Great timing from Majka.

Vakoc should be 1 sec before Majka. Lost 26 sec +10 sec bonus to Majka and he had 37 sec advantage. |

Formolo again having a good race, great season for him.
Sanchez 6th, he seems to be getting in form for Vuelta, maybe he will get a stage win there.

Well played Poland, you sure know how to pull the bait and switch on even your own people.

Stupid Garmin. Ryder was obviously feeling strong. Why the hell would you just pace everyone for 2 km. Goddamn.
I was about to write the same. Also that stupid tactic to go all in for penultimate climb and leave Ryder alone in the group of 60 or 70 riders with some flat terrain to go. Fairly then came back on the descent, but if Ryder needed his team-mate around the peak of penultimate climb, he would have none.
I guess Hesjedal knew there was no option to solo it for anybody on that gradient, so he wanted to keep the pace high and drop as many riders as possible (especially some good TT-ers) out of contention for the next stages. But doing so much work on so low gradient was asking for problems, he was nearly dropped himself when others accelerated on last kilometer. Not to mention he is a quickish guy as for climber, so he stood a good chance of scoring some time bonus, maybe even a stage win at the finish on a stage like this. Every success would be welcome at Garmin after having a season full of disappointment and heading for by far the worst finish in UCI Team's Classification in the team's history.
Good to see he isn't nowhere with his form before the Vuelta, though. He certainly looks better now than he looked few weeks before Giro. Maybe he just trained hard before the Vuelta today, that's why he preffered to keep pushing himself instead of stopping and seeing how everyone slows down. |

Now everybody realize who Rafal Majka is. Can you believe Bjarne Riis picked him out of nowhere back in 2011. And the guy is double Tour stage winner and Maillot à pois. And he smashes this one home at home..
Absolutely masterclass job by Riis... |

Boy has quite some acceleration in his legs. Dangerous. Nice victory for him, winning on home turf. Also a good result for the Movistar basques.

He attacked early on the last climb, so understandable that he lacked power later in the finish.

Time for the queen stage:
Bukowina - Zakopane Round - 174 km

This not a classical mountain stage - rather a super punchy round with 12 short but steep and narrow climbs adding up to around 4000 metres of uphill road. Each of the climbs is taken 4 times starting from Ząb:

through Gliczarów

and the final climb to Terma Bukovina

This as always should be a race of endurance with either some crazy stuff happening on the steepest sections or just a pure highpower grind in order to drop those, who will have moments of suffering.
Majka is going to be under great pressure today and Movistar looks to have a lot of options to spoil the fun for him.
PS. I know Gliczarów may not look that impressive, but the steepest kilometre (13,5% with 23% max) is in my opinion as demanding as the most famous walls in the Ardennes.

Paterski once again in the attack for KoM - won the first climb to Ząb. Meier and Caruso escaping with him. |

Vuillermoz, Lagutin and Formolo joined the break too. That's quite a strong group, if the peleton doesn't chase too hard they have good chances of winning the stage.

20 km to go, Majka gives orders to his teammates on the downhill before Gliczarów. Boy, he looks confident.

Eh, pales in comparison to the cow incident.
Going to be fun when they hit the "wall" in the finale.
