I enjoy watching highlights - I don't particularly enjoy watching cyclists doing nothing - just a personal preference, I hardly ever watch a full or live race, except for sprints or time trials
10 reasons why rugby is better than football, from the Times
1 The beautiful game
How can football be called beautiful when players fall over every five paces? Now, a rolling maul, when a phalanx of eight men drives the ball 30 yards, that is real beauty.
2 A man’s game
Wayne Shelford, the former All Blacks No 8, had his scrotum ripped open by France and played on. Dida, the AC Milan goalkeeper, got flicked on the cheek by a fan and was carried off.
ALSO - An Argentine player got slapped full on in the face yesterday - the referee and linesman were both concerned and had words with the Argentine, for making the most of it, and considered penalising him
3 A family game
Children are always welcome at rugby games and often toddlers wander up and down the touchline without fear. If you kick one between the uprights, it’s three points.
4 A (responsible) drinking game
An overheard phone conversation from a football fan behind me at the Varsity match a few years ago: “It’s very different to Villa Park, everyone is drinking from hip flasks.”
5 A fraternal game
Supporters are trusted to watch the game side-by-side without armed police at hand. Getting plastered in the clubhouse with the opposition’s fans afterwards is encouraged.
6 An unglamorous game
Apart from Gabby Logan, who was famous before she married Kenny, can you name a single famous rugby wife or girlfriend? No? And isn’t that an excellent thing?
7 A musical game
Football songs are dull, repetitive and lack much wit. Rugby songs, especially if sung by the Welsh, are tuneful and fun. Even the one about the bishop and the celery.
8 A respectful game
Rugby fans treat match officials with the esteem they deserve. Whilst football players shout out, "Are you ****ing blind?" You w*****!!!" rugby players tell the ref to “Watch out for the high tackles, sir.”. Closely followed by: “Are you ****ing blind, sir? You w*****, sir.”
9 A dramatic but untheatrical game
Why do footballers make such a song and dance of everything? If you aren’t injured, don’t fall over. If you get thumped, thump him back – and then have a drink together.
10 A game at which England can beat Germany
Germany are No 26 in rugby union’s world rankings; England are sixth. They are not likely ever to meet – and if they do, Jonny will ensure that we never lose on penalties.

Well there was 1 try by the english, and it didn't get counted, but if you ask me, his leg was not on the ground at that moment the ball hit the back line. The video ref was blind |

Having not seen the game, all I know about it is from Radio Five Live where people called in to discuss the match with John Inverdale and Matt Dawson.
The general consensus with the Cueto non-try is that it was not a try and he was in touch. Sure, if you look at it from a certain angle it may look a try, but he was in touch it doesnt matter how far in touch you are, it still wont caught.
Any englishman blaming the referee is just a whinger and a sore loser, dont lower yourself to the level of the Aussies or the Kiwis - I think the New Zealanders are still going on about their 'poor' referee in their loss against france.
And Ruben: Im sure you'd find it interesting if:
A) Netherlands were good at it
B ) You wanted to find it interesting instead of watching it expecting it to be some rubbish game that you can then post on here saying its rubbish
C) You watched more than the one game
D) You played one of EA's Rugby games ~ they really helped me learn the rules of rugby

SportingNonsense, I'm not generally a chauvinist. Only at cycling actually. We Dutch are (supposed to be) good at soccer, yet I don't give a fuck about our national team. Because frankly, they don't play nice and I only like a few players.
We also (suppose to, again) rule at field hockey, but, I don't give a rats ass about hockey, I really couldn't care less about that sport. Same goes for rowing (some categories we are good at appearently) or swimming (Vd hoogenband and co).
I don't care about those sports, even though some Ducht rule. So you don't seem to know me well enough. Nice try though. |

No rugby game has ever surpassed Jonah Lomu Rugby, which was from about 1997

Of course, but the game play more than made up for it - no rugby game has come even close to it, and probably never will unless they remake it

Crommy said it's a game not the only game. Other sports include Cricket, Track Cycling, Golf, F1, Football (*cough* 5-1 *cough*), Snooker, Boxing etc etc

Well I'm not trying to be anti-english but I'm glad South Africa won. They were the best team in the whole competition and England were lucky to make it to the final. Plus I dont think I can take anymore "we're world champions, we're England" crap on supposedly British television like when England won four years ago. Strange how rugby union became one of the most important sports after they won, now its being swept under the carpet again (I've watched Sky Sport news - 10 whole minutes on the lost rugby final before the football, last time 4 years ago the WHOLE program) and rugby league will become more popular again |

That cup was very, very small, considering it was the World Championship cup |

Rugby league won't overtake union again, but couldn't agree with you more

You're right crommy, there are lots of sports where English are better but not in football(NEVER)
I think England should be happy if they manage to qualify for 2008B)
