Did you guys see the Henao vs Alaphillippe duel ? Fantastic, havent seen anyone attacking each other 5 times each that hard in a long time.
Duel of the year atm. imo
Alaphillippe this year reminds me of Jan Ullrich 1997 and Richard Virenque. Such high level in such a young age with explosiveness.
If anyone was around to witness Ullrich, Pantani and Virenque attacking each other.
Or to make a comparison to a current rider the likeness between him and Valverde is evident with that power.
PS. Looking forward to todays Giro stage lets hope for a chaotic race

Can't agree with you about Porte needing time on Contador before the TT, Porte is a better TT'r than him excluding 2014 because there clearly was something off about Porte last season. Don't get me wrong in that I acknowledge what Contador has done in the TT but he has to be right on top of his form to put time into Porte there.

Interesting break today in Betancur (ALM),, Tiralongo (AST), Colbrelli (BAR), Moinard (BMC), Elissonde (FDJ), Herrada (MOV), Hesjedal, Slagter (TCG), Geschke (TGA), Belkov (KAT), and Kruijswijk (TLJ).
Good to see Betancur and Kruijswijk on the attack again

I disagree with you.If it would have been a fully hilly TT I would have agreed with you but first 30 km of the TT are flat as pancake. And Contador's last good flat TT result is from 2011 in Giro and TdF(although TdF one was a bit hilly).Since his ban he only has done very good in hilly time trials. He never got onto his previous level on the flat TT's.And he was never superior on flat TTs either. He was between good and very good before his ban in flat TTs.Now he is between average and good in flat TTs. |

Looks only 30 riders left in the Peloton with the gap to the front of the race 10 riders only 2:22 so the pressure is on with 85 k's remaining

And now Cataldo has kicked off the front of the main group, that makes 2 up the road for Astana with Tiralongo in the break

But it's the same with Contador really. If they have the form than they are good stage race Time Trialists and can outperform better specialists. But Porte is not on Uran level imo and when it comes down to it, he can't rely on the Time Trial. He's very decent at Time Trials mind you but this makes him neither significantly better nor worse than Contador imo. To me, they are pretty much equal. And since Contador is most likely(!) the better climber in third week, he needs time to take time on Bertie ASAP if he wants to win Giro.
Cataldo, most interesting.

We can agree to disagree then because I say Porte owns Bertie now in a TT, Contador of old yes but he isn't that rider anymore

I think you underestimate Bertie's TT really much. Contador had major TT results last year for example. He came 2nd last year in Pais Vasco behind Martin, 2nd at Dauphine prologue behind Froome, fourth in Algarve (Kwiatek, martin, Malori) and fourth behind Martin, Uran and Cancellara at Vuelta. He even was close to Froome in Tour 2013 which was when he was in his worst shape ever.

That 2013 TDF TT he did finish 2nd to Froome 9 seconds down, 3rd in one was noted a TT'r in Purito who he beat by 1 second... Also in that race he was gapped by 2:15 by Froome in the Mont-Saint-Michel TT
Vuelta TT's are always strange, remember Pozzo got a high placing in one a few seasons ago. The other examples you gave were good performances indeed

Has anyone else seen the footage of Contador before he went onto the podium yesterday? He was fixing up his cap with both hands and no discomfort then gets onto the podium looking all sore and tender hmmmmm reminds me of the rubbish before last years Vuelta. Looks like Bertie is attempting to play mind games with his opposition again

Yes, but we talk about recent Time Trial results and these have been some of his recent ones.
Besides, the profile of the Giro TT. Notice the pattern.

Looks like the peloton have backed right off, just about to hit 6 minutes now to Slagter and the peloton starting to swell again. Smart by Garmin-Cannondale sending Slagter off the front of the break with Hesjedal sitting in the chasing group not having to chase

On whom he is supposed to lose a minute exactly? Uran Uran - yes. Porte, who looks even lighter than him - no.
