Stage 3 - Vuelta a Castilla y Leon (uncropped images are back as they are winning the poll)
Ruben Perez had a go at the breakaway today. Seeing as the other sprinters were much too strong in a reguler sprint this seems to be his best option.
But they're caught with 30km to go. At 17.3km to go the pace is stepped up. Sanchez will attempt to put himself up front today.
2,9km to go, Sanchez is powering forward. Bäckstedt is there on his right and so is Vicioso behind his lead-out man. Can he do something here?
No chance for Sanches as Murilo Fischer of Liquigas takes it in front of Paolini and Vicioso.

Stage 4 - Vuelta a Castilla y Leon
The mountainfinish is upon us. We're hoping that either Sanchez or Martinez can do something here despite their poor fitness levels. We join the race with 110km to go. 9 riders broke away today and kept a good pace.
But with 40km to go they're almost caught. Time to get the boys up front.
At the foot of the climb Cobo attacks on the left. Sanchez pushes the tempo up with Anton in front of him. 11km to go.
Martinez works a lot and catches Cobo on the way up the mountain. With 2.8km to go Toni Colom, Ruben Plaza, LL. Sanchez are in front. Cobo tries to strike again!
And Cobo manages to bridge the gap to the 3 riders in front. Sanchez however can't hang on and is caught within the last 1000m by the charging pack.
Plaza takes 1st, Colom 2nd and LL. Sanchez 3rd.

Not really a great race by us. We haven't achieved anything really. Goes to show, fitness means everything!

Stage 5 - Vuleta a Castilla y Leon
Two large hills in the middle of the stage today. Sanchez has not given up hope of a stagewin yet! 96km to go. The breakaway is breaking up as they near the top of the first climb. They hold a 7½ minute lead over the peleton.
At 65km to go the break still holds a huge lead. Martinez figures he has nothing to lose and tries to break away on the last climb.
But Caisse reel him in quick. 38km out and a trio has formed in front. They hold a strong lead over the pack still. This might work!
20km to go. LL Sanchez attacks! Sammy counters him and they're joined by Santiago Botero.
The duo up front are going to make it home though. It's Adrián Palomares of Contentpolis - Murcia and Alberto Fernandez og Saunier Duval.
It's Adrian Palomares! Great win for the small team!
And here come Sanchez, LL. Sanchez and Botero. They've got quite a gap behind them. This could mean we advance a bit in the GC!
1 Adrián Palomares Contentpolis - Murcia
2 Alberto Fernández Saunier Duval - Scott
3 Jackson Rodríguez Serramenti PVC Diquigiovanni - Androni Giocattoli
4 Sergio Ghisalberti Team Milram
5 Héctor Guerra Liberty Seguros
6 Chechu Rubiera Astana Cycling Team
7 Constantino Zaballa LA - MSS - Póvoa de Varzím
8 Santiago Botero Rock Racing
9 Luis León Sánchez Caisse d'Epargne
10 Iñigo Cuesta Team CSC - Saxo Bank
11 Samuel Sánchez Euskaltel - Euskadi
12 Toni Colom Astana Cycling Team
13 Ángel Vicioso LA - MSS - Póvoa de Varzím
14 Carlos Castaño Karpin Galicia
15 David Millar Garmin - Chipotle powered by H30
16 Rubén Plaza Sport Lisboa e Benfica
17 Manuel Beltrán Liquigas
18 Dani Moreno Caisse d'Epargne
19 Gustavo César Veloso Karpin Galicia
20 David García Dapena Karpin Galicia
Final GC
Managers thoughts
Sure enough, we manage to advance to 7th overall. We're happy with that when we think about the race and the conditions we had. Sanchez is gradually improving his fitness and should be able to compete for the Vuelta al Pais Vasco at the beginning of next month, which is one of our goals. |

Race schedule - April
Lots of nice races in April. the 4th and 5th will be used for fitness tuning for the Vuelta al Pais Vasco which we will be focusing a lot on this month. For you cobblefans there wont be a lot of action, it's simply not our terrain and we wont spend much time with those. We will do our best to keep Sanchez in shape for the Ardennes classics too. So this month we're covering 4 races.
Vuelta al Pais Vasco, Amstel Gold Race, La Fleche Wallkone and Liege - Bastogne - Liege.
In retrospect March was a good month. Our sponsors are absolutely exstatic with us after we won the Paris-Nice. They will be expecting more now! |

he said that earlier in his story!!!!
if you are reading the story you should have remembered no offense B)
i think top 5 in the tour is asking a little to much especially if astana are in it but on hard i will read it as most people do stories on normal and i find them boring as you can see them just putting the dot and 995 and riding away from the group not exactly hard |

It is asking a little much. But the sponsors told us to do it so we're gonna try it
The new bar-system has definately made mountainstages harder and you have to mind your energy much much more than in 07. |

Great riding, I think you will take Pais Vasco and do a podium in the Giro
I also love the fact that it seems like the prologues and sprints are going in a faster speed than in PCM 2007 |
