It was a penalty. The Ivory Coast player pushed Samaras on back and even made a back contact on his legs (literally kicked him), which Greek, of course, used well and just fell down perfectly.
I am pissed off because of Greece advancing, too, as it's absolutely not deserved.

Yeah but did you see Costa Rica today?
They had a good day twice. Look at their qualifying campaign and friendlies for their real level
Then again...eredivisie+rvp/robben isn't exactly much better |

It was a clear penalty, well done ref. He kicked the ground because he got tripped up from behind.

Greece was great there. Just plain commitment from all of their players. They got lucky in the end with the penalty but the ref got it right in my view.
Both Ivory Coast and Japan played better football than them, but their lack in talent is compensated in commitment and team-play.
Anyway, I hope they don't go supersayan mode and win the tournament with their horrendous football like in 04.
Also despite some terribly refereed matches this has been a magnificent world cup so far.

Feel sorry for Ivory Coast. They were so close, only one minute to go and then they got a penalty against them. Nevertheless I think that both Greece and Ivory Coast will/would lose from Costa Rica, because they seem very strong.

As I'm one of the guys that really doesnt like watching a football-match anymore (I used to do it, but players as Cristiano Ronaldo and his schwalbes has stopped me from doing it), I've watched a few matches a more summaries (?). And I must say, what a terrible WC this is.
- Despite some good referees (the one with Netherlands - Chili), most of the really suck. Giving penalties that aren't, not giving penalties that are, not giving red cards to cannibalistic maniacs...
- Play to get a result is far more effective than good play.
- What is wrong with the European teams? (England, Spain, Italy...)
- Luis Suarez is the Ricardo Ricco of football
- And Germany will win the WC, as Football WC is a game of 32 countries and in the end the Germans will win....

I'd like to second that. Really enjoyable with lots of surprises, of course some boring matches, but far more intense and spectacular ones, especially more than average.

No way Ivory Coast were better this game. Defenders fault it is a penalty all day long. |

I don't agree at all, think this WC has been excellent so far. LOTS of goals and good play, sure the refs have been inconsistent but mostly good i feel, some massive mistakes that make everyone think every ref has been bad when that's not the case. Another really cool thing is the "bad" countries such as Costa Rica, USA, Iran and Algeria have stood up really well and have shown they are not bad Overall a great WC so far, the only thing we're missing are some great freekick goals or big shots from 25+ meter. |

Ban that idiot for rest of the life from all football games. Absolute disgrace i hope FIFA is not that corrupted and will kick suarez out of WC. His mental capabilities are not high enough to let him play with other people...

Honestly what I think happened is Suarez went to headbutt him and Chiellini went to give him a little check with his shoulder at the same time and the result is his shoulder getting bashed right into Suarez' teeth.
No way, it's Suarez... Look at the replay, it's quite clear that his only intention there was to bite Chiellini. He's a braindead little cunt who should get locked up.
The replays I've seen aren't conclusive, and if the photo ruben provided isn't shopped then the markings on his shoulder dont really look like the markings of a bite but more like when you graze your shoulder against someones teeth.

Look at his head movement. Pretty hard to get a good bite down while moving your head like he does, at the speed he does
Valv please, stop making fool of yourself

That's FIFA official talk, so don't get your hopes too high.
If the referee saw both fouls (the bite and the elbow to the face) and didn't sanction either because of continuous aggressions of both players before this incident, neither Suarez nor Chiellini can be sanctioned later, no matter what. |

New angle on Suarez biting... which kind of proves definitively that he did it:

Sadly, the sequence of images only shows the bite which was obvious from the start. I would have liked to see whether Chiellini struck Suarez down with his elbow or not, because this could have changed the decision of the referee.
(To clear things, I don't want to defend Suarez. I really hope that the ref didn't see either, so that Suarez can get sanctioned.)
