Im a bit confused with the tactics I set though. I set it to mark a player - it didnt. I chose a player to be my playmaker - it chose another. I set the defense staretgy to 4-3-3, p3druh played 4-3-3 but it didnt say I was prepared. I set one of my strikers to take penaltys - it chose another. 
Are you sure you clicked the "Save tactics" button?

For the last 2 matches I haven't had them set as default and they've been correct each week, so it doesn't have to be selected for them to work. But anything's worth trying
