What can you say? English is influenced by too many other languages.
baseballlover312, 06-03-14 : "Nuke Moscow...Don't worry Russia, we've got plenty of love to go around your cities"
Sarah Palin, 08-03-14 (CPAC, on Russian aggression) : "The only thing that stops a bad guy with a nuke is a good guy with a nuke"

Of course they would mess this up. There was no chance they'd get it right. Oldboy is a masterpiece. You should have punched your friend for even proposing to watch the remake.

Turns out there's a storm coming up here... Apparently.
Anyway, hope I have the wind in my back when going to school

A friend of mine, being a critic for a decently reputed site, gets some movies before they're released, and occasionally invites a few of us to watch. That's how I saw the american remake of Oldboy.
I feel like crying. I knew any attempt to remake one of the greatest movies of all time would fail drastically, but I didn't know it could be this bad. It's like a random joe on the street saying "I really like what Messi does, I'll do the same". Zero possibility of being anywhere near as good
For the record, here's what I posted a while back when I learned of the remake:
The original is one of those pictures that no one, like it or not (never actually met someone who didn't love it, but I assume they exist), who's ever seen it will ever forget it, ever. The movie is completely unique and unrepeatable.
It's quite simply impossible for anyone to ever go 'what was the name of that movie where the thing happens and then the whatsit', nope, it's an experience that you'll always remember.
The thought of a remake makes me loathe everyone involved with it.
EDIT: And here are the IMDB pages of both movies
Remake - 4.7 on IMDB
Original - 8.4, in the IMDB top 100
That was bound to happen, frankly.
Most remakes, especially when performed on films from another country (especially with a different culture), tend to be worst. It implies the original film is good enough, and what makes it good is generally what's peculiar in it. Transpose it to America, make mandatory changes to have the average American Joe feel familiar, and you lose the essence of the film : it ends up being dull, at best, for those who've seen the original film first (our case for Old Boy).
Sadly, with or because of cultural agreements, little foreign films are broadcast in USA, they've to do remakes instead. Supposedly Americans wouldn't find an original film good enough, seeing familiar faces and places makes a film more bankable. Bleh...
Still, sometimes the result is quite good, like The Departed, although the original Infernal Affairs (which I saw later) was even 10x better. |

Guess who just spend 200 quid on Flights to Gran Canaria! Yep, this guy right here will be enjoying some sun and proper warm weather while training in the canaries in late February!
Gonna be unreal, since me and my college team will be treated like Pro Athletes down there! (Well, first I have to figure out a way how I am gonna afford said treatment )

The wind is incredible here. My neighbour's fence has gone
There are roughly 5,000 leaves by my back door that appear to be blowing from every tree in the area and pooling together like Japanese tourists in London.
