Leader of general classification Sergio Ribeiro from Barbot wins Stage 2 of Volta a Portugal. As yesterday he again outsprinted Francesco Gavazzi from Lampre.
The only difference today is just that the stage ended in a 2nd category, 6km climb with slopes higher than 7%.
About Dekker. Totally off the race... Dropped right in the first meters of the climb.

But still it was a pretty big group at the finish. And I was little disappointed with the last climb, because the attacks came only during the last km, when there were these slopes, that you mentioned, where somebody could have tried to blow up this group. |

Tomorrow's another mountain stage, a harder one, some might have waited until tomorrow to try their luck. |

Sure, this one was just an appetizer, more of a stage for puncheurs rather than real climbers, though I didn't expect to see such a diminished group at the beggining of the climb. Anyway as you said Freitas, Sra da Graça tomorrow is the first test for the real contenders. I can't wait for it. I would bet on Cabreira to complete his hattrick of victories there, but Broco seems the fittest to me.

Post Danmark Rundt, Stage 5: Helsingor I.T.T. (14.2 km)
1. Richie Porte (AUS) SaxoBank - Sungard 15'09"
2. Gustav Larsson (SWE) SaxoBank - Sungard 10"
3. Alex Dowsett (GBR) Sky Professional Cycling Team 17"
4. Rasmus Quaade (DEN) Team Concordia Forsikring - Himmerland 24"
5. Simon Gerrans (AUS) Sky Professional Cycling Team 29"
6. Jack Bobridge (AUS) Team Garmin - Cervélo 30"
7. Daniele Bennati (ITA) Leopard - Trek 31"
8. Jakob Fuglsang (DEN) Leopard - Trek 35"
9. Grischa Niermann (GER) Rabobank 37"
10. Damien Gaudin (FRA) Europcar 41"
Gerrans rode the time trial of his live and keeps the leader's jersey. Breschel's time sucked balls. |

So after this perfomance we can expect Rasmus Quaade will ride for Saxo Bank next year? Hopefully.

I expect Quaade to have his focus on the Olympics next year and then switch his focus to the road. And he hasn't really made any results worth mentioning on the road besides in TTs.

Question about the Eneco Tour
On their Particpants page they list all the members of the team, but 2 from each team have and (r) at the end of their name. There are also 10 on each list.
ie
HTC-HIGHROAD
1 Brammeier, Matt
2 Bak, Lars Ytting
3 Eisel, Bernhard
4 Ghyselinck, Jan
5 Grabsch, Bert
6 Rabon, Frantisek
7 Rasmussen, Alex
8 Renshaw, Mark
9 Goss, Matthew (r)
10 Howard, Leigh (r)
Now, I assume (r) means reserve, but why would HTC have 2 sprinter reserves? And at what point is the reserve dropped, because he clearly can't join the tour once it has started....

I would guess the reserve is there if someone gets an injury or something just before the enecotour starts.

Yes. Teams have to announce their roster a while before the race (make it a week or two). Yet, they don't know what may happen to their riders (illness, injury, etc.), so they register reserves too, just in case.
I don't think they're allowed to pick riders that are not listed as reserves if something happens past the registration of riders. |

Matti Breschel has withdrawn from Tour of Denmark due to illness. Saw it coming I must say, he hasn't been looking his usual self yet, plus he's just back from injury more or less. Now it's Vuelta and WC!

Mikel Landa from Euskaltel wins final stage of Vuelta a Burgos, while Purito wins general classification. Purito's main rival in GC - Samu Sanchez cracked 2 km from finish and finished 1:14 after his teammate Landa.
Inigo Cuesta crosses the finish line after ~10 minutes in his final race as a professional.

Nice for him. First win as a pro.

Shame he won't race the Vuelta. It would be a better race for his goodbye. |

And what a win! He has been working since the start of the stage for Samuel just to the moment that Samuel cracked when Landa attacked. J.J. Cobo and Purito catched them but even with that he beat Cobo in the sprint. Joaquin let them the stage win.

Hernani Broco wins the 3rd stage in the top of Sra. da Graça, ahead of Ricardo Mestre, with André Cardoso and Virgilio Santos following. |

I know I am a bit partial in this case. But is not Tobias Ludvigsson (Skil - Shimano) 16 place overall in Vuelta Burgos fairly good of a trainee? |

Yes it is. That's why Skil gave him a contract. |

Taylor Phinney of BMC wins the Prologue of the Eneco Tour, the only person to get under the 7 minute mark.

Well they gave him a contract before he ended 16th in the GC didn´t they?
But you maybe meant they gave him the contract because he looked good before the race too anyway happy that one more swede shows some talent! |
