That said, I find Rock Racing unlikely if he wants to ride for an European based team. If Rock Racing gets a Pro Cont license, I can understand Landis going to RR, but ... that's just not going to happen Wink

Besides Versus, the only other channel that covers cycling here in the us is Universal Sports, which is NBC's dedicated channel for Olympic sports. The announcers for it are beyond stupid. If you go look up important events from the Giro and Vuelta this year on youtube, you can find some videos of their coverage. Anyway, my favorite quote from this year was by the color guy for their coverage during the Nature Valley Grand Prix, which Landis was riding in. I don't remember the exact words, but the guy attributed Landis' struggles this year to a lack of confidence that came about from the whole tdf doping saga, and then finished by saying Landis is still a world-class rider.

I tend to think he is still a world class rider. I bet if he got on all the most expensive top drugs that all the other top riders are on, he'd be pretty solid. But a small team can't afford those drugs, so it's either dope witht the stuff that's easy to catch... or don't dope and look really bad.

Give him the same drugs the top teams use and his 23rd in the Tour of California becomes a top 5. I don't think he'd be at a contador/gesink/schleck type level... but he could probably equal vandevelde.

I completely agree. I'm sure that he, with the proper treatment, could be become a great rider again.

That he's an idiot makes me hope that he stays away, though Pfft

On the right drugs, Landis was dominant. Won the Tour.

On the right drugs, VdV is merely solid. A top 5 GC guy in the Tour.

So obviously... I disagree.

Perhaps I should be more clear. I believe every rider who finishes in the top 10 in a grand tour is on something. Either their on the cheap drugs... and get caught. Or they're on designer drugs, and avoid getting caught.

A doped Landis was capable of winning the biggest race in cycling. To me, that indicates that his natural ability is on par with the other top riders... he just needs to get on a team where they can afford the expensive stuff. If it weren't for the PR stuff, Radioshack would be a great fit... we all know they'll have the best stuff. I tend to think Garmin has some good stuff too... their riders seem to make big leaps when joining that team.

Moncoutie?
finished 8th in the Vuelta and 13th in the tour. He gives me hope that cycling isn't all wrong.

My personal favorite was when Danilo Di Luca (not Petacchi) won stage 2 of the Giro

I loved that too (I remember posting it here when the guy said it). The following day, I found somewhere else to watch the Giro Pfft

Saxo Bank = drugs, Garmin has zero credability after they tried/ is trying to hire Contador so yes he is on something, no doubt in my mind.

Okay... so you think he might have been doped when he was an average rider, but now that he's competing for GT's you think he's clean?

Really?

I like Garmin... to be honest I don't let the whole "he's a doper" thing interfere with my enjoyment of cycling because I believe they're all doping. But Garmin has had a lot of riders make huge strides once joining their team.

I think they have the SOTA when it comes to dope. Stuff that's pretty much impossible to detect to the point they have no fear about calling themselves a "clean" team. But Wiggins going from unable to climb a 2% grade to a top 10 tour finish? Vandevelde going from a nobody to a top 10 tour finish? Yeah... "losing weight" only goes so far. The change was better drugs.

The change could also be that most other riders have stopped doping.

Sadly, I can't find any indications on that. The average speed is still the same, the average watt output is also the same, and we still see weird, unexplainable blood values from Armstrong Pfft

If that is the case, and I am in no position to deny it, then shouldn't we be mad at UCI and WADA. I am at the point where I am sick of hearing that everyone is doped. Why aren't we catching them then? Why blame the riders? It is the UCI and WADA that are at fault. Another point that people do not talk about is the possibility of corruption of the testers and chaperones. Meaning that a rider can pay off a tester or chaperone to allow them to pass the controls/inspection.

Sorry for the venting. I am just so frustrated with the whole process.

chrica04
I am leaning more on the process of other riders that have stopped if they were. I want to believe that the ones stupid to continue are being caught but the others are changing. Look a Wiggo, he dropped so many kgs. And if others aren't dopping, he has a chance.
