June preview

img39.imageshack.us/img39/536/12june.jpg
The most important races in June are the Critérium Dauphinée and the Tour de Suisse. Further, we ride some races that are important for the sponsors (hey, we're Benelux-based): Tour de Luxembourg, Tour de Rijke, Delta Tour Zeeland and the Ster ZLM Tour.
- Skoda - Tour de Luxembourg: our young riders take part there, so no goals.
- Tour de Rijke: stil don't know who will ride there, proably those who are available.
- Delta Tour Zeeland: Rosseler and Vanmarcke will aim for a Top 3.
- Critérium Dauphinée: Kelderman and Vanendert will ride for the GC, Sagan for the sprints. The last two will use it to get in form for the Tour de France.
- Tour de Suisse: Remember Gesink? He starts in a very tough Tour de Suisse, together with Dekker and Kittel.
- Ster ZLM Tour: again, young riders.

After these races, the NC's are raced. And jut like last season, I'll simulate them all.

Good luck in June, and hope Gesink gets away from any possible injuries during this month. Smile

Our team
img140.imageshack.us/img140/5042/5ploeg.jpg

The favourites
*** Fabian Cancellara (Radio Shack), Geraint Thomas (Sky), Jerome Coppel (Veranda's)
** Denis Menchov (Sony Ericsson), Mark Cavendish (Sky), Jens Voigt (Radio Shack)
* Sylvain Chavanel (Garmin), Juan Antonio Flecha (Sky), Paul Martens (Rabobank)

Our goals
We have no expectations. Lieuwe Westra, who finished as 3rd last year is out of form (70), so we hope that Romain Zingle (89) can ride a decent GC. Probably, the Top 10 is too much to ask for.

When I tell you guys that our best placed rider finished in 39th position, '30 behind the winner, you know enough. Not a good start of the Tour de Luxembourg. Romain Zingle was the fastest, one second faster than Lieuwe Westra.
img18.imageshack.us/img18/5640/7zingle.jpg

The 3rd place goes to Sony Ericsson's Denis Menchov in 6'53.
img715.imageshack.us/img715/8116/8menchov.jpg

Geraint Thomas (Team Sky) is less than a second faster, also 6'53, and sets the fastest time so far.
img401.imageshack.us/img401/6937/9thomas.jpg

One man to go: the reigning TT-world champion Fabian Cancellara. He crushes the time of his opponents with 14 seconds and wins the prologue in a time of 6'39.

Stage 2 from Luxembourg to Bascharage. 174 kilometres with the first part hilly, the second part flat terrain.
img190.imageshack.us/img190/6658/13etappe2.jpg

A group of 8 riders take a maximum advantage of 10 minutes, which decreases rapidly when Team Sky takes the lead of the peloton, trying to bring their sprinter Mark Cavendish the win here.
In this BOTD are: Jasper Bovenhuis (Rabo CT), Remco Broers (Team Differdange), Edwig Cammaerts (Landbouwkrediet), Maxim Debusschere (An Post), Thomas Degand (Veranda's Willems), Geert Omloop (Omega Pharma), Michael Van Staeyen (Topsport Vlaanderen) and Kamil Zielinski (CCC).
img689.imageshack.us/img689/8773/14botd.jpg

With 25 kilometres to go, when the gap to the leaders is only 1'15, Team Sky suddenly stops the chase. Apparently, Cavendish isn't feeling well today. So the pace drops and none of the other teams is interested in taking over. Steve Chainel (FDJ) attacks and closes the gap to the 8 leaders.
It's a 9-man sprint for the win, and Edvig Cammaerts is the fastest. With his first win in over 2 years, he gives his Landbouwkrediet-team important points in the race to promote to the World Tour. Cammaerts also takes the lead in the GC.
The peloton finishes at 1'54. Lieuwe Westra is the best ranked from our team in place 15. In the GC, Romain Zingle drops to 44th.
Tomorrow is the decisive day, with the Col de l'Europe!

Hey, we don't have a sprinter that can get a top 5 here, so don't blame us for not chasing the BOTD. Our riders had a nice day in the Luxembourg country!
imageshack.us/a/img171/3023/petronasmesig2.png

Looking a bit hard to get a nice result there, but at least there are no goals for the race. Pfft

sutty68
Luxembourg isn't being good to you at the moment, but hopefully things will changeFrown

dienblad
@ FreitasPCM: No goals, so I don't bother in this race.

@ sutty68: really don't care about Luxembourg, as I use this race to get some others in a better form (like Westra) and give the young ones to get some more racedays. The Dauphinée and Tour de Suisse are more important!
imageshack.us/a/img171/3023/petronasmesig2.png

Stage 3 is the "queen's stage", with 180 kilometres between Schifflange and Differdange, with 3 times the ascend of the Col de l'Europe.
img11.imageshack.us/img11/3485/18etappe3.jpg

A group of 13 form the BOTD, but when the 3 laps in Differdange start, only 8 are in the leading group. Manuel Medina (Doncker's), Christian Poos (Differdange), Bjorn Selander (Radio Shack), Maryan Hary (Cofidis), Kenny van Hummel (M&M's), Stephan van Vooren (Topsport), Philip Lavery (An Post) and, surprisingly, Mark Cavenidh (Sky). The maximum lead is 7 minutes.
img39.imageshack.us/img39/4794/19botd.jpg

The chasing peloton is thinning out with every ascend, and so does the leading group. One rider remains up front, French Maryan Hary, and one rider can bridge gap to him out of the peloton: Sony Ericsson's Denis Menchov. Entering the last lap, 8km to go, they have a 33 second lead over a group of 19 riders, including Romain Zingle.
img23.imageshack.us/img23/6823/208km.jpg

As expected, Menchov drops Hary in the final ascend of the Col de l'Europe. 8 riders (including Zingle!) can ride away from the others in the chase, but are too late to battle for the win. So it's Menchov who takes his first win of the season, and he's getting in shape for the Tour de France!
img717.imageshack.us/img717/7372/21finish.jpg

52 seconds behind Menchov, it's Paul Martens who wins the sprint for place 2, beating Sylvain Chavanel. Romain Zingle finishes in a great 5th place!

Stage 4 from Eschweiler to Roost over 169 kilometres, provides some chances for the GC-contenders. The first part of the route is hilly, and on the final circuit, there is a short steep climb located about 2km before the finish.
img41.imageshack.us/img41/9783/25etappe4.jpg

A group of 10 riders, none of them dangerous for the GC are gonna battle it out for the win today. The peloton isn't interested today in the stage win, so Gene Michael Bates (Lotto), Jasper Bovenhuis (Rabo CT), Thomas Degand (Veranda's Willems), Huub Duyn (Donckers Koffie), Andrew Fenn (An Post), Amaël Moinard (BMC), Thomas Rabou (Rabo CT), Anthony Roux (FDJ), Pieter Vanspeybroeck (Topsport) and Ronan Van Zandbeek (M&M's) will sprint for the win. Surprisingly, Great Britains Andrew Fenn is the strongest, beating Vanspeybroeck and Duyn. The peloton finishes 2'35 behind and there are no changes in the top 10 of the GC.

Word from the DS:
Another stage closer to the end of the Tour de Luxembourg and a Top 10 for Zingle. And Jens Mulder and Thibault Dupont have abandoned the Tour. We don't think they'll be useful tomorrow, so they can start in the Tour de Rijke, which is also raced tomorrow.

The 5th and last stage, from Mersch to Luxembourg.
img259.imageshack.us/img259/3108/29etappe5.jpg

Again, a breakaway makes it untill the finish. William Bonnet (FDJ), Thomas Rabou (Rabo CT), Arnoud Van Groen (Veranda's Willems), Luis Ángel Maté (Cofidis), Martin Reimer (M&M's), Dominique Cornu (Lotto), Maxim Debusschere (An Post), Amaël Moinard (BMC) and Michael Tronborg (Differdange) are the ones today. Unfortunately for Tronborg, he has a puncture and can't close the gap to the others anymore.
William Bonnet is the favourite to win the sprint, and he easily does it, in front of Rabou and Van Groen. He already takes his 8th win of the season!
img256.imageshack.us/img256/9869/30finish.jpg

The peloton finishes 3'12 behind, without changes in the GC. Denis Menchov wins the Tour de Luxembourg 2012, and Romain Zingle, who crosses the finish side by side with Menchov, ends the Tour de Luxembourg in 10th place.
