All against Gilbert and he still wins Pfft
Good second place for Fuglsang

Ian: In deed. Guess this a good rce to win of you only get one win a season...

PCM rulezz: Well he had (most of) the Belgian team on his side after all...

A race that for a large part comes down to who has the most energy left at this time of the season. We have brought a very fit team with especially Fuglsang looking to carry on his great form from the worlds.
The sponsors want a top 10 and so does we!

i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/09-27-Lombardia1_zpsa9c609d9.jpg
Since we couldn’t get in a break we decided to put the pressure on on the first hill. Just to see what would happen.
When we crossed the top Fuglsang was in the front with 9 others incl. Jeppe Lykke Hartvig Nielsen. The rest of the riders come over in small groups every minute or so.
A lot of riders come back in contact on the descent, but nice to see that Jakob is among the strongest here.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/09-27-Lombardia2_zpsb49d6849.jpg
8 riders pull away on the flat and builds a decent lead. Everyone seems to be looking at us to lead so we couldn’t get away and had to do the work in the peloton instead.
Peterson, Le Mével, Serpa, Kolobnev, Astarloza, Mazzanti, Usai and Rohregger are too strong riders to just let go.
With 50 km to go the break holds 2’30’’
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/09-27-Lombardia3_zps44960f5c.jpg
And with just about 1 km to the top of the last hill Fuglsang & Co. catch up with the last bits of the break.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/09-27-Lombardia4_zpsebef9605.jpg
On the top of the hill with 10 km to the finish line Jakob feels it’s time. The others are tired, but he is not.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/09-27-Lombardia5_zps4f0bd429.jpg
He is a great descender and with 5 km to go he has a small gap to Kennaugh, which again has a small gap to Frank, Lloyd and Chavez.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/09-27-Lombardia6_zps56e48c41.jpg
Into the last km the four chasers have almost caught up with the Dane.
He gave it all he had, but in the end the race was 200 m too long. Still he gets the credit for trying and being the man to break the peloton to pieces.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/09-27-Lombardia7_zpsca053a99.jpg
Yesterday ISD – Ferrari was on one of the relegation spots, which only makes this win that much more important to the Italian team.

3rd is good and I'm having a crush on aussie rider's.

Still a great 3rd for Fuglsang. Next year is his year I think

Atlantius
PCM rulezz: He does in deed!

Miguel: 3rd in Lombardia is great, though slightly disappointing when he was alone in front so close to the line. I have a small crush on teams saving their WT-ass in this way Wink

Jakstar: Lets hope so Grin

The Rider
I Wonder if Volvo is keeping this jersey for next season?

Very aggressive in the final in that race, I reckon if Volvo waited for the sprint there might have been a better chance of a win?Smile

Atlantius
The Rider: The plan is to make a new jersey, but as my main pc is still getting fixed I might end up racing TDU with this jersey (and lousy graphics).
If we had waited for the sprint I'd expect Lloyd would still have won as he has a stronger sprint. Probably the group behind would also have been in contention and then Fuglsang was definetely not the strongest sprinter...

September Edition

Rider of the month: Igor Antón, Euskaltel – Euskadi. With his second GT-win this year he got himself a spot in the history books, although he didn’t have much ompetition in the Vuelta. Taking the GC lead on stage 2 and never looking back is still quite an achievement!
Nordic rider of the month: Jakob Fuglsang, Volvo – STARK. A brilliant win in Tour of Britain, great riding in Lombardia and two WC-medals show that this was in deed a brilliant month for the Dane.

Feature article: The final battle

With two weeks of racing left both the battle to avoid relegation from the World Tour and the battle to get promoted to WT is very much open. Here we will take a closer look at the situation right now.

Relegation
Gazprom will for sure be one of the relegated teams – not even total domination in Beijing will be able to save them.
Omega Pharma QuickStep is currently looking to take the second relgation spot, but with 83 pts to Garmin – Sharp a good effort in Beijing (for example by last years winner Peter Velits) they still have every chance to survive. Garmin on the other hand has four teams within 33 pts and even these could be threatened by a strong Tour if Beijing from Omega Pharma. Will anyone be able to copy FDJ’s achievement from 2011 when Jussi Veikkanen won the Tour of Beijing and saved his team on the very last race day of the WT?

Promotion
Cofidis have looked very strong all season and should take the first promotion spot comfortably.
The second spot has been contested by a lot of different teams and with Argos – Shimano, Colnago – CSF Inox, AG2R La Mondiale, Saur – Sojasun and FDJ – BigMat all within 350 pts on the CQ-ranking there is still a lot to ride for. It seems like FDJ have slightly more late-season momentum though, but only time will tell.

Both: Well the domination (aka the oops-I-shouldn't-have-used-pre-season-training-camp-bug"Wink in TDU gave us quite a boost in the rankings, which we still benefit from, but the team has certainly performed well throughout the netire season.

This actually isn’t a very interesting race, but for some reason our sponsors wants us to get a top 10 here. And we'll of course do our very best to give STARK a noce farewell gift!

i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/10-04-Emilia2_zps00675cb7.jpg
We’ll skip straight to the last 40 km. 10 riders have about three minutes on the peloton. Pozzovivo is in here riding for his teams chances of pro-tour while Peter Velits is looking in shape for picking up some WT-points in Tour of Beijing.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/10-04-Emilia3_zps32dbad32.jpg
Going in to the last 20 km six riders hold on to a 1’40’’ lead.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/10-04-Emilia4_zps4b6f266a.jpg
10 km. Cano Ardila and Pozzovivo has 34 seconds to the other breakers and 1’37’’ to the main favourites group
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/10-04-Emilia5_zpsa392cf97.jpg
With 21 km to go we sent Gustav to get a last batch of bottles, but he never managed to get back, so our captains have to economize with their energy to go for the top 10 rather than going all in for the victory.
That allows the front duo to still hang on to a one minute lead with 5 km to go.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/10-04-Emilia6_zps3fa6a450.jpg
The two get tired though and can’t quite hang on to the lead and with 500 m to go Fuglsang flies by Cano Ardila.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/10-04-Emilia7_zps5d37da95.jpg
We’re probably gonna hear some angry talks about not working a lot the last 20 km, but we did a lot of work in the start of the race to kkep the break within reach.
