I must say, that I'm pretty impressed with Kashechkin taking those hilly stages as an opportunity to attack Eastman and gain valuable time for the second time now! To this point, I'm really enjoying this race, tbh.. some close battles behind the two dominating guys make for some interesting stuff, too.

Ben Dyball's coach - Great ride from my man today. Ben took the perfect opportunity to move up to 4th, awesome. There was never a doubt, this is likely to be a fight for this 4th place. Those three ahead are simply stronger. But Ben now has a good position, though he's also under pressure to defend it

The expected time loss for Txurruka. Hoped it would be a bit less but well, he has to attack now to get those minutes back!
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Still holding on to a Top 10 and Shimizu in the Top 15 is also good. Still would like a stage win or two from this race, or else its a bit of a waste.

Wow at Ewan. Already with a big win.
And shame about Eastman. Most horrible bad luck and losing that much time might also mean an injury unfortunately I guess.
Feel really sorry for Heineken.
Still 2nd at the moment, which would still be decent points at the moment.

Firstly an unexpected Caleb Ewan wins, and in a brilliantly exciting fashion. His first ever win and many more will follow i am sure!
Secondly i don't believe the bad luck for Eastman. But i would feel worse i he had dropped lower than second and Heineken weren't already high up in the rankings

Such an awful luck for Ryan Eastman. Gutted for Heineken.
And Ewan winning isn't good for us. We need to do someting in the remaning stages if we want to stay up. |

Not very often you can lose over 5 minutes on a stage and only drop from 1st to 2nd overall. Still, really bad luck for Eastman and Heineken.

So, we aren't the only team to get bad luck here. Still can't believe Nicacio is the only rider to abandon, though.
Well, that was our best stage yet, a good sign perhaps? Though there is no use in Manarelli finishing five times faster than everyone if he starts the sprint 500 meters behind. |

Pity it was Eastman who suffered and not a rider from a completely inactive team, like Kashechkin or Rohregger

That's a bummer. There are still stages that can be critical and allow Eastman to gain back time on that Kazakh. I'm very happy with the stage wins and an overall podium should give us enough points to ensure our America's tour standing. As far as meteorological accuracy, I lived along the route of stage 14 for 2 years. the roads are never slicky. It's a desert

The 'colour' brought to RCN radio broadcasts by 'expert' pundit Scorchio has been missing from RCN radio broadcasts over the past week of racing. Suggestions that he has been drunk almost 24/7 in the meantime and shacking up with one of the nubile podium girls are strongly denied, "Jeez man, she's half my age!".
In the meantime, the Colombian challenge has been led by veteran Rodas, who now occupies a top 5 GC position after consistent riding in the mountains and hills, and a decent showing in the long race of truth. Jairo Agudelo makes it two Colombians in the top 10, however he may be a little disappointed looking at the pedigree of some of the riders in front of him not to be further up the rankings - predicted as more or less a certainty for a top 5 overall on GC pre-race, this is now in question (although positions 4-11 remain quite tight). On the other hand, Agudelo has been able to celebrate a strong showing by his teammates across a number of stages which may have limited his GC options on a couple of occasions.
Definitely in the dog house is national champion Cayetano Sarmiento, now over half an hour down on GC and little to show from individual stages, much more has to be expected - it is nothing short of scandalous to see our great national champion jersey permanently hidden in the pack, only appearing when Sarmiento gets dropped (whenever the road goes up). Some of his younger teammates are producing good performances that may be distracting Boeing team management for now, but with contract talks looming, the suspicion is that Sarmiento may be shipped out to pastures new. With such an anonymous showing, a miracle defense at Nationals may be necessary to drum up any interest if he doesn't manage to pull his socks up and get himself a stage victory pronto.
With a name like Montenegro, you'd expect an Eastern European, but your correspondent is a little embarrassed to confess that he completely missed Colombian stalwart Fabio Montenegro on the start sheet, and it was over a week into the race before he accosted me in the depart village to point this out. Nonetheless, Fabio has been having a steady outing, currently occupying 15th overall in GC. Many would suggest that Montenegro and Sarmiento have very similar talents - the difference in their GC showing reflects the attitude on show.
Finally we turn to the overall picture of the race - Domination by Kashechkin and Eastman has swung in the Kazahs favour after Eastman hit the desk early in todays' stage. Surprisingly given the nature of the course, and limited pressure put on in the bunch, Eastman never made it back to the peloton; many suspect that he is more banged up than the Heinelen team press-release has indicated to date. This reporter can exclusively confirm that Eastman is to undergo x-rays this evening to properly assess the damage. The hone fans are definitely behind him, but it remains to be seen whether he can make a miracle recovery to challenge for victory. More importantly, will he even be able to continue??
Stay tuned to find out, hiccup!
