G.P. Camaiore
Today’s tactic is simple: Let the other teams work half through the race, then attack with one rider on each hill towards the finish.
Our tactic resulted in a break of 20 men with three hills left. Gavazzi and Moser are there from our team. They have trouble with being organized, while Acqua & Sapone are driving like mad dogs behind.
Last hill, and Stubbe is going with Paolini on his wheel! I’m countering immediately.
Di Luca realizes this will be a decisive move by us, and with 6 km to go, he’s launching an attack too! It may be too late, because my group has more than a minute right now!
The sprint starts, and I’m in a bad position. Stubbe is trying to go, and he gets a gap, ‘cause the only person willing to go after him is Tjallingii, who’s stiff as a stick. He got some meters before Scognamiglio opened the sprint for real, and he was eaten up.
And Paolini was clearly the strongest sprinter in the group, so he won the whole thing. Fourth isn’t that bad, but I knew I could’ve done better. I’m still in a “bad” shape, though, but I’m feeling my form is improving just right If I’ll be able to peak for my target (Which I didn't do well this spring)
Results:
1 Luca Paolini Acqua & Sapone - Caffé Mokambo 4h52'28
2 Carlo Scognamiglio Barloworld s.t.

Tre Valle Varesine
Damn, a flood! Luckily the water stand wasn’t very high, so we got over it without any major problems.
The break. Many guys were there, and they held a quite good lead too. Maybe to good?
They had gotten far too much time, and CSF was pacing all they could. Still it wasn’t enough. Would this break actually last?
I had planned to attack at the bottom of the last climb, but when the break had such a good lead, I had to go on the flats instead, with 5 km to go.
1,7 km left, and I have caught the group. But it will be hard to get a decent position, and I’m pretty tired. Plus the pack is coming from behind…
We’re all caught by the pack in the last corner, but Marzano and Pietropolli are too far ahead to be catched.
And Marzano won, just ahead of Pietropolli! I didn’t have much left to sprint with, so I ended up outside top-ten.
Results:
1 Marco Marzano Lampre - N.G.C 4h56'31
2 Daniele Pietropolli LPR Brakes Farnese Vini s.t.
3 Eddy Ratti Amica Chips - Knauf + 21
4 Daniel Fleeman Cervélo Test Team s.t.
5 Domenico Pozzovivo CSF Group - Navigare s.t.

9 Pierpaolo Tondo Miche - Silver Cross - Selle Italia s.t.

Coppa Bernocchi
The same route as the first stage of Tirreno-Adriatico this year.
The break. Spezialetti and Kvasina are there.
Quite windy todaym so CSF tries to split the pack. Cervélo joins in too. I’m on the right side together with Rigotoo, A. Bertolini and Belletti.
Last climb and Sastre goes! Pozzovivo jumps on his tail, and I’m going too! Bosisio tries to do something, but is brought back.
I made it to the front group, and I’m sitting with Sastre and Pozzo over the climb. I’ve ran out of energy, so I’m trying to gain some back by wheelsucking the two others. Looks like Sastre is discussing something with Pozzovivo…
Only a few kilometers left, and Pozzovivo goes! This is very dangerous, but I don’t have enough energy to counter.
Sastre doesn’t have anything left either, so I’m trying to bridge the gap myself. Only 600 meters left!
I couldn’t do anything with Pozzovivo, but at least I got a second. Sastre just couldn’t match me in the sprint.
Results:
1 Domenico Pozzovivo CSF Group - Navigare 3h59'03
2 Francesco Ginanni Serramenti PVC Diquigiovanni - Androni Giocattoli s.t.
3 Carlos Sastre Cervélo Test Team s.t.
4 Leonardo Bertagnolli Amica Chips - Knauf + 1'05
5 Jussi Veikkanen Française des Jeux s.t.
6 Jacopo Guarnieri Liquigas s.t.
7 Frederik Willems Liquigas s.t.
8 Óscar Pujol Cervélo Test Team s.t.
9 Philip Deignan Cervélo Test Team s.t.
10 Dainius Kairelis Ceramica Flaminia - Bossini Docce s.t. |
