of 3, that could stay out of reach of the peloton. Paul Martens (Rabobank) wins the sprint for the 2nd place at '49. Rosseler is the best of our team in 12th place.

Stage 5

The last stage to Etten-Leur is for the sprinters again. Traksel is about to win his 3rd stage, but Chris Sutton manages to pass him with a great final jump. Keukeleire was in a perfect position behind Traksel 2km before the finish, but got blocked by Traksel's lead out and all the riders behind him lost more than 20 seconds..... PCM-logic.

PRESS RELEASE
img706.imageshack.us/img706/7180/monsterenergydrinkred.jpg
Monster Energy - Ford has decided to fire their young rider Thibault Dupont. Directeur Sportive mr. Dienblad: "While riding the Ster ZLM-Tour, Dupont didnt show up one night in his hotelroom. His first explanation was that he went to his parents house nearby and that he stayed the night there.
But during the National championships in Belgium, we found out that he went home with a Monster Energy-girl and stayed the night with her. The 2 had met after a stage, she was there as a promotion girl. This behaviour can't be approved, nor from a young rider like Dupont, nor from a team leader. For that reason, we decided that it was better to go on separate ways."

National Championships

Just as last year, I simulated the National championships (for me Belgium, Netherlands and Germany). Maxime Monfort was only '5 faster than Sébastien Rosseler, so that was a close call. Westra (and Gesink in 2nd) dominated the Dutch TT-champs. Kittel finished in 5th, only 1'25 behind Tony Martin.
The RR on a cobbled rute in Belgium was a disaster, with Vanmarcke (take risks) being the best in 8th, Rosseler (no exertions) in 12th and Vanendert (break away) in 14th.... The Dutch race was way better (the route from the AGR), with Dekker (take risks) in first, beating Steven Kruijswijk in the sprint. Gesink (no exertions) finished in 3rd and Westra (break away) in 8th.
