So apparently he thinks that he would probably be able to follow the front group, he says you need also some luck to become world champion, which he did not have, rather nice portion of bad luck and lack of teammates.
Well, he will have more chances in the future.

Even without bad luck I doubt Sagan would have been there at the end on that course, he will win a WC at some stage but not on a course like that one
