T.O.T.C 2 Never Too Old: THE END (Post 218)
mvhoogdalem
Finally Evans wins. It seems like Sanchez is getting tired. Wink

knockout
This tour is going really good for me:
- still 42nd in GC with Gustov which is an excellent position to achieve the Top 3 I wanted in the beginning.
- 27th in the TT is incredible good for a team which won the opening TTT
- I have still 7 riders in the race. Only Michele Scarponi and David Millar abandoned till now... At least they achieved so many big points due to their good positions in the mountains.

Could have come worst

But I don't know how Pfft

A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Feeling sorry for you, Scarponi could've posed a challenge with his 81 MO. And in all honesty, Sammy really deserves a one minute time penalty for those shoes he's wearing Rolling Eyes
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

STAGE 13: Santiago de Compostela - Ferrol 173 KM

Today we have a lumpy stage yet one which may end in a mass sprint. One thing is for sure, the hilly sprinters will have the upper hand on the pure sprinters.

i874.photobucket.com/albums/ab304/therider92/1_zps44e6f271.jpg

Today a 3 man break gets away. The perennial escapees are: Day (Mercier); Rice (France Sport) and Poos (Tebag).

i874.photobucket.com/albums/ab304/therider92/2_zps6850665f.jpg

The camera gets a shot of Rebellin (Carpano). No doubt the Italian would have expected better form in this race. With 90 kilometres to go the break achieve a zenith of 7'20 before Cilo, Faema and Garin close down the gap.

i874.photobucket.com/albums/ab304/therider92/3_zpsf870394c.jpg

An attack!

With 20 kilometres to go and the break well in control @ 1:00 Engoulvent (Helyett) and Sorensen (Stella) attack. The Dane quickly makes his way to the break whilst it takes longer and more effort for the Frenchman to bridge across.

i874.photobucket.com/albums/ab304/therider92/4_zps752b404b.jpg

Sorensen drops Rice as the break pull out more seconds with 12 kilometres to go (1:20 over the peloton). The last climb of the day is reached and Sorensen puts the hammer down... Day.... then.... Engoulvent...... then finally Poos is dropped.

i874.photobucket.com/albums/ab304/therider92/5_zps6dd6d5ca.jpg

With 10 kilometres to go Sorensen looks really strong as he still has 1:20 over the peloton..... Domestiques: Pellizotti; Peraud; O'Grady; Muravyev and Pinotti are trying but can't make in roads on the Dane.

i874.photobucket.com/albums/ab304/therider92/6_zps1292e7e0.jpg

Sorensen solos to victory. Another late attack proving fruitful for the attacker in this tour of the chosen. A well deserved win for Stella and the Great Dane.

i874.photobucket.com/albums/ab304/therider92/7_zpscaaf5fff.jpg

Faema pack the top 15 with riders as once again Hushovd proves he is the fastest when it comes to the sprint and has to settle for second again whilst, showing some great acceleration, Petacchi rounds off the podium for Garin.

And Hushovd finishes second again. Angry But it's great that a lot of riders from me are in the top-15. Grin

sutty68
Another decent finish from Greg, lets hope he can get a win soon Smile

Dippofix
Hmm, at least Rebellin got a mention, but we're massively underperforming, even taking to account that we're one of the weaker teams. Frown

Ian Butler
Yes! Banana I won!

Spoiler
I know I didn't win, but it doesn't look like my team will do anything major and I want to have my fun Pfft

Well done by Nicki!

And I have to say I'm really surprised that my team is 3rd in the rankings at this point. Only 1 stage without scoring points Grin

And I have to say I'm really surprised that my team is 3rd in the rankings at this point. Only 1 stage without scoring points Grin

Consistency is the key. Grin

Because of the one rider domination in this Vuelta I am thinking about a new TOTC to really mix things up. Where the AVG limit will be 70 and there will be about 4/5 cobbled stages (maybe a Gent Wevelgem) mixed in with the 21 stages of a GT. Any opinions on this?

I had a similar plan that's on hold because of EPIC, could be fun!
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Could be fun. You could also just use 21 stages from different races. Wink

Thanks guys we should continue this conversation in the PCM story thread. Wink

Nooooo, don't steal my idea, hang on, meh, feel free, with my ideas it'd take a year to start anyway.
Also, wuhhhhhjh, I won something, this must be a scam... Hmmm, I still don't believe you Rolling Eyes nicely done from Sorensen, my team actually wins something, good, as we've been near top for a while without doing anything major,

There should be a Story Game Discussion Thread down here in the basement. Although the one-man domination could be seen a mile away and just arose out of the age restriction taking out almost all big GC riders. Even at a base level only Evans and Scarponi should really challenge Sanchez, but add in the coach bonus and it's done deal for Samu.

And the next TOTC kind of has to be based around the Giro...

Wow! This has gone quickly. Really happy with Leukemans, Lastras and Chavanel. Also my namesake Palumbo getting in a lot of breaks.

STAGE 14: Palas de rei - Puerto de Ancares 142 KM

The first of four consecutive mountain top finishes. With a lumpy profile a break may succeed but will need a good gap as the last climb is 12 kilometres @ 7%.

i874.photobucket.com/albums/ab304/therider92/1_zpsf3503c77.jpg

As Aer Lingus set the early pace 8 men get away they are: Grabsch, Parra, Vogondy, A Jacques Maynes, McCann, Cooke, G Rodriguez and T Johnson.

i874.photobucket.com/albums/ab304/therider92/2_zpse4d69f32.jpg

With 78 kilometres to go and the gap to the break @ 6:20 Liberia and Standard Chartered up the pace with the lies of Baliani and Gutierrez reducing the gap.

With 60 kilometres to go the break has finally grown to 14 riders as 6 men: Grajales, Muraglia, Tuft, Hammond, Escober and Calcagni bridge across.

i874.photobucket.com/albums/ab304/therider92/3_zpsbfa624e8.jpg

With 12 kilometres to go the final climb starts and the break is caught. Sami Sanchez takes advantage of the hesitation in the peloton before Charteau and Tankink come to the front to up the pace.....but is it too late.... Sami Sanchez is already a mile up the road..... that is all folks.

i874.photobucket.com/albums/ab304/therider92/4_zps3482007d.jpg

Now the battle for second. Zubeldia and Horner are the first to attack before being brought back by the other favourites with 8 kilometres to go.

i874.photobucket.com/albums/ab304/therider92/5_zpsc7a848fe.jpg

With 6 kilometres to go Evans puts in a big attack and Zubeldia is the only one to chase... where is Voeckler?....

i874.photobucket.com/albums/ab304/therider92/6_zpsf54ffc95.jpg

He is behind being forced to do all the chasing for the likes of Danielson, Kloden and Pellizotti (who fell earlier in the stage), Evans and Zubeldia now well up the road. The road is running out as Basso attacks the group... Voeckler can't respond....

i874.photobucket.com/albums/ab304/therider92/7_zpse0188621.jpg

Sami takes win no.5, poor tactics by Liberia and Standard Chartered contribute majorly to his win. Evans finishes well ahead of Voeckler and looks to have secured second place with Zubeldia inching up the standings with an eye for 3rd spot.
