sutty68 - Thanks! Yeah, Henry keeps doing well for some reason
admirschleck - I agree! I never thought this in advance but now I'm actually hoping for the Continental League win
krisa - He's a scouted player.
welker3257 - Sure was!
duxili - Competition was a bit less, but still pretty strong, though I really wanted to get 1st place in CQ, but then Paris - Nice and Tirreno were finished so a lot of guys earned a lot of points
My first race in Italy, really looking forward to that!
GP Camaiora
That's quite a hill. A tough profile here. Time to crack some nuts!
The Race
Moser opened the race by one hell of an attack! Nobody could follow.
I sat around and did nothing at first, but in the last round, I took a gamble. You never win if you don't try, that's what mom always said.
Oh man, I was just dying. The top of the hill was just around the corner, though. Luckily the peloton was just breaking up, I was able to hang onto a group and catch my breath in the descent.
Wegmann was the strongest of the day. He sprinted to a victory. I recuperated a little bit and was able to sprint to a nice 7th place. I love Italy.

Analysis & Daily Thoughts
Any top 10 place makes me happy, so I'm walking around with a big smile lately. Can't wait to race the Strade Bianchi, one of the most beautiful races on the calendar!
Strade Bianchi. A magical race. The most beautiful decor to have an epic race in. Also my final (proper) race before Milan - San Remo.
Strade Bianchi
Never before has a race earned a name so quickly as Strade Bianchi. Already called a classic, this race is actually brand new. The beautiful roads of Toscane form the decor for this one day race.
I woke up with strong legs and they got even stronger when I pulled the Europe Continental jersey over my head. Ready to roll!
Plan of the Day: The final 2 kilometers are quite uphill and very tough. Today I will not attack, but I will put everything on my uphill sprint. The plan is to just float along and try to finish it off in the final kilometer!
The Race
Belgian team mate Baugnies decided to inspect the roads from the breakaway today. He stayed away for quite a while and that gave us all some breathing space.
I must admit I've never enjoyed a race so much as today. The view was just... mind blowing. I actually almost crashed my bike because I was looking around too much, but no harm was done.
As expected, attacks followed as soon as the break was caught. I tried to get into the slipstream as much as possible, saving energy for the final sprint.
The first place was already gone with a well placed attack, so me and some Russian guy were sprinting for place 2!
Langeveld proved his talent by keeping ahead of our chasing group for almost 8 kilometers. I'd say this victory is well deserved!
Is tiredness making way through my system? I lose the two-man sprint and finish just on the podium. My legs felt heavier than ever.
Crossing the finish line, I grabbed for anything I could eat. I've never had so much hunger in my entire life. But in the end, I made it up to the podium, and we all had a good time.

Analysis & Daily Thoughts
Maybe I've been pushing myself a bit too much lately. But now's not the time to slow down, we've got big races coming up! In about a week or two, I'll be starting in my first World Tour race. Not just any World Tour race, but Milan - San Remo! I'd better go and charge my batteries, right?
For those who will come see the race:
I guess I'll see you there, make sure to cheer for me if you see me passing, and let's hope it's 10 minutes before the peloton arrives!
Strong showing by Langeveld but quite a nice sprint. Holding up against riders such as freaking Froome, Moser, Gatto and Albasini is quite noteworthy. Gusev is experienced, no shame in losing such a sprint to him. With a Top 10 and a 3rd place, Italy seems to suit you just as much as France.
Good luck for MSR. Toscana might look nice, but Cipressa and Poggio di Sanremo are true beauties.
Edited by Shonak on 13-12-2013 20:10
"It’s a little bit scary when Contador attacks." - Tommy V
Shonak - Langeveld was out of reach with his perfectly timed attack! Moser and Albasini were pretty tired from several failed attacks, luckily Only Gusev was strong enough to resist Henry in the sprint, which is good.
Italy is a great cycling country, I'd love to come again with Henry. M-SR first
duxili - Well... You might be right however, his first two victories both had some luck to it. Now that the riders know him, it's not that easy anymore. With his current stats (73 hill), I'm happy with a 3rd place here. But I'll be more ambitious, a bit
Dippofix - Thanks! Great country and he certainly seems to enjoy it.
sutty68 - A podium among these guys is very noteworthy for a 21 year old, thank you
So, not only is my internship over Wednesday/Thursday, I actually have 2 weeks vacation from work, too, come next Saturday. Then I only have to study instead of study + work + internship. Hope to put in some nice PCM hours in those two weeks
I've been dropping places in the CQ Ranking drastically lately. All that has to do with the two WT races Paris - Nice and Tirreno Adriatico. And then there was Milan - San Remo!
Paris - Nice & Tirreno - Adriatico
Paris - Nice was a true thriller until the very end. Thomas Voeckler lead the classification just until the final time trial, where Rui Costa squashed everyone's time completely and took the overall victory. Rodriguez completed the podium.
Tirreno - Adriatico was less exciting, but a spectacle nonetheless. Cavendish ruled the sprints, Nibali the mountains. Quintana finished on nearly a minute and Valverde was more than three minutes behind.
Milano - San Remo
It's the longest race of the calendar. I've only had two training sessions in my life where I crossed the 300 kilometer, and they were pretty tough. My first World Tour race, so I'm terribly excited, though!
The Race
We were off to a great start when Warren (Barguil) went into the breakaway. He was in for a long work day!
I decided I didn't stand much of a chance here, so I fulfilled my duty as a team mate, keeping Zabel at the front on the Cipressa.
Unfortunately, our age was against the both of us. He cracked on the Poggio. I had a tough time but I could still be of use for Pinotti, so I hung on!
It's no secret Gilbert has had this race on his wishlist for ever. Maybe today he could make his dream come true? Unfortunately for him, he was alone agains the whole pack...
I lead out Pinotti, but this was all in the background, for a distant honorary place. At the front, against all bookmakers' odds, it was Nizzolo who used Boonen as a wind catcher and jumped over him and Gilbert in the final 50 meters. A life changing victory for the Italian!
I finished an obscure 37th place. As expected, the 300 kilometers were way too much for me.

Analysis & Daily Thoughts
I didn't expect more today. I finished the race in the same time as the winner, which was about the best I could hope for. It's been a great training and I'll feel it in the morning.
My first real goal of the season is coming nearer, only one week left. Then I'll participate in the Critérium International.
Criterium International should suit it more than MSR, which surely was worth all an experience worth. Your first WT race and you finished with all the big boys.
"It’s a little bit scary when Contador attacks." - Tommy V
duxili - I'm with you on that! Hope to get another great result in Criterium International
Shonak - Indeed, that was the main thing! It was a good experience. But Crit. Int. will be about more than experience. The startlist is quite doable, with Coppel the biggest favorite.
2 stages of Crit. Int. are finished now. Tomorrow is the third and final stage, finishing on a mountain slope!
Critérium International - Stages 1 & 2
Two days that will only shape the GC a little bit before the final stage, which takes place in the mountains. The time trial is not long enough to cause any serious gaps, thankfully. The opening stage is very short so it'll go extremely fast.
The time trial is not like the ones I've done before. It's much shorter, which suits my explosive abilities, and there's a lot of turning, which is also good for me, being able to use my acceleration.
Day 1
Seems I was spot on with my observations. The pace was incredibly high. But we had no problem hanging on.
The teams were getting ready for the sprint. I would be helping Zabel in the lead-out.
Belletti squeezed out a nice win, being a little bit faster than the rest of us. I finish a surprising 4th, thanks to the lack of real sprinters here.
Day 2
Pinotti set the first real strong time. At the end of the day, nobody would even come near it! Another win for our Italian leader!
And then I was off. Time trialing is a lot about the mental. So I prepared myself for this day. I told myself I'd ride the best time trial ever. I believed in myself.
I was off to a flying start. The time trial was just below 8 kilometers, so there was no time to grow into the rhythm. You needed to be in it right away. Luckily, I was!
I rode my best time trial ever and finished 14th, great! Coppel, the biggest threat for tomorrow, is only 20 seconds away, that might be doable!

Analysis & Daily Thoughts
We came here with a strong squad and we've got a lot of strong climbers close to the GC, which is just great. Pinotti is even in the lead, but his ambition here was solely the time trial. The finish on the mountain slope will prove too great a difficulty for the Italian puncher/time trialist. With Manresa, Barguil and myself, we have a nice threesome to attack the other favorites!
Some fan recently told me to be more ambitious. Well, I will listen to that fan. Tomorrow I will try to win the Critérium International. It's been the weakest start field since forever, and I plan to take advantage of that!
Until tomorrow, hopefully on the highest place on the podium,
Henry
Pinotti continues showing his greatness, and a nice 3-4 on the opening stage. And Coppel is indeed still close by. Let's hope for something good tomorrow!
Great race by Henry, he only lost 21 seconds in the time trial. That shows in what a form he is and how much he has already improved in time trial. Vergnaud, Manresa & Barguil sounds like a great trio for the last stage. The overall victory for either of the guys is in reach.
EDIT: oh, and great win by Pinotti!
Edited by Shonak on 15-12-2013 14:14
"It’s a little bit scary when Contador attacks." - Tommy V
Dippofix - Hope so, too! Thanks Pinotti not even close to wanting to stop cycling, it seems!
Shonak - If we can use our strength in depth I'm sure one of our team mates can make the most of it!
Pinotti continues to score victories left and right
sutty68 - Sure is, now he should make something of it in the mountains!
[img][/img] It is great to see Henry has established himself as one of the most important riders on the team already, still I doubt he can break the top 15 at Milan San Remo, but you never know?......
