Stage 20, and the stage that would have been the decisive stage for the overall, if it hadn't been for those enormous time gaps. Anyway, Pliuschin will really hunt the stage win today, as he really wants his first ever stage win in a Grand Tour, and this is probably his last chance, because in the Tour, he won't be anything, but a helper to Valverde.
Jose Ivan Gutierrez from Caisse d'Epargne made a great time. He flew through the 55 kilometres in 1h18'03. Surely no one could beat him?
Both Phinney and Malori did great time trials, they actually gained a bit time on Gutierrez from the last split time to the finish line. That definately moved my motivation up 10 levels when Pliuschin came only 12 seconds away from Gutierrez at the first time check. And just a 1 kilometer later, he caught his two minute-man, the "chicken" Rasmussen.
Pliuschin lost a little to Gutierrez from the first to the second time check, he was now 16 seconds behind, but had he saved some energy?
Yes, he had He delivered an amazing finish, catching his 4 minute-man on the line, and that was no less than Pereiro. He could look at the table, and he had taken the lead with 54 great seconds! Amazing.
I totally forgot about the distance up to Di Luca, but he is only 9 seconds behind him after this time trial. And guess what, there's a sprint halfaway on tomorrow's final stage that gives 10 seconds to the winner. Pliuschin will do all he can to get those 10 bonus seconds.
Pliuschin was climbing to the top of the podium for his very first time on a "real" GT stage (I won't say the prologue is a "real" stage, as they are just too easy to win). Wonderful

Here we are, at the final stage of this year Giro, the final stage of Pliuschin's adventure. He just hopes to make it even better on this stage, Alessandria-Milano. Having an intermediate sprint after approximately 50 kilometres of this stage. He knows that our team will bleed for those 10 seconds. He knows that our team will die for those 10 seconds. It is just up to him.
There were lots of attacks at the beginning of the stage, we didn't put any of our riders in those attacks, all of them were going to do whatever they can do chase them down, BEFORE the intermediate sprint. That's crucial if we are going to get 4th in this adventure.
We started the chase and I felt we were in control.
But we weren't. Just 9 kilometres from the magical line, Pellizotti attacked for Liquigas. What was I going to do? I sat our riders to the front, relaying at 110%, we had to catch him. Luckily he stopped attacking right after we hit the front of the pack. But then, with 6.3 kilometres to the line, Blaudzun attacked for CSC, what was he thinking about? Was he going to stop the party immediately?
Pliuschin decided it was time to go, he wasn't going to let Blaudzun slip away, then he wouldn't forgive himself. Liquigas seemed to have missed this move, as they started to chase Pliuschin way too late. He was off! Now it was just Blaudzun that was in the way.
Blaudzun couldn't keep up the attack, he had to eat, Pliuschin was smart enough to eat his first of seconds "meals" before he had to go. He was on his way to fourth! And yes, he made it. What an awesome feeling
Di Luca only managed 4th on the sprint, and no bonus seconds, it was perfect. Now we just had to lead him safe to the finish line. That wouldn't be dramatic I thought, but I was proved wrong. When the sprint started, the front 15 was sprinting so fast that they made a gap. Di Luca was there, Pliuschin was not.....Luckily we had Phinney up there. I told him to slow down, and try to hit the finish line between those group, and cancel the time gaps. He did it, and we had secured our fourth in this Giro adventure. Great job of Pliuschin, but he wouldn't had make it if it wasn't for Phinney on this very last stage.
Boasson Hagen took the sprint, he just showed how good he actually is, a world class sprinter. Hopefully, he wants to go home next season.
Pliuschin also took the youth jersey, Maglia Bianca. Great work from our whole team, we had made it!

Thanks to both, it was unbelieveable when I realized that I got the sprint. It was also unbelieveable when I realized that Di Luca was slipping away from me in the sprint. And it was fantastic when I realized I had Phinney in the front group, pure luck, and it was indescripable when I saw the result lists and I didn't see any time gaps, and that Pliuschin took 4th |

Yeah but Pliuschin could losy the contact with the bunch after that sprint, his energy lever after that was very poor

I know, but I had to take that risk if I wanted the 4th spot, because I would definately not have stand a chance in the bunch sprint with Pliuschin's 66 in sprint. |

Valverde was again only looking for race days, and I as manager was looking to test my new way of riding the team time trial. We brought a weak squad, it was only Valverde and Pervis that was 67+ on time trialling, so it would be a challenge to take the opening stage.
I forgot screenshots from the race itself, all I got was a picture of the podium from the team time trial. We won it!!
Valverde couldn't continue in that way, he faded on the results list. In the end he was 9th overall, I have to say I was pleased with his performance, he was on his way to the Tour form

The preparations for the Tour starts. We sended Pliuschin for the overall, he will be a great team mate for Valverde if he doesn't fade too much after his amazing Giro.
Dauphine Libere started with a very short prologue, only 2 kilometres, my riders had to give it all from the very first pedal.
It seemed quite clear that Cancellara wasn't in form now, he was preparing for the Tour and the Worlds later this season, he ended a massive 32 seconds behind the winner.
Konovalovas did a great prologue, he ended the day in top 10, he was 9th, 12 seconds behind the winner.
The fastest guys pedalled too fast for the photograph, but Pliuschin and Zabriskie delivered stunning performances, they crushed the opponents. A great 1-2 for us!
We were the dominating team on this opening prolouge, we had all 8 inside top 20, we leaded it with 18 seconds down to Gerolsteiner.
