It's funny. Nibali wins the stage after a great attack.
People are calling him stupid: celebrating could've cost you yellow!
People are calling him stupid: you take yellow on stage 2.
Yeah, Nibali is real stupid, either way. Winning a Tour stage is just stupid
Yeah it puzzles me aswell, he just won a cracking TDF stage with a perfectly timed attack, he ended up with yellow but I doubt him and Astana would be that worried about having yellow just yet anyway and will most likely let it fall to a breakaway in the next few stages.
I do wonder sometimes if people think before they comment
Getting the yellow at TdF is not something you get everyday even if youre a GC contender and you get in very early is definitely something you would want so you should push all the way to get every second you can. He couldve binned all that great effort and make himself look like an idiot if GVA Zabel'd him.
Yeah but GVA didn't get him and he had 2 seconds to spare on the line, he looked and knew he wasn't going to get caught. It is stage 2 and what if he kept pushing he would of gained maybe another 2 or 3 seconds? He did what he had to do and I am sure Astana don't want to try and defend a yellow jersey for 19 stages.

Whatcha mean? Really nobody on this forum said that Nibali wasted energy.
Maybe not directly, but some of the guys definitely meant it. If someone call an attack like this "stupid", what do you think it's supposed to mean?

I'm not saying willingly, but it's not a mountain stages. It was ardennes at its best, with narrow roads and short climbs. It's easy to lose your teammates in the crowded battle for positioning. Doesn't necessarily say something about the quality of his climbing squad.

If Nibali goes, Sagan can't be the one to chase if wants to win the stage. He should rely on the other GC contenders to chase him. Unlucky Froome was too busy looking at his stem after he just chased Fuglsang.
All he freaking needed to do is make it a bunch sprint, It didnt even matter if he won the stage. Bunch sprint = yellow jersey.
Sagan isn't the kind of rider to think like that. He wants to win, every time.
One of the reasons I love that guy!
So he lost both.
Yellow jersey is better than a stage win anyway
It's always easy to say that afterwards. What if someone did chase Nibali and he won the stage? You can't know that in advantage... It's a gamble. It's not about being stupid, it's about taking risks. If he chases himself, he loses the race 100%. If he doesn't chase, he has a shot.
What do you mean if he does chase he loses the race. If he chases he has a guaranteed yellow jersey. Theres no risk. He might not get yellow jersey ever again. Look at Cav or many more great riders.

Completely agree. Sagan doesnt have a crystalball or something like that and to state something like that Kirchen does is just silly. Sagan wanted to win AND the jersey - he didnt get either, but thats the gamble you sometimes gonna make. If anything i wouldnt blame it on Sagan, but rather Cannondale which SHOULD be a team bbuild around Sagan to control exactly those kinda stages, but in the real final, they always disappear.
Crazy amazing race today, this is what makes a fantastic race. Great racing today, action through the entire stage. God or someone has blessed this race so far.
Down to the stage:
Good to see Kadri showing decent shape throwing Voeckler off.
Peraud and Bardet also did well, Bardet even tried an attack at the end.
Looking promising for AG2R so far.
To the Saxo-Tinkoff case. People make it sound like you need all 8 riders to protect the captain in the finals. Really? Roche and Rogers were with Contador until the last climb. I don't see any problem? Well maybe except for Jesus - he didn't show that much today. Let's hope he progresses with his form. If Contador can't manage the last climb + final kilometers by himself he isn't worthy of being a captain. I think he did well, showing a bit off. Overall I was really satisfied with Saxo-Tinkoff today.
3 Danes, and 1 attacking like crazy. Really enjoyed seeing Jakob attack, and he almost got away. Bad for him Froome closed the first gap, and Van Avermaet following him. Nibbles won the stage with a powerful attack and showing he is where he needs to be to put up a good fight later on. If you can take the yellow and a stage win, then why not? It's not like they will protect it at all cost. Love that Nibbles is answering Vino's criticsm.
Kwiatkowski pulled an ace up his hat today, didn't see that coming. Thought his shape was far worse, well let's see if he can keep it up, when we hit the big mountains.
It's amazing to see so many fans along the roads. But they have been standing a bit too close to the roads, especially on the hills. Riders can barely manage to get through, and it makes it hard to attack. I even saw a guy clapping / hitting Geraint Thomas on the arm - this is not okay. Too many people risk too much, to get a photo or touch the riders....
Present:
Tinkoff-Saxo - AG2R - Colombian riders
Past:
Francisco Mancebo - Illes balears - Carlos Sastre - Kelme - Robbie McEwen

Yes, but once again, Sagan is a winner. He wants to win the stage. If he wins that, he gets yellow, too. Instead of a "certain" yellow, he gambled on a stage win and yellow.
That's just part of the sport. If someone had chased and he had won the sprint & yellow, that would've been legendary for him. But you don't know that in advance.
Only thing that really bothered me at the end was Bernabino/LeMond going on and on (and even pestering Degenkolb by asking) about how it was 'surprising' that Giant didn't have any of their riders drop back with Kittel in order to limit his time loss - pretending like it makes any difference to him.

Bernabino is very annoying, hes so pretentious you get the sense that he is the star/expert and Le Mond is the host.

Nope, nobody said directly or indirectly that Nibali wasted energy. One guy said it's stupid because Astana have to work now, which may be correct looking at the long road ahead of the team. Alas, that's cycling and I'm sure Astana & Vino are glad to have this burden.
(If you mean SSJ2Luigi comment, he referred to Nibali losing his gap on the last meters, which would have been pretty stupid indeed)
@Pellizotti2: Yeah, LeMond Bernabino, it's not really working out. Besides, I'd prefer it if they just show some highlight clips and the ceremony. Eurosport are rather awkward when it comes to presenting stuff, like interviews and such.

He was dropped, 1 minute and something down. Some candidates for the top-10 (König, Frank, Frank Schleck, Rolland, Horner) was in the second group 16 down on Nibali.

I think Nibali will lose the jersey on stage 5 since Sagan is two seconds and Sagan is a great cobbles rider so yeah.............
Or maybe GVA.
It would be nice to see GVA win a big stage like that, such a consistent rider in the classics but always finds one better than him on the day.
