Gesink said against the NOS (dutch tv) that he was the worst rider of the team and had a bad day, 15km before the finish he was empty and didn't take over.
Seems the entire team is simply in bad shape. Posthuma and Clement who had to let go (two of who you would expect the most), Menchov falling, Gesink not good.. Freire hasn't done 1 sprint yet

At 1'05 down at the third check, at least Silence isn't falling (much) farther behind than they were at the second check. We'll just have to see how much better the top 4 teams are than the rest of the field.
EDIT: 1'12 down at the end (so far). With the top 4 teams setting off right now, we'll see how that works out.

Interesting Ruben - perhaps Rabo spent a little too much in the Giro (Menchov and Ten Dam) and Gesink was pretty active in teh Dauphine.
Or just having a bad start - I mean the real tour is Stage 15 to 20. |
