TTspecialist - Stijn was surprisingly strong hanging on. Van Avermaet is in excellent shape, if he's this good in the National Championship, Stijn won't be hanging on to his jersey! Willy's searching, it'll take some time
wogsrus - Thanks! Stijn has been developing a lot since his year as neopro, on all levels. I wonder where it'll end with him
sutty68 - Indeed. But hats of to Van Avermaet, who's riding around like a king! |

Tour of Oman - Stage 6
The final day in the saddle. For Stijn a final test before the Belgian opening weekend!
And it's another flat one. Don't let the finish fool you, it's slightly uphill once again.
Despite being in the top 10, it's been a disappointing Tour of Oman so far. Since the only mountain points of the tour are in this stage, I thought I'd go for it, bring home a souvenir.
And I took them. At least I've got something to bring home!
My form is not very good yet. Miraculously winning Tirreno - Adriatico like last year will be impossible.
Let me move directly to the sprint. Petacchi had gone early and was going fast!
I passed him all right. It seemed none of the big sprinters was keen on today's stage and it looked like I was going for the win!
But out of my slipstream came young puncher/sprinter Favilli!
On the line he beat me, on the line! What an exciting sprint.
I wouldn't be honest if I didn't tell you I'm somewhat disappointed. Oman was an adventure and one with many ups, that's for sure, but this sprint was just too close to lose!

Omloop Het Nieuwsblad
Welcome in Gent, where the Belgian cycling year starts!
Last year, Tom Boonen took the win right before my nose, which made this my best position in a classic so far. (I consider this a classic, yes)
This year, I hoped to do better in that Belgian Jersey!
As one of the favorites and with the fitting jersey, we took full responsibility. with 70 km left to go, Roelandts attacked.
But we kept things under control and things started coming together.
When Cancellara thought it was time for thinning out the peloton, I thought I'd be good to be right on his wheel!
And as soon as I saw him getting weaker, I took over and created a little gap.
Eventually, we ended up with a 7 man group, and we were heading towards the finish together.
I tried to get Boonen's wheel, but he ended up in mine... I launched my sprint.
It was doomed from the start. He had the perfect lead-out. Revenge for the National Championship?
And exactly one year later, here we are again... 1. Boonen 2. me. Vanmarcke completes a full Belgian podium.
What a bitter pill to swallow. I was active all day but couldn't finish it.
Result
From the flash interviews:
Sporza: Tom Boonen, that's a third in a row and so you are now record-holder of wins here. How does it feel?
Tom Boonen: Great, of course. No question. I'm really happy today.
Sporza: People were whispering about you getting older. You showed them wrong today.
Tom Boonen: Partly. My experience really got me through that finale. I was afraid of the youth of Vanmarcke and Van Gent, but I never panicked and in the end, that did it.
Sporza: Take us through the final kilometer?
Tom Boonen: It was stressing for everyone. Nobody had a team-mate, so the lead-out was a bit messy. I buried myself in Van Gent's wheel and came out at the right time.
Sporza: Congratulations, and thanks.
Tom Boonen: Thanks!
Sporza: We're here with the number two of today. Stijn Van Gent, second, again?
Stijn Van Gent: I'm very disappointed. I couldn't finish it off.
Sporza: What happened?
Stijn Van Gent: I don't know. I had a good race, my legs were good. The team worked so hard. I just wasn't good enough again.
Sporza: Take us through the final sprint?
Stijn Van Gent: It was hard. Vanbilsen wasn't really sprinting so I had to go from way too far. Boonen passed me with 100m left to go and I knew it was over.
Sporza: You started the season well. What do you expect of the coming classic season?
Stijn Van Gent: Now's not the best time. I'm really disappointed right now. I can't answer that.
Sporza: Okay, thanks.
Stijn Van Gent: Yeah, thanks.
Well, I don't come off very sympathetic, but you have to understand the bitter disappointment of the moment. You arrive, completely empty, lost the sprint, then there they are with the camera... Real hard today.
I realize a second place is amazing, but after that opportunity, it's hard to swallow.
We'll see you tomorrow,
Stijn |

sutty68 - He sure is... Hope his stats start decreasing soon!
Daggen - Unfortunately, yes
BikeRoel - Let's hope so. Maybe in a classic!
baia - Indeed. Stijn's already got 3 wins but so far only 3 stages in a stage race, no single race so far!
krisa - Tell me about it hopefully in the classics he'll be there! |

Well, I'm pretty tired so no more update today, sorry
Tomorrow I'll definitely find the time to ride Kuurne - Brussel - Kuurne. (If something can be done against Boonen )
See you then! |

You definetely don't have much experience for these races,mr. Stjin, you should drive many of them, everyone knows that you can do it,you can easily beat Cancellara and Boonen, buuut some tactic is important |
