Double Feature | THE END
TTspecialist
Good luck there!

Ian Butler
Jakstar22 - Thanks, I hope so, too! As soon as possible.

Daggen - Will do so. At least try to Wink

FreitasPCM - They might've retired by the time you come back... Frown Pfft

sutty68 - Thanks!

Ollfardh - Vanbilsen is a real strong rider. He'll be Stijn's big competitor in a few years when Cancellara and Boonen stop performing. Stijn wants to be a flandrien much more than a sprinter, though Smile you're right about that!

TTspecialist - Thanks mate!

Will race before E3-prijs and maybe tonight, too. But it's Belgium - Macedonia so I will probably watch that Grin

Tirreno - Adriatico - Stage 2

The final flat stage of this Tirreno - Adriatico.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/tirreno01_zps43d77baa.jpg

A relatively easy finish. Wide roads, flat. The final corner might cause a problem, though.

Willy Wouters

When the breakaway was almost caught, Clement went for one final time, to pick up the "fighter of the day" trophy.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/tirreno02_zpsd791b7d7.jpg

Stijn Van Gent

Three national champions wheel to wheel: Démare, Sagan and myself.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/tirreno03_zpsfb25e789.jpg

I build up speed a bit too early. I made a rookie mistake of going full speed before the final corner. The others were a bit slower so they took the corner much better, I almost missed it!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/tirreno04_zpsf7ac4fee.jpg

The mistake might've cost me a podium place, but in the end, a fifth place isn't bad. This was my final test for Milan - San Remo, all that remains are hilly stages, which will be good training!

Démare took the win, with Sagan a close second.

Take this as advice but i really think you just report much more for/from Stjin than Willy. You should make few more reports from him too.Otherwise great race, great sprint!

Tirreno - Adriatico - Stage 3

Finally we head into the hills.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/adri01_zps9de07fcb.jpg

245 km, hell, this is almost an Ardennes Classic!

Stijn Van Gent

Today I restricted myself to some water bottle duties. Someone has to do the dirty work, right?!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/adri02_zpsf2aa7bbf.jpg

My legs were good and I stayed with the peloton longer than expected. But as soon as the attacks came, my race was over!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/adri04_zps93d3580a.jpg

Willy Wouters

Many attacks today, as we could expect. With Slagter, Costa and myself we had a pretty strong team for the hills. I felt my legs growing km after km!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/adri03_zps5e3ff97b.jpg

When Gilbert was in front, I didn't think twice. React now or it's too late!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/adri05_zps0d23fe31.jpg

Gilbert's effort didn't last, but Valverde and Vanendert were still ahead. I sped out like an arrow! It's the first time this season I felt this great!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/adri06_zps1bbe61d4.jpg

I went as fast as I could and caught all escapees but one: Valverde.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/adri07_zpsf5b22116.jpg

He took the win, but more importantly for me: I'm back! My killer instinct and my usual legs have returned unexpectedly in this long, hilly stage. Tomorrow is Prato di Tivo, I'll be ready!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/adri08_zps01755a43.jpg

And even more unexpectedly and due to a good time time trial, I take over the general classification! Amazing!

I'm very thirsty for tomorrow's stage. I want blood, and it won't be mine! I have full confidence that I can bring his jersey home, it would be an amazing achievement. The only thing lacking is a victory, though...

Until tomorrow,
Stijn & Willy

Hoping that Willy can repeat his brilliant performance of last year at Tirreno. Willy FTW.

And now its Willy's time to shine

Great race! Hope you can keep the lead. Wink

Ian Butler
TTspecialist - Thanks Wink

BikeRoel - Unexpectedly but he did great!

FreitasPCM - Valverde was real strong. his mountain stat is a lot weaker, though, that might be helpful later on!

wogsrus - Let's hope so, thanks Wink

sutty68 - Sure is Grin Complementary, those two!

MrUfo87 - Thanks, I hope so, too Smile

Tirreno - Adriatico - Stage 5

This is the day of truth. The famous Prati di Tivo!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/ti01_zpsdad3332a.jpg

Iron hard. Leading the GC with a mere 5 seconds, this day was bound to turn into a battlefield!

Stijn Van Gent

Everyone had to chip in today. I did my fair share of the work and took over 100 km for my account, of course with the help of some team mates. Everyone worked their asses off today!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/ti02_zps0f21d753.jpg

When the attacks came, most of the team were flat out already. Just me and Clement were left to cushion part of the blow.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/ti05_zpsa5f3b526.jpg

We did one more final effort of about 4 km and that put the back door wide open.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/ti06_zps3525ef00.jpg

The rest was up to Willy!

Willy Wouters

Last year I wore this jersey, but I didn't realize what it was just yet. I'm more mature now and fully aware of what this means. I was never as focused as today. Where I picked up some (more than) beautiful stage wins last year, I'm looking to turn into a serious GC contender this year and at least for the future!

This is the photo of a focused man. No glasses to get distracted, looking at the road. I was ready for anything.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/ti03_zpsfc158550.jpg

The slippery roads in these Tirreno - Adriatico caused some minor injuries, but nothing bad.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/ti04_zps440f3952.jpg

When most of the team was flat out, thanks to their absolute beautiful work, Costa sacrificed himself for my account. A little acceleration on our part!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/ti07_zps2fe0d403.jpg

This really blew the lid off. Small groups were forming everywhere. I was in the front group, but I was alone, isolated.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/ti08_zpsdcc29757.jpg

When the two Schlecks and Vanendert started pulling hard, me and Gesink had to pass.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/ti09_zpsdfaba2e1.jpg

I didn't panic and took a few seconds to catch my breath, then I started my final maneuver.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/ti10_zpsba636b7b.jpg

And the two brothers were suddenly totally parked alongside the road! With no energy left, they passed. I suddenly had wings and overtook them!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/ti11_zps11415516.jpg

Unbelievable but it's true! I take this stage in the leader's jersey!

One more hilly stage and a final time trial. This can work!
Until tomorrow,

Great win from Willy Grin

And now he has a very healthy lead on the GC too Wink

Great win today, you really deserved it :)
