The 6th stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné start in Crest and ends 160 kilometres later in Grenoble. The first part is flat, than there will be 2 tough climbs (Les Jarrand & Cote des 4 Seigneurs), the last summit only 13 kilometres before the finish. With tomorrow's tough mountain stage coming up, a breakaway might have a chance here.
img440.imageshack.us/img440/3771/etappe6.jpg

76km to go
With 30 KOTM-points to be collected at the first summit, we work hard to keep the peloton together until the foot of Les Jarrand. After a few kilometres of ascending, Jelle Vanendert attacks, and surprisingly, nobody tries to follow him. Thus, he easy gets the 30 KOTM-points. The peloton is already 3'12 behind, so our Belgian climber decides to continue his solo attack.
img706.imageshack.us/img706/6404/176km.jpg

35km to go
At the summit of the Cote de la Claix, a small climb between the 2 bigger ones, Vanendert still leads with 3'52 and he starts to believe in the stage win.
But there are already some unexpected attacks in the peloton: the GC's number 3, 4 and 5 (Michael Rogers, David Moncoutié and Christophe Kern) attack shortly before the summit!
img41.imageshack.us/img41/3141/235km.jpg

30km to go
But the 3 don't get away. Then, on an uphill part before the last climb starts, it's GC's number 2 Andreas Klöden who attacks. What's happening here? But luckily for Vanendert, the pace of the chasing group remains low due to all these attacks and he stills leads with 3'44.
img546.imageshack.us/img546/4565/330km.jpg

25km to go
When Klöden realizes he can't get away, he stops attacking and the pace of the chasing group drops again. But still before the last climb starts, Christophe Kern (GC 5) attacks, and now GC-leader Contador reacts! But the same story: they don't get away, drop the pace and everybody starts looking at each other. Consequence: the gap to leader Vanendert is still 3'14.
img405.imageshack.us/img405/6138/425km.jpg

17km to go
The last climb of the day has started. The Cote des 4 Seigneurs is 6.6km long, has an average gradient of 8.2% and the summit is 13 kilometres before the finish.
Vanendert leads with 2'10 (oh my, the gap is decreasing rapidly) when Contador himself attacks. Klöden sees the danger and reacts, followed by Kern.
img163.imageshack.us/img163/3506/517km.jpg

14km to go
This time, somebody is capable of creating a gap with the others. Contador is '26 in front of a group of 14 riders, including Wilco Kelderman, but still 1'10 behind Vanendert.
img585.imageshack.us/img585/5480/614km.jpg

13km to go
Jelle Vanendert crosses the summit as the first one, collects another 20 points, and starts to descend with an advantage of 30 seconds over Contador. The chasing group, 10 riders including Kelderman, follow at 1'29.
img268.imageshack.us/img268/2744/713km.jpg

2km to go
Vanenderts luck is that Contador isn't willing to take many risks in the descend, so he stays in the lead alone after the descend. The margin is small, only 12 seconds. The chasing group is 1'13 behind.
img853.imageshack.us/img853/13/82km.jpg

Finish
Contador comes close, but it's not enough to prevent Jelle Vanendert in taking the first win of the season! Contador finishes in the same time, and will extend his lead in the GC, but with how much time?
img46.imageshack.us/img46/7663/9finish.jpg

3rd place
37 seconds, that's the gap. And to make our succes even better, Wilco Kelderman wins the sprint of this group. All riders from the top 10 are present, except David López (9th) and Thomas Voeckler (10th).

Today's winner

Word from the DS
Of course we are very happy with this unexpected win. What started with a attack to collect some KOTM-points, ended with the stage win. We won't complain about it! Also the lead in both th KOTM- and the U25-ranking are almost reassuring.

img585.imageshack.us/img585/5435/1logo.jpg

The 7th stage from Grenoble to the summit of the Megeve Cote 2000, is this Dauphinées queens stage. 175 kilometres featuring 7 KOTM-sprints, with a total of 5322 height metres, means serious business. Who can stop Contador?
img714.imageshack.us/img714/2530/etappe7.jpg

125km to go
Many climbs equals many KOTM-sprints equals many KOTM-points equals an attacking Jelle Vanendert. The leader in the KOTM-rankings has attacked again and is joined by Dutch Pieter Weening (Qantas). Vanendert wins the sprint at the Col de Plainpalais and the Cret de Chatillon. The leading duo has a gap of 8'30 to the peloton.
img13.imageshack.us/img13/3598/1125km.jpg

78km to go
Vanendert also wins the sprint of the 3rd climb, the Col de la Forclaz. Their gap to the peloton is decreasing slowly, now 7'15.
img210.imageshack.us/img210/5748/278km.jpg

26km to go
Our Belgian climber also collected the maximum amount of points divided at the summits of the next two climbs, the Col de la Croix Fry and the Col des Aravis.
Than Pieter Weening attacks near the summit of the penultimate climb, the Cote des Pontets Morette. Vanendert follows at 19 seconds. A group with Pavel Brutt (Rabobank), Sandy Casar (FDJ), Johnny Hoogerland (Vacansoleil), Gorka Izagirre (Euskaltel), Oscar Sevilla (Movistar) and last year's winner Alexandre Vinokourov (Astana) follows at 3'26 and the peloton at 4'59.
img163.imageshack.us/img163/1606/326km.jpg

14km to go
It looks like Weening has used his best legs with his attack, because in the following 12 kilometres, Vanendert could close the gap. They have reached the foot of the last climb of the dat, the Megeve Cote 2000 (14,3km at 6.6%, alt. 2040m). The 6 chasers follow at 3'58, and the peloton at 4'45.
img213.imageshack.us/img213/2661/414km.jpg

12km to go
Weening indeed wasted his energy with his attack, and has to let Vanendert go already before the first 2 kilometres of the climb. He follows at '41, the group of 6 at 3'49 and the peloton at 4'52.
img703.imageshack.us/img703/1857/512km.jpg

7km to go
After an early attack by David López and Nicholas Roche, Dries Devenyns (GC 9) is the next to attack. He gets followed by Christophe Kern (GC 5), David Moncoutié (GC 4), Alberto Contador (GC 1) and Wilco Kelderman (GC 8). This is still 4'23 behind the leader.
img714.imageshack.us/img714/5813/67km.jpg

5km to go
Pistolero is flying up the mountain. He has passed the chasing group of 6 (with Vino and Brutt) and decreased the gap to a struggling Vanendert to just 2'48. Contador has dropped al the others and seems unstoppable!
img18.imageshack.us/img18/5672/75km.jpg

4km to go
After one more kilometre, the situation is as following: 1. Vanendert, 2. Contador at 1'17, 3. Moncoutié at 2'07, 4. Klöden at 2'34, 5. Rogers at 2'48, 6. A group with Kelderman and the other GC-contenders at 3'45.
img221.imageshack.us/img221/4666/84kmb.jpg

2km to go
So close, but yet so far..... About 2 kilometres before the finish, Contador passes Vanendert, who is absolutely wasted by now. Moncoutié follows at 1'22, Klöden at 1'48, Rogers at 2'04 and the others at 2'28.
img823.imageshack.us/img823/1959/92km.jpg

Finish
And that's stage win number 3 for Alberto Contador! This is absolutely domination, he's killing the GC!. Moncoutié finishes at 1'43, Klöden and Hubert Dupont at 2'12, Kern at 2'25, Rogers at 2'33 and a group including Kelderman at 3'20. 23 riders finish outside the timelimit, what shows how tough this stage was!

Word from the DS
Our goals today were to secure the KOTM-jersey and to defend the 8th place from Kelderman in the GC. Well, we succeeded in both, so we're happy with this stage.
And Contador? A class of his own. I hope this is already is top form, else the Tour will be boring....

The last stage in this year's Dauphiné is a difficult one, with 3 steep climbs in the last 35 kilometres. When the riders finish in Megeve, there will possibly be some changes in the GC.
img10.imageshack.us/img10/7123/etappe8.jpg

86km to go
Today we have a BOTD of 3 riders: John-Lee Augustyn (Sony Ericsson), Dimitri Champion (AG2R) and Andrey Kasechkin (Lampre). They don't get allowed to take a huge advantage, the maximum gap is 4 minutes.
img39.imageshack.us/img39/3210/186km.jpg

28km to go
After the first ascend of the Cote du Vauvray (4.5km at 8.1%), the gap has decreased to 1'46 to a group with Christophe Riblon (Garmin), Linus Gerdemann (Katusha) and Hubert Dupont (AG2R) and 2'51 to the peloton.
img689.imageshack.us/img689/6852/228km.jpg

19km to go
The penultimate climb (Cote de Cordon, 5.8km at 8.9%) has started and we see Alberto Contador somewhere in the back of the peloton. He is even 1'18 behind the group Klöden-Rogers-Moncoutié-etc, and is accompanied by Wilco Kelderman. For sure, things don't look good for the GC's number 8th, but is the GC-leader only getting a drink, or is he in trouble??
img842.imageshack.us/img842/8683/319km.jpg

17km to go
The answer: Contador was thirsty. He is cruising through the field and on his way to the front of the race again. Meanwhile, Dupont has reaches the summit of the Cote de Cordon. Kasechkin and Champion follow at 1'12, a small group with Moncoutié, Klöden and Kreuziger at 1'53, a bigger group with Contador, Kern, Rogers, Devenyns, Löfkvist and Jelle Vanendert follows at 1'53 and Kelderman is already 3'32 behind.
img36.imageshack.us/img36/6577/417kmi.jpg

12km to go
The group Contador-Rogers has almost caught the group Moncoutié-Klöden, when David Moncoutié attacks, with the goal of getting at the GC-podium. Dupont still leads with 1'15.
img210.imageshack.us/img210/1857/512km.jpg

7km to go
Contador easily oevratkes the group Klöden, closes the gap with Moncoutié, leaves him behind and reaches the summit '33 behind Dupont. Moncoutié follows at '58 and the group Klöden (with Vanendert in it) at 1'57.
img823.imageshack.us/img823/2263/77km.jpg

Finish
It's a déja-vu for Contador. Just as in stage 6, he closes the gap to the leader in the final descend, but is too late to outsprint him. So the win goes, fully deserves, to Hubert Dupont, who jumps to the 7th place in the GC.
img821.imageshack.us/img821/8425/8finish.jpg

Moncoutié finishes in 3rd at '56 and Klöden beats Vanendert in the sprint for the 4th place at 1'56. Kelderman looses 5'42 today, and drops to the 11th place in the GC.

El Pistolero wins the Dauphiné with a difference of more than 7 minutes to Klöden, and takes his 3rd World Tour-stage race of the year (Pais Vasco and Romandie). Mocoutié is the big surprise with the 3rd place. Vanendert brings the team a top 10.

While a part of team was racing in the Dauphiné (and others in the Tour de Suisse) the third part of the team is racing in the Netherlands, the Delta Tour Zeeland. It's a 3-stage race, featuring one prologue and two flat stages, with expected mass sprints.
Last year, the race was won by Skil's Tom Veelers, in fornt of William Bonnet and Leonardo Duque.

Stage 1

In a pretty weak field, Sébastien Rosseler also has the luck of a great daily form and wins the 5.2 kilometre prologue in Vlissingen. Tiago Machadoe, Stef Clement and Jérome Coppel are 10 seconds slower!

Almost 200km between Middelburg and Goes. We try to set up a train for Coen Vermeltfoort and can be happy with the result. William Bonnet wins the stage, and is the new GC-leader, and Vermeltfoort takes a great 4th place!

Stage 3
The last stage is with start and finish in Terneuzen. We try to surprise the sprinters with an attack by Rosseler on the small hill 3km before the finish, but without luck. Bobbie Traksel (Landbouwkrediet) wins the sprint, and after the 2nd place from yesterday, he overtakes Bonnet in the GC and wins the Delta Tour Zeeland. Bonnet becomes 2nd, just as last year, while Rosseler takes the 3rd place.

Word from the DS
One stage win, sprinting to a 4th place and 3rd in the GC. That's not bad, considering the fact that we had no good sprinters here. So happy!

In the Dauphiné, it was a great performance from your riders, bringing you two jerseys, and a top-10. Smile
In the Delta Tour, Rosseler's win was important to determine that 3rd place. Overall, great result for Monster Energy. Smile

Next to the Dauphiné, the Tour de Suisse is the other big race that riders use as a preparation for Le Tour. The race features time trialling, flat stages and long and steep climbs in the Alps.
The record winner in the previous 75 editions, is Italian Pasquale Fornara, with 4 wins in the 1950's. Last year's race was won by Samuel Sánchez, who was too strong for the Radio Shack duo Klöden and Horner.
img710.imageshack.us/img710/4258/2samuelsanchez.jpgimg252.imageshack.us/img252/5479/32011.jpg

The route
The race starts wit a 10.7km flat prologue in the streets of Basel, that will bring differences in the GC.
img803.imageshack.us/img803/6370/etappe1z.jpg

Stage 2 from Basel to Sursee is almost flat and for the sprinters.
img822.imageshack.us/img822/5584/etappe2.jpg

The 3rd stage is more hilly, with the steep climb of the Bois du Mont to the finish.
img269.imageshack.us/img269/1376/etappe3.jpg

Then a ITT of 27km around the Mürtensee.
img17.imageshack.us/img17/9382/etappe4.jpg

Stage 5 from Biel to Sion is for the sprinters again, one easy day before 3 tough ones.
img195.imageshack.us/img195/3217/etappe5.jpg

Stage 6, from Martigny to Verbier, will shake up the GC, including 4 climbs and than a mountain top finish.
img546.imageshack.us/img546/3771/etappe6.jpg

The 163 kilometres between Acquarossa and the summit of the Sustenpass are the most difficult in this Tour de Suisse: the queens stage with 5 difficult climbs over 2000 metres altitude.
img585.imageshack.us/img585/2530/etappe7.jpg

The first half of stage 8 between Lugano and Alp Flix are flat, the last half is almost entirely ascending. This stage will decide the GC!
img707.imageshack.us/img707/7123/etappe8.jpg

The last 166 kilometres towards Zürich are flat, and will probably end in a mass sprint.

Can you call a 10.7km long prologue a prologue or a mini time trial?
img803.imageshack.us/img803/6370/etappe1z.jpg

Dutch Jos van Emden is developing in a great time trialist He beats the best time so far (by Jens Voigt) with '11 and sets the new limit at 14'23. He'll end in 5th place today.
img827.imageshack.us/img827/5038/1vanemden.jpg

Another rider who's developing into a great time trialist is British Geraint Thomas. He is 9 seconds faster than Van Emden: 14'14.
img846.imageshack.us/img846/5703/2thomas.jpg

Tony Martin is one of the favourites today, but he can't beat Thomas: 14'17, 2nd time so far.
img714.imageshack.us/img714/4859/3martin.jpg

Edvald Boasson Hagen rides the 5th time so far, '11 behind Thomas, in 14'25.
img85.imageshack.us/img85/138/4ebha.jpg

The next rider is the current TT world champion. And on home soil, Fabian Cancellara is unbeatable. He's '16 faster than Thomas: 13'58. Can this time be beaten?
img841.imageshack.us/img841/2677/5cancellara.jpg

Not by Bradley Wiggins. Wiggo is even slower than his team mate Thomas and rides the 4th time, '22 behind Spartacus.
img836.imageshack.us/img836/1673/6wiggins.jpg

Samuel Sánchez won the Tour de Suisse in 2011, and is looking for another win. He rides the 25th time, '46 behind Cancellara.
img834.imageshack.us/img834/2199/7sanchez.jpg

The last rider to start is our leader Robert Gesink. The first half of the route is good, losing only '16, but he collapses in the 2nd half, what was expected with a form of 72. He finishes in 95th position, 1'13 behind the winner.

Word from the DS
The best rider in 30th place..... Not good, but we had no expectations, with such a bad form of all the riders.

We leave Basel in stage 2 and head 149 kilometres to the southeast to the town of Sursee, near the Sempachersee. The route features a few KOTM-sprints, but will probably end in a mass sprint.
img822.imageshack.us/img822/5584/etappe2.jpg

33km to go
For some reason, our riders feel obliged to attack, whenever KOTM-points are divided. This time it is Wout Poels who does it. But strangely, none of the other riders in the peloton want to join him. So it's pretty easy for him to collect the most KOTM-points today and he will wear the KOTM-jersey tomorrow.
img713.imageshack.us/img713/8450/133km.jpg

17km to go
After the last KOTM-sprint, Poels takes it pretty easy and is caught 17 kilometres before the finish. Mass sprint today, with lots of fast sprinters: Cavendish, Goss, Greipel, Petacchi, Haussler, Kittel, Rojas and Fernandez...
img843.imageshack.us/img843/7600/217km.jpg

4km to go
The peloton is speeding next to the Sempachersee with a velocity of over 60km/h. Only Omega Pharma - Quick Step has formed a train, with Velits leading Ciolek and Farrar. The other sprinters are fighting to get in Farrar's wheel, with Petacchi and Kittel being the ones to achieve it.
img708.imageshack.us/img708/2211/34kmt.jpg

1km to go
Ciolek has done his work and now it's up to Farrar to finish the job. Kittel is starting to fall back.
img843.imageshack.us/img843/716/41km.jpg

Finish
Petacchi and Haussler stay close to Farrar, but can't overtake the American. A great win by Farrar, who can give the flowers to Velits and Ciolek, who did some great work for him. Petacchi finishes in 2nd, Haussler in 3rd and Kittel in 8th (who did beat Cav!). All the favourites finish inside the peloton, no big changes.

Word from the DS
A good stage for us, with Poels taking the KOTM-jersey and Kittel finishing in 8th. Tomorrow's stage is more difficult, with more hills including a final mad for the sprinting puncheurs or punchy sprinters (Rojas, EBH).

Sprinting on extreme in PCM11, I guess..... I suck in sprinting, but although the sprinters won't take many wins, they perform okay. They have to sprint against Cav-Farrar-Goss a lot, and that's very difficult. And when the form is bad, you don't stand a chance...
